Clinical Indications of Thorne Research Products

Dear Colleagues,

Many of you already know that for the past eight years over 90% of the supplements we

use in our practice come from Thorne Research of Dover, Idaho (800-228-1966). Back in

1989 I did an in office study and kept statistics. I was treating fairly sensitive/allergicpatients and wanted to find out which brand of nutrients they could tolerate best and

which would perform best clinically. I took seven brands (the ones that most physicians

use including ones that claim to be hypoallergenic). What I did was line up differentproducts that were either identical or very similar in label content (e.g. 7 different 30 mg.

zinc) and using muscle testing as an evaluation procedure, blindly tested them on a given

patient and collected stats on how many times each product strengthened weak muscles.

I was surprised to find that many times before I started doing this I concluded a patientdidn't need a given nutrient when in actuality they did, but for some reason the brand I

was testing did not work. The in office study involved over 100 patients. My data Icollected showed that the supplements made by Thorne showed up positive

(strengthening weak muscles) over 300% more than other brands. Almost every time

another brand was positive Thornes was also, and many times Thorne was the only brand

testing positive.

As I started using more of their products I found that clinically my results improveddramatically, my patients felt better and responded faster. Over the years since, hundreds

of D.C.'s have agreed with my observations. Since the original study, I have repeated it a

few times as new brands came on the market and my results have been virtually the same as

in the 1989 study.I was most interested in finding out why this was happening which led me to study

manufacturing procedures, sources of nutrients, fillers, binders, etc. I have personally

concluded that Thorne has the "cleanest" products on the market. With the onslaught of

chemicals in our society, it only makes sense to use the purest supplements possible.

Many of you would be amazed at what can legally get put in supplements and not listedon the label. I have put together a list of products we commonly use and where we find

them effective. We hope you find this useful.

CLINICAL INDICATIONS OF THORNE RESEARCH PRODUCTS

AL'S FORMULAThis is a multi-nutrient formula geared to males over 40. It contains the ingredients of Basic Nutrients V plus

saw palmetto, glycine, glutamic acid, and alanine for prostate support, and also hawthorn and fractionated

pectin. I always test basic Nutrients I-V on male patients as well. I choose whichever multi tests best (we use

thedistance test to determine this).

There are 240 capsules and the recommended dose is eight daily.

ANTI-OXIDANT

This is a broad spectrum anti-oxidant including DMG and reduced glutathione. Cellular tissue damage is

common in states of chronically ill health and much of this is due to oxidative stress known as free radical

pathology. Anti-oxidants both in the form of enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase, as well as certain

vitamins, minerals, and amino acids are the body's protection against oxidative stress - a common problem in

our urban/suburban, chemicalized, high stress society. Many chemically sensitive patients find this product

very helpful.1 cap 3x daily

AR-ENCAP

This is a very effective formula for your arthritic patient. It contains four ingredients: a)Glucosamine sulfate -

the primary substrate for the biosynthesis of proteoglycans which provide the framework for collagen and

give tissue its flexibility and resilience. It also plays a role in the formation of articular surfaces, tendons,

ligaments, synovial fluid, skin, bones, nails, heart valves, etc.; b) Boswellia Serrata- an herb traditionally used

in Ayurvedic medicine. It causes total inhibition of the total complement pathway, and blocks formation of

leukotrienes (potent pro-inflammatory products which also cause bronchoconstriction and increased vascular

permeability). Boswellia also has a marked analgesic effect. Studies in Indiasuggest it can be of benefit inreducing joint swelling and morning stiffness, increased mobility, and reducing pain with no side effects; c)

Devils Claw- used traditionally as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Studies have reported both

anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects; d) Prickly Ash- reported to stimulate the circulation and lymphaticsystem and to be effective in helping rheumatic diseases. Remember in arthritic diseases to check for and

treat dysbiosis, food sensitivities, deficiencies of essential fatty acids, P-5-P, zinc, niacin, magnesium, etc. I do

not use this quite as often as Glucosamine-Chondroitin.

ARABINEX

This product from the larch tree contains long densely branched high molecular weight polysaccharides

similar to those in Echinacea and therapeutic mushrooms. It is immune stimulating and extremely useful in

acute viral infections. This is my favorite product for acute viral conditions. A few patients have claimed it as

made their warts fall off.

