LINDA NASR, Assistant Professor of Marketing, received the “BEST SERVICE CONSUMER PAPER” award for her paper “Bring me sunshine: Developing a deeper understanding of positive customer feedback.” e paper was published in the Journal of Services Marketing. Dr. Nasr also has been invited to serve on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Service Management as well as e Service Industries Journal. 19. e DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING and the ACCOUNTING CLUB hosted four “Firm Showcase” events during spring 2017. A total of 24 accounting firms participated in the events with an average of 100 students and four to ten firms attending each showcase. 20. e Texas State chapter of the ASSOCIATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONALS (AITP) and the Department of Computer Information Systems & Quantitative Methods hosted 400 students representing 20 high schools at the 2016 High School Symposium in October. MR. KEN PIERCE, Vice- President of Information Technology at Texas State, presented the keynote address. Chapter members attended the 2017 AITP National Collegiate Conference. Out of 58 universities represented, Texas State was awarded the Best Chapter Overall and second and third places and honorable mention in Mobile Application Development, second place in Network Design Competition and honorable mention in Security as well as Microsoft Office Solutions contests. MR. KEVIN JETTON and DR. DAVID WIERSCHEM, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems, respectively, are the AITP faculty advisors. 21. McCoy College business majors JOEY BOCHAT and KYLE MANUEL placed third in the TEXAS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO SYMPOSIUM (TIPS). e team made an oral presentation to a panel of industry experts on the management of the Student Managed Investment Fund. DRS. KEN MOON and HOL TOLES, Associate Professor and Senior Lecturer of Finance, respectively, coached the team. 22. In summer 2017, DR. TODD JEWELL, Professor and Chair of the Department of Finance and Economics, was a Scholar in Residence at the University of Castile-La Mancha in Ciudad Real, Spain. Jewell also presented the keynote address, “e Economics of Major League Soccer,” at the Spanish Sports Economics Conference. 23. Students in the Texas State chapter of NET IMPACT, competed in the Healthy Choices Challenge Initiative sponsored by Unilever Food Solutions. e team comprised of NIKITA DEMIDOV, JOSEPH FISCHER and TAYLER WALTER were selected to present their business model to a panel of judges at the Unilever headquarters in January 2017. Net Impact placed first in the popular vote and second overall. e team’s award-winning video was featured at the United Nations 10th anniversary meeting on the Global Compact in July 2017. DR. JANET HALE, Senior Lecturer of Business Law, is the faculty advisor. 24. e first FULL-TIME MBA COHORT completed the program and 15 students graduated in spring 2017. Twelve Cohort students completed a study abroad trip to LIMA, PERU and an international field project for SAFETY VISION. 12. In FY17, the Texas State SMALL BUSINESS

DEVELOPMENT CENTER (SBDC) served 463 clients; provided 3,672 hours of client assistance; and presented 47 professional business seminars, workshops and conferences. It helped create 396 jobs and save 503 jobs through 28 business startups and 49 business expansions. The center provided training for more than 1,472 participants and facilitated more than $59.3 million of capital infusion to qualified businesses.

(AAUW) SELECTED PROFESSIONS

FELLOWSHIP that supports women in fields of study where they traditionally have been underrepresented. Only 24 awards are given nationally each year and Landgrebe’s award marks the first time a Texas State graduate student has received a Selected Professions Fellowship.

1. We continue to support the mission of AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business to foster engagement, accelerate innovation, and amplify impact in business education. After a review team visit in fall 2016, our accreditation was extended making us one of 785 business schools and 180 accounting programs worldwide to hold AACSB accreditation.

2. The Texas State AMERICAN MARKETING

ASSOCIATION (AMA) chapter team of CARTER KALMBACH, NATHAN LOFTUS,

MATTHEW MAZUR and SHELBY PAYNE was awarded first place in the 2017 AMA Collegiate Case Competition at the International AMA Collegiate Conference. This is the eleventh year that the chapter has advanced to the finalist round. DR. GAIL ZANK, Professor of Marketing, is the faculty advisor for the case competition team.

3. The Texas State chapter of BETA GAMMA

SIGMA (BGS), the honor society for AACSB accredited schools of business, inducted 189 students in two ceremonies in 2016-2017. MR. BRIAN WONG, CPA, Southwest Tax & Financial Planning, Ltd., Hong Kong; DR. CYNTHIA OPHEIM, former Associate Provost at Texas State; MR. MATT

EDGAR, Principal, Sawtooth Capital Management, Inc.; MS. JODI EDGAR,

Controller, Basintek, LLC.; and DR.

