Polymers & PetrochemicalsWe execute everything from feasibility studies, lump sum turnkey contracts and polymer treatment, to handling, conveying, storage, packing and shipping.

We have been involved in all categories of polymerisation processes including those associated with the production of LDPE, linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyester (PET) and acrylics. In petrochemicals, we have executed projects for the technologies of the Vinyl Chain, Oxo-Alcohols and Caprolactam. In polymer manufacturing, we have designed and constructed more than 70 plants, including 35 for LDPE and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). We have successfully built plants in locations ranging from greenfields to sites closely integrated with existing facilities.

We built the world’s first 400 kta single stream LDPE plant in the UK. Beyond its sheer size, this project’s distinctions also included the use of advanced state-of-the-art equipment at the heart of the process. This included the 20-cylinder hyper compressor driven by the world’s largest slow speed synchronous 33 MW electric motor, while the two-stage hyper-compressor compresses Ethylene Gas at 300 bar to 3,000 bar.

More recently, we have delivered two 300 kta LDPE plants in 2010, one in the Middle East and one in South-East Asia.

AtourBTCpipelineproject,weconducteddetailedvegetationmappingalongthepipelineRightOfWaytodocumentthethreatenedspeciesinthearea,withtheassistanceofarchaeologists,zoologists,botanistsandotherenvironmentalspecialists.Duringconstruction,environmentallyandarchaeologicallysensitiveareaswerebarricaded,erosionwascontrolledandriverswereprotected.Inthepost-constructionphase,wehandledreinstatementandbio-restoration,includingre-positioningoftopsoil,re-contouringofthearea,re-growthofflora,riverbankprotectionandinparticular,thesuccessfulreinstatementoftheZamantiRiveranditstributaries,hometoindigenousfish,aquaticandexoticplantsandmigratorybirds.

FortheTunuFieldDevelopmentPhase9projectinIndonesia,ourenvironmentaleffortsweretwofold.ThefirstgoalwastoprotecttheMahakamDelta.ThiswasachievedbytheuseofHorizontalDirectionalDrilling(HDD)totraversethe2kmlengthofthe20”diagaspipeline,whichensuredminimalenvironmentaldamage.Wealsousedjutesandbagsinplaceofplasticbagstoblocktheswampandplanted1millionmangrovetreestopreventerosionandrestoretheenvironment.ThesecondgoalwastoprotecttheimportanteconomicactivitiesoffishingandshrimpfarmingintheMahakamDelta.Tothisend,weconductedconstantanalysesofseawatertomaintainitsnaturalqualityandensurethesurvivalofthefloraandfaunaintheDelta.

Leveragingonourinfrastructurecapabilities,theschoolwasbuiltwiththebestamenities,includingmodernteachingandcomputereducationfacilities,swimmingpool,gymnasium,andstate-of-the-artmulti-purposeauditorium.Sinceopeningin2003,theschoolhasdevelopedfromasolelyprimaryschooltoincludeasecondaryschool,fromaccommodating100studentstoover1,100students.Startedasaschoolforthefemalechildtocorrectthearea’sgenderbias,itgainedsomuchinpopularitythatDayawantiPunjModelSchoolhasevolvedintoaco-educationalEnglishmediumschool.

Wealsoprovidedforthestaff,buildingwell-furnishedaccommodationformorethan50qualifiedteachersandtheirfamiliestoresideoncampus.Ontheprofessionalside,webuiltanadvancedtrainingcentretokeepteachersupdatedwiththelatestdevelopmentsinteachingmethodologyandchildpsychology.

Scholarshipsandsponsorshipsareprovidedtoenabledeservingchildren,especiallygirls,tocontinuetheireducation.Weareconstantlydevelopingtheschool,currentlybuildinghostelstomeetthegrowingdemandforstudentboardingandasportsacademytohelpstudentsrealisetheirsportingaspirations.TheschoolhasplayedaconsiderableroleinthedevelopmentofSitamarhiandweareusingitasaspringboardforanumberofalliedinitiativestoupliftthestandardandqualityoflifeforthepeopleinthisregion.

WiththesupportoftheInternationalFinanceCorporation(IFC),amemberoftheWorldBankGroupandSNSFoundation(SNSF)anNGO,welaunchedthislife-affirminginitiativeinMedicity,ourprojectinGurgaonIndia.Withthesacrednessoflifeandthedignityofhumanityasourguidingprinciples,weaimedforanoverallimprovementinthebehaviourandlifestyleofourconstructionworkers,whichinturnwouldincreasetheirindividualsenseofself-worthandwell-being.

Tosafeguardthelivesofthelocalpeople,weregularlyconducttrafficawarenessandcommunitysafetytrainings.Leveragingonourconstructionexpertise,wetakeituponourselvestoimprovethelocalinfrastructure,byrepairingexistingamenities from roads to drainage systems,andbuildingnewfacilitiesforwater,electricityandothernecessities.

Weprovidefreemedicalcheck-ups,deployambulancestoremotevillagesanddeliverassistanceinemergencies.Wealsoconducthealthandenvironmentalawarenessprogrammesforthelocalcommunitytoadoptgoodhealthandhygienepractices.Wherethecommunityhasnotbeenabletocomeus,wehavegonetothem.InMadhyaPradesh,wesupportedtheLifelineExpress,afullyfunctionalfive-bogeytrainprovidingthebestexamination and operation theatre facilityonwheels.TheLifelineExpresstreatedmorethan10,000patientsforeye,cardiac,ENTproblemsandpolio,amongmanychronicillnessesandailments.