Adult dose 1T 3x daily Children 1t 3x daily

ARTECINArtecin is a broad spectrum anti-parasitic herb. Approximately 70% of our patients test positive at some point

for a parasitic condition. It tests more frequently on our parasite patients than any other herb. If Artecin tests

negative, try Citricidin, Black, Walnut, or Picrasma Excelsa. Note that Artecin and Citricidin may be

indicated for use together.

1 cap 3x daily

ASCORBIC ACID

This is the purest on the market (see if any other brands will totally dissolve in water). We have found it very

useful in heavy metal toxicity (particularly mercury), as well as in immune deficiency, and in acute infectious

processes (when taken to bowel tolerance)

BASIC B COMPLEX

Due to the intake of processed foods, dysbiosis, internalized stress, hypoadrenia, etc., many patients are

deficient in B vitamins. Additionally, factors such as genetics, environmental exposures, dietary intake may

cause certain B vitamins to be lower than others in a particular patient. Thorne has 6 different B complexes.Basic B is a balanced B mixture while complexes 1,3,5,6 and 12 are B complexes with higher amounts of one

particular B (e.g. B complex #1 is higher in B1). We have found that in most cases, giving the appropriate

complex works better clinically for us than giving an isolated nutrient (exceptions are: P-5-P, Folacal,

Cobamamide, and R-5-P). For the most part with muscle testing, a patient will test for only one of the

products due to its particular ratio of nutrients. We have gotten wonderful clinical results with these products

and test each one on a G-2 muscle for strengthening. We have found this product also very useful in women

who appear to have too much estrogen.

BASIC PYGEUM HERBAL

This product is a combination of two botanical extracts: saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) and pygeum (Prunus

afticanus), with the amino acids alanine, glycine, and glutamic acid. It is very helpful in cases of benign

prostatic hyperplasia. Serenoa repens contains plant sterols which block the prostate steroid receptors

responsible for stimulating prostate enlargement. Pygeum contains anti-inflammatory fatty acid esters which

are specific to the prostate (ferulic acid esters of n-docosanol).

2 caps 2x daily

B-COMPLEX #1

B-Complex #1 is a B combination with proportionally higher amounts of thiamin. It should be tested for

when patients weaken on acetone. The following symptoms may suggest a deficiency: confusion, depression,

fatigue, irritability, numbness, anorexia, or a history of alcohol abuse. Recent research has shown that high

doses of B-1 can be very useful in MS type syndromes.

B-COMPLEX #3

This complex has higher amounts of Niacin. B-Complex #3 is useful for prostaglandin imbalances, chlorine

and other chemical sensitivities, fatigue, food sensitivity symptoms, depression, headaches, insomnia,memory impairment, dermatitis, halitosis, elevated cholesterol or triglycerides.

B-COMPLEX #5

This combination contains more Pantothenic Acid. It is indicated for adrenal cases, recurrent emotional

complaints, neurovascular symptoms, anterograde patterns, CW torque, patients sensitive to chlorine and

vinegar, abdominal pain, eczema, depression, fatigue, nervousness, and alopecia.

1-2 caps daily

B-COMPLEX #6

B-Complex #6 has higher amounts of pyridoxal-5 phosphate and pyridoxine. It is indicated for treatment of

food sensitivities, prostaglandin imbalances and other conditions; see pyridoxal-5 phosphate for more

indications.1-2 caps daily

B-COMPLEX #1 2

This complex is used to treat anemia, MSG sensitivity, achlorhydria, constipation, depression, dizziness,

fatigue, headaches, numbness and glossitis.

BASIC NUTRIENTS I and III

Basic Nutrients I and III are used in geographic areas where people tend to be copper toxic (children's formula

Basic Nutrients 1), or for those who have enough bodily stores of iron and do not need iron supplementation.

These are the multivitamin/mineral I use most commonly. My wife and sons have been on basic Nutrients III

for over a decade.

BASIC NUTRIENTS IV

I feel this (along with Basic Nutrients I,II,III,V)is the best multivitamin-mineral available and almosteveryone will test for it (or Basic Nutrient III) at some point in their treatment program. It should be tested for

on all patients. Some patients need to be on it for a month or two, while others need indefinite

supplementation for maintenance. Occasionally, patients will not test for it on the first visit, but will instead

test for isolated nutrients like zinc, selenium, etc. Quite often within a few weeks their nutrient ratios will be

better balanced and testing will then indicate it's use.

