Outrigger Three Sided Sail
Details
An Outrigger Sail is a lightweight demountable fabric structure. It is typically curved on the edges and may be made to almost any shape, size, and colour. An Outrigger sail can be manufactured from acrylic canvas, Ferrari 502 pvc, or Outlook woven pvc coated mesh.
Outrigger Awnings is an Australian Company, and all awnings are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Australia using the best available fabrics and materials

TRI-RADIAL CUT SAIL AWNINGSTANDARD CUT SAIL AWNINGA tri-radial cut sail typically dividesa four sided sail into 16 triangularpanels, and a three sided sail into12 triangular panels. A tri-radialcut-out pattern aligns the fabricthread lines with the appliedtension to maximise strength andminimise stretch and distortion. Itallows complete flexibility withregard to awning shape and edgecurvature, and minimises theappearance of ripples. Additionallya tri-radial cut sail requires lesspre-tension as it relies on the fabriccut to evenly apply tension loadaccross the sail.
A standard cut sail is generallymanufactured from two to threeequal size fabric panels. It is asimpler construction, and istherefore cheaper to manufacturethan a tri-radial cut sail. There arehowever limitations to the possibleshapes and a higher degree ofedge curvature is required.

THREE SIDED SAILS
Outrigger Sail Instructions
Set up Instructions
Unravel awning and orientate with poles. For light coloured awnings it is a good idea to place the awning on a drop sheet
Carefully connect awning to poles but do not apply tension. Try not to drag the awning across the ground.Connect awning to house. If there are more than two house fittings connect to centre fitting/s first. If there is a house
tension fitting on one corner apply a half tension load.Tension up corner poles and lock in position using vee-jam. The awning at this stage should have the diagonals roughly
aligned. This may require a minor adjustment at each corner. If your awning has middle poles tension these up now. A correctly set awning has a neat ripple free appearance.Always re-tension awning one week after set-up
Take down Instructions
Release tension at the poles, but do not disconnect
Disconnect awning from house. If there are more than two house fittings disconnect the centre fitting/s last. If there is a house tension fitting on one corner, release tension and disconnect first.
Disconnect awning from all but one pole and roll up towards remaining connected pole.Disconnect awning from remaining pole.
Additional NotesThe procedure for awnings with less than two poles is similar except additional house tension fittings are used instead of poles.
Awning Care Instructions
An Outrigger sail is not designed to withstand severe gale force conditions and should be taken down when winds in excess of 140 kmh are forecast
Acrylic canvas, pvc, and Outlook pvc coated yarn are extremely durable fabrics that should give a life in excess of 10 years. For lighter coloured awnings, both fabrics should be hosed and lightly brushed twice a year to remove dust, leaf, and bird stains. For darker colours once a year is adequate. Stubborn stains can be removed with a light detergent. Oil stains can be removed with Dry Cleaning Fluid.
Over time, repeated cleaning of acrylic canvas may affect the surface coating and a water proofing compound should be applied to maintain the waterproof properties.
When tensioning your sail always apply sufficient force to ensure the fabric does not rest or come into contact with any part of the house or building as it will abrade the fabric.
