    Three Peaks Challenge!

Thanks for taking the time to pick this up & read up on our undertaking of the Three Peaks

    Challenge!

    Challenge

In its simplest form the challenge is to climb the three tallest Mountains in Scotland, England &

    Wales within 24 hours!

The mountains are Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales.

    June, with the climbing being

    done on the 28th

    & 29th

    .

There will be 17 of us taking on the challenge, as well as two drivers who will be transporting us

between the mountains. The names of those taking part are below:

    - Jade Bartholomew- Paige Bartholomew- Matt Coleman- Scott Davis- Adam Gifford- Jack Hart- Reece Hutchison- Ryan Jaques- Ben Latcham- Sally Lyall- Lexi Peters- Watit Prachumchan- Hannah Rushbrook- Aimee Short- Sean Sullivan- Nathan Warman

Huge thanks to Paul Gifford who will be driving the minibus.

    Cause

If you are here today you will already know that we are raising money in loving memory of our friend

& sister Melissa Price, and for the Papworth Hospital Charity, who looked after her whilst she was ill.

    A Quick Note

One point we must make is that for the vast majority of us, this will be the hardest physical challenge

weve ever faced, the most experience most of us have had with mountains is Radar Hill! Due to this,

we are not strictly limiting ourselves to 24 hours to complete. Of course, well aim to hit the 24 hour

deadline, but if it takes us 26 hours in the end, so be it, as long as weve managed to get to the end

as a team and have fun whilst doing so, challenge complete as far as were concerned!

In light of our inexperience, we have spent the last six months planning every detail of the challenge

down to each rock! Each of us will be fully aware of exactly what were taking on, and we will be fully

equipped with walking equipment, GPS devices and first aid kits (a few members of the group are

also First Aid qualified). We have also looked at the routes themselves in complete detail, allowing

us to select the ones that present the least danger as we climb up & down the mountains! Even the

date itself has been carefully selected. The 28th

June is only a week away from Summer Solstice, the

longest day in the year, which means that we will have as much sunlight as possible whilst climbing

    the mountains.

    Plan

    1. Leave South Woodham in the early afternoon on the 27thand drive all the way up toInverness (but not before picking up some members of the group from Glasgow airport!)

    2. Stay in Inverness overnight and drive down to Fort William on Saturday morning for the startof the challenge.

    3. Officially start the challenge by touching the water of Loch Linnhe at Fort William.4. Start from Ben Nevis Visitor centre at 05:00pm and head onto the Goat Track

    5. Take sheep path up to mountain. Aim for 3 hour ascent (summit at 08:00pm).

    5/11

    6. Descent back down should be easier so allow for 2 hours. Finish Ben Nevis by 10:00pm.7. Leave Scotland for the Lake District.8. Drive through Highlands and through Glasgow and towards England. Once in England head

past Carlisle and towards Lake District (full driving route below).

    6/11

    9. Drive should take 5hrs 21mins according to Google Earth, so we should be at the LakeDistrict by 3:30am. Best to get as much sleep as possible during drive.

    10. If were at LD by 3:30, it wont be safe to climb, so best to eat for half an hour/hour.11.Sun should be rising by 04:00am so well start Scafell Pike then. Most popular route starts

from Wasdale Head Inn, so well start there (below shows the start of the path on the right).

12.Aim for a 2 hour ascent to the top of the mountain.

    7/11

13.Aim for a 2 hour descent, to be back by 09:00am.

    14. In order to have five hours for Snowdon, the drive must be completed within 3 hours. Due tothe route being prone to traffic, this is the number one reason most people fail the

    challenge.

15.Get to Pen-Y-Pas car park by 12:00pm, and begin ascent of Snowdon via the Pyg Trackroute.

16.There are multiple routes, but the Pyg track seems both the safest and the quickest (whilstbeing safe). We should be at the top by 2:30pm, and back down by 5:00pm, giving us 24

    hours!

17.To officially finish the challenge, head over to the town of Caernarfon and touch the sea. This small extra route does not count in the total 24 hours, and is more of a tradition.

18.Have some well-deserved food and alcohol before staying the night in Caernarfon.19.Drive home on the following morning!

Thank you for taking the time to read this! Any donations or support you provide are

    hugely appreciated!!!