3 caps 2x daily (with or after meals)

BASIC NUTRIENTS V

This is an excellent product. It is the only multi we are aware of with activated forms of B12

(Adenosylcobalamin) and folic acid (folinic acid), ultra chrome, and potassium, calcium, and magnesium in

the citrate-malate form. Other differences between it and Basic Nutrients IV include the presence of vitamin

Kl and the exclusion of iron and iodine. We have been testing it for some time and find a number of patients

who test for it but for no other multi (not even Basic Nut. III or IV). We have also found patients that test for

either Basic Nut. III or IV but not V, so we carry all three and supplement with the appropriate product as

needed.

BERBERCAP

Berbercap contains an extract of the herb Berberis Aristata, the major ingredient of the product Enterocap, but

without the added grapefruit seed extract. Berberis exhibits anti-microbial activity against bacteria (gram

positive and negative), fungi, and protozoa, Strept pyogenes, most Candida species, Entamoeba histolytica,

Giardia lamblia, Klebsiella etc. Some time ago, I conducted an in-office study comparing Berbercap to

Enterocap. Berbercap strengthened weak G-2 muscles approximately 25% more often than Enterocap (though

there were cases where Entercap was positive but Berbercap was negative). In some cases the grapefruit seed

extract rendered the product less useful to the patient, so we now carry both products and use whichever is

indicated in dysbiotic patients. Both work well when they are indicated. Berbercap is my most used anti-

bacterial.1 cap 3x daily

BETA CAROTENE

Beta Carotene has both immune stimulating and anti-oxidant properties. It should be screened for in cases of

retrograde pattern, kidney involvement, weak pectoralis major sternal, acne, and vision problems.

BETAIN HCL/PEPSIN

This product is helpful in acidifying the stomach for patients with digestive disorders, especially those with

difficulty breaking down proteins. It contains no lactose, which is frequently an unlisted dilutent for pepsin.

We find it occasionally helpful in dysbiotic patients by restoring proper gastric pH, rendering the

gastrointestinal tract less desirable for dysbiotic organisms.

1-2 caps per meal

BI0-B12

We have found Bio-Bl2 should be screened for when patients with suspected B12 deficiencies are not

responding to Cobamamide or other B12's. This appears to be due to a simultaneous deficiency of folic acid,

or Bl2 deficiency with pancreatic insufficiency, which this product will address.

1 cap 3 times daily

BIO-GEST

Bio-Gest is a broad spectrum digestive aid, containing: Betaine and Glutamic HCl to increase gastric activity;

Pepsin for proteolytic activity in the stomach; Pancreatin providing enzymatic action to break down protein,

starches and fats, and ox bile for enhanced fatty acid absorption.

BIOMINS and BIOMINS II

Biomins is a broad spectrum mineral supplement I use quite often on patients that don't test for Basic

Nutrients. Biomins frequently tests positive for these patients. It works well on general mineral deficiencysymptoms such as splitting nails, bleeding gums, etc. Upon screening, most patients will show a test

preference for Biomins II (without copper or iron). I use both products quite often especially in patients who

do not need Basic Nutrients.

1 cap 3x daily

BIOTIN-8

Biotin is a water soluble vitamin involved in fixation of C02 into organic compounds. Deficiencies can exist

due to antibiotic use, Candida and other gut flora problems. Dermatitis, depression, fatigue, anemia,

hyperglycemia and alopecia are possible deficiency symptoms, This is also useful in treating some diabetes

cases.

1 cap 3x daily

BLACK CURRANT OIL

Black Currant Oil is a vegetable oil high in Omega 6 fatty acids. We find it useful in some cases of

prostaglandin imbalances, PMS, and eczema. Also test Super EPA and Omega Plus in cases you suspect fatty

acid problems.

I cap 3x daily

BORON PICOLINATE

This is most frequently talked about for treating and preventing osteoporosis, though it shows in quite a

variety of clinical conditions including hormone imbalances.

1 cap 3x daily

DOUBLE BROMELAIN

Double Bromelain is a wonderful anti-inflammatory for acute musculoskeletal problems. Check it as well as

Collag-en, manganese picolinate and prostaglandin inhibitors on all acute patients. High doses can be useful

in rheumatoid patients.2 caps 3x daily between meals

M.F. BROMELAIN

We have used this product for quite some time, but recently have been using it more in treating the toxic,

allergic patient. It has many pharmacological effects: a) can act as a substitute for trypsin and pepsin in cases

of decreased pancreatic function and is active over a wide pH range; b) acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory

agent by activating plasmins and decreasing kinin levels; c) inhibits platelet aggregation thus helping angina

patients; d) has antibiotic properties; e) is a strong mucolytic, useful in respiratory disease; f) useful in both

acute and chronic thrombophlebitis; g) as a smooth muscle relaxer it has been used to treat dysmenorrhea. Its

main use has been post athletic injury and post surgery to reduce edema, bruising, and speed healing time.

