ST MARGARET CLITHEROW CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL, POLHEARNE WAY, BRIXHAM,DEVON TQ5 0EE Thought for the week Joke for the week Awesome Achievers Welcome to our CELEBRATION NEWSLETTER ! This week we had our first Transition sessions and four groups for children from Y1 to Y5 enjoyed a fun ‘Farewell Picnic’ with their teachers. Luckily, the weather was on our side and so everyone had an enjoyable time together on the field. Next week we continue with our transition sessions with more ‘Farewell Picnics’ and our ‘Moving-Up’ sessions, when the children meet their new teacher. It was lovely to see them all and we look forward to seeing many more next week. For those coming in, it is important to read the ‘Guide to Transition’ which I emailed to you all the week before. We have had many telephone calls about the arrangements - all is included in the Guide. We have also had some queries about the wearing of face masks. The DFE and Trust guidance is clear that neither children not staff need to routinely wear PPE, including face masks. In the event of a child displaying symptoms, staff looking after them until their parent arrives to take them home, will wear PPE should they need to be in close proximity to the child. The wearing of a face mask does not protect the wearer - it protects those around them. There is an added risk also as children find it difficult to refrain from touching the mask and don’t now how to remove it in the correct way. Frequent hand washing, good respiratory hygiene (Catch it, Bin it, Kill it), showering and changing clothes when they come home from school, are the best ways to protect those in school and are all included in our risk assessment. We would therefore ask that your child does not wear a face mask if attending a transition session. Mrs Gill Our Catholic Life This week’s assembly called ‘Looking back, Stepping forward’ and can be found here. This was the final liturgy of the school year and it was fitting that Miss Lowry, the new headteacher joined us and read the Gospel reading for us. https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/looking-back-stepping-forward The end of the school year - albeit very different to usual! - provides a perfect opportunity in this assembly to reflect on the things we can be thankful for and look back with eyes of faith on all the wonderful gifts that God has given us during the year. “Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13: 1 - 9 Have a lovely weekend and stay safe! Well done for another fantastically busy week in school! This week has been great fun, because we got to see and wave at some of our friends. The Year One and Year Two

children came into school to see us and to spend some time in our ‘changed’ environment. We were not able to get too close because we could cross pods, but it was

lovely to see them from a distance!

This week we have been busy doing our maths work. We worked as a group looking at addition and working out the missing numbers in the numbers sentences. We then used ten frames and counters to support our learning. Lacie, Lennie and Reece worked really

hard and enjoyed it so much they didn’t want to stop! Darcy enjoyed completing the number matching activity within the provision.

We have used our ‘special friends’ to make alien names. Piper and Adam created some really funny names that were a ‘lot of nonsense!’ Archie worked really well during

phonics and was able to write down some ‘ng’ words. He tried so hard with his handwriting!

We had lots of fun in the Continuous Provision. We used the mud kitchen, the water wall and we built things using the big wooden blocks. We used the water trays and also

did some painting. We wrote notes and created even more potions! On Wednesday Mr Zaki came in and this week we did some unicorn and bunny yoga.

Harriet tried really hard. We really enjoy yoga and often ask if we can do it every day! We played some games and enjoyed using the equipment on the playground.

We also celebrated Lacie’s 6th birthday and of course we had to have some more cake!

Yum yum! What a lovely week! It was great to see some of the Year One and Two children, we have missed them so much. Well done Red Pod for your fantastic attitude to all that you do.

You are such wonderful, hard -working and independent learners.

Have a fab weekend!

We are now just over one week away from the end of term and I can’t quite believe where the time has gone. It has been lovely to see more of you visiting school for the transition days

and I am really excited about seeing my Year 3 children on Monday.

We have spent another busy week making, writing and calculating and have worked hard and had lots of fun too. We have been experimenting with eggs to make them float,

designing our own awesome hotels and looking at some fantastic facts about Octopus.

Mrs Dudman has been in school this week and we were all excited to see her. We have also enjoyed volleyball with Mr Zaki.

We look forward to seeing you all again soon and hope that you are enjoying your home

learning too.