DEBBIE THORNE, Associate Provost at Texas State, were recognized as chapter honorees. Texas State also was recognized for Highest Honors Chapter status for its engagement and activities. Chapter officers CHELSEY CALDWELL and ANDREW HILL participated in the annual Global Leadership Summit held in Dallas, TX.

4. DR. LI FENG, Associate Professor of Economics, served as a Visiting Fellow in the Brown Center on Education Policy

THE McCOY COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

ADMINISTRATION fosters an engaged learning community that prepares a diverse student population for successful business careers as responsible global citizens. The College complements these efforts with research that adds to knowledge, provides solutions to business challenges, and contributes to pedagogical advances. The College offers undergraduate majors in accounting, computer information systems, economics, finance, management, and marketing. At the graduate level, degree programs include the master of business administration, master of accountancy, master of science in accounting and information technology, and master of science in human resource management. The following 25 points of pride reflect a sample of our accomplishments in the 2016-2017 academic year and our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, and advancing knowledge to improve business practices.

5. McCoy College continues to partner with the business community to offer INTERNSHIP opportunities for students. The total number of internships in the college for 2016-2017 was 361 with 291 undergraduate and 70 graduate students participating. Three students completed GLOBAL INTERNSHIPS – two professional sales students with UPS in Barcelona, Spain, and an accounting student with KPMG, LLP in Paris, France.

6. The HISPANIC BUSINESS STUDENT

ASSOCIATION (HBSA) was awarded “Professional Organization of the Year” and the NET IMPACT Student Chapter was awarded “Registered Student Organization of the Year” and “Program of the Year” at the 2017 TEXAS STATE BOKO

AWARDS ceremony.

8. The Texas State AMERICAN ADVERTISING

FEDERATION team placed third in the National Student Advertising Conference (NSAC) for District 10. The NSAC Case challenge was for TaiPei. Additionally, the team won the Special Judges Award for Best Media Plan. DR. RICK WILSON, Associate Professor of Marketing and MS.

JENNY BUSCHHORN, lecturer, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, are co-advisors.

9. The 2017 BUSINESS LEADERSHIP WEEK focused on the theme Inspired Leadership, Overcoming Conflict. Over 3,500 students participated in events that included keynote speaker MR. JONATHAN SILK, Executive Director of Leadership Development, University of North Texas Health Science Center; distinguished speaker MR. JEFF HAYNES, Colonel, USMC (retired); and an Executive Leadership Panel with MR. REY ARRELLANO, Assistant City Manager, City of Austin; MR. KOY

MCDERMOTT, Leaders Inspire Leaders, LLC; and MS. AMBERLY RUSSELL, Fundraising and Development Consultant, Boys and Girls Clubs of South Central Texas. The week also included a mini-case competition sponsored by Bloomberg Businessweek, and an interactive fair sponsored by JCPenney and SEPHORA Inside JCPenney.

10. Finance major and member of the golf team, DAVID GODINEZ, is the male recipient of the 2017 TEXAS STATE OUTSTANDING

SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARD. Recipients must have completed one full year at Texas State, be a letter winner of junior or senior status and maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA.

11. DR. K. MICHELE KACMAR, the Jerry D. and Linda Gregg Fields Chair in Ethics and Corporate Responsibility, is the 2017 recipient of the PHD TRAILBLAZER AWARD, in recognition for mentoring and serving as a role model to doctoral students of color pursuing a degree in management. Dr.

14. MS. DIANE EURE, Senior Lecturer of Accounting, was awarded the 2016

OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTING

EDUCATOR by the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA). The award honors Texans who have demonstrated excellence in teaching and who have distinguished themselves through active service to the accounting profession.

15. THE CENTER FOR

ENTREPRENEURIAL ACTION (CEA)

hosted a 3-Day Startup (3DS) program in fall 2016. Approximately 92 participants joined 20 industry mentors and four judges for an intensive weekend workshop. Nine student startup ideas resulted from the event.

16. The Texas State COLLEGIATE

ENTREPRENEURS’ ORGANIZATION

(CEO) chapter attended the CEO National Conference in October 2016. The team received first place in Best Marketing Plan, second place for the Best Fundraising Chapter and third place in the Best Business Chapter category. The faculty advisors are DR. JAMES BELL,

7. MR. SCOTT EMERSON, was recognized as a TEXAS STATE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS in fall 2016. Mr. Emerson is the founder and CEO of The Emerson Group, a global company with partners in Europe, Asia, and North and South America, connecting suppliers and retailers of health and beauty products from around the world. The company includes Emerson Marketing, Emerson Healthcare and Emerson Consulting.