Year 6 Blue and Green Pods

Another jam packed week full of finishing work off, transitions and preparations for the Year 6s last full week at primary school! We welcomed back another Year 6

student to join us for the last few weeks of term and as with everyone who has come back to school she settled in straight away to the new routines and has enjoyed

catching up with her friends.

In maths this week we have focused on ratios, and it has been wonderful to see so many make such great progress and show such great resilience as we got to grips with

solving ratio problems. In English, the children have been preparing their leavers assembly speeches (tissues at the ready) and continuing their work on their

Alphabiographies; filling them up with as many old photos and happy memories as we can.

In RE we have completed our learning about other faiths; where we were focused on Sikhism their symbols, beliefs and founder. Y6 had their final music lesson with Mr

Hopkin this week, creating their own band with all the instruments out on the playground – lots of music, singing and laughter.

This week also saw many of our Year 6s have a transition meeting at Brixham College

with their new tutors and it was so lovely to see them coming back into school buzzing with excitement about their next adventure.

This week we have also been planning ahead for next week; which is quickly becoming jam packed with lots of end of year treats and activities to give the Year 6s a fabulous

last week at Primary School; watch this space…

Hello Lovely Home Learners, What a week!

Some of you had the opportunity to go into school for the first time since March! Yeah! Many of you messaged me afterwards to say that you had really enjoyed seeing all your friends again and can’t wait to go back for another session. I know that all the adults were extra pleased to see all your smiling faces and look forward to seeing you again

soon. In terms of your Home Learning this week, I really thought at one point that I had been transported to a mysterious island. I have been wowed by your drawings, models and paintings of mythical creatures. They have been both varied and highly creative. Also, many of you created some very unusual animals. One was a mixture of a tiger, a lion

and a flamingo. What a strange combination!

I also loved your hotel designs. Inspired by Wednesday’s Wow starter, many of you couldn’t wait to go off and build models and set down plans for your very own leisure

complexes. I could really imagine myself surrounded by magical land and sea creatures, whilst staying in a most luxurious hotel.

It’s lovely that so many of you are keeping up with your phonics, spellings and reading. This is really important as they are the basis of so much of your learning. One thing I have noticed though, is that some of you haven’t been on Times Tables Rockstars for

quite some time!! Don’t forget to keep this up and remember the saying, ‘Use it, or lose it’. So…I will be checking in on TTR next week to see who has been playing.

Your maths this week has been really varied. Year 6 have been investigating ratio and others of you have been sharing numbers, exploring arrays, measuring and drawing

angles and solving mass problems. I have been giving you feedback as usual on Google Classroom and checking all your answers so it would be great to see you go back and

have a look at some of your answers again, when you have made a mistake.

Some of you have been working scientifically this week by carrying out experiments with eggs. The challenge was to see whether you could float an egg in a beaker of water by

gradually adding salt to it. For those of you who gave this a go, you mentioned that your noticed the egg starting to ‘stand up’ at first and as you added more and more salt, it

eventually floated to the top of the beaker. If you haven’t had a chance to try the experiment yet, see if you can organise some time over the weekend to ‘Be Amazed’.

Also, let me know why you think this happens.

Continuing with the science theme, others of you have been making your very own ‘octopus’. In this investigation, you had to create an ‘octopus’ using a plastic bag filled with water. As these marine creatures are invertebrates, they can squeeze

through very tiny holes. Your task was to try and get your ‘octopus’ through a tiny space, like in through the top of a plastic milk carton. Hopefully, this helped you to

understand what invertebrates are really capable of by looking at scientific evidence.

Coincidentally(or was it?), one of Mrs Dudman’s Wow Starters this week was all about amazing sea creatures and it was fantastic that so many of you could recall the names of the oceans. With your developing knowledge of

sea creatures and the habitat in which they live, perhaps some of you are heading for a career in

Marine Biology!

With one full week left before the beginning of the summer holiday (only Monday and Tuesday in the final week!), let’s see if we can end the year by continuing to

celebrate all our amazing Home Learning.

Keep smiling, Mrs Callaghan