1 cap 3x daily between meals

BUFFERED C POWDERBuffered C Powder is an excellent C for sensitive patients. In some cases it can abort sensitivity reactions due

to food and/or chemical sensitivities. Sensitive patients can keep some around to use as needed. It has been

used for many years by clinical ecologists to decrease the time and duration of sensitivity reactions, and is

also useful during fungus and/or parasite die off to decrease reaction severity.

I heaping tsp. in water every 2-3 hours works well

CAL-MAG CITRATE EFFERVESCENT POWDER

This product is very useful in patients that are low in both calcium and magnesium. It often tests positive

while the individual nutrients tested separately do not. It tests positive for many musculoskeletal cases and

hypertension.

CALCIUM CITRATE

Calcium Citrate is useful in musculoskeletal cases, for insomnia, for people who hold in their emotions, and in

treating hypertension. Other signs of deficiency include agitation, depression, eczema, hyperactivity,

palpitations, periodontal disease.1 cap 3x daily

CALCIUM-MAGNESIUM CITRAMATE

This is a very absorbable form that is perfect for the patient with osteoporosis.

3-6 caps daily

CAPTOMER

It contains meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid. It has been used for years as a chelator of mercury, lead,

arsenic and copper. I feel it is the most effective metal chelator on the market. It has been a lifesaver for

many of my patients (including myself), who have metal toxic symptoms including extreme memory loss,

mood swings, numbness, cervical lymphatic swelling and strange neurological symptoms. Studies say it

crosses the blood-brain barrier which makes it very effective. Pharmaceutical doses are approximately 6-

3x/daily for the average adult though I prefer 1-3x/daily. Occasionally symptoms do occur as metals are

taken from storage cites to be excreted. Brain fog due to the excreting metals can be a temporary side effect.

I was an incredibly irritable mess with virtually no memory after amalgam removal in the early '90s and

DMSA restored my memory and calmed my disposition. I still test for it occasionally. It is important to

test for a patient's need for it every visit as sometimes it is better to do a few weeks on and then a few weeks

off. It is the treatment of choice in children with lead toxicity. After using it you may find more metals test

on a patient then did initially as some are pulled out of storage. It can also bind zinc so monitor zinc levels

also.

CAPTOMER-250

Captomer now also comes in a 250 mg capsule. In this dose there is no magnesium added to fill the capsule

and it is more cost effective for those needing higher doses.This dose is very oil soluble and we find it very

effective (when it tests positive of course) to dissolve it in flax or olive oil and apply it topically where you

think there is metal deposition. Often this is in places where there is chronic pain or chronic subluxations and

often the results border on the "miraculous". The dose for topical application is one cap dissoved in as little oilas it needs to dissolved rubbed on twice daily. Also your very sensitive patients will often do better on

Captomer 250 instead of regular Captomer due to the absence of the magnesium.

L-CARNITINE

Test for L-Carnitine on all patients with cardiac problems, liver problems, chronic musculoskeletal problems

and chemical sensitivities. It has the following clinical uses and properties: 1) transports fat into the

mitochondria of muscle cells-, 2) has shown to be an effective anti-angina agent; 3) improves muscle building

- I find it indicated for many athletes 4) used to help and/or correct congestive heart failure, idiopathic mitral

valve prolapse, various cardiac myopathies 5) helpful in many kidney and liver diseases 6) has triglyceride

and cholesterol lowering properties. It is positive on a lot of vegetarians.

CARNITYLAcetyl-L-Carnitine is a naturally occurring amino acid similar to acetylcholine. It is a strong antioxidant,

stabilizes membranes, and enhances cholinergic transmissions. It is considered neuroprotective. It has been

used in treating Alzheimer's, senile dementia, Downssyndrome and depression. In my clinical observationswith applied kinesiology, I have found Carnityl to strengthen almost all of my sensitive chronic type patients

(including those with neurological conditions like MS). Often it blocks positive muscle tests of most metals

(including mercury) and toxic chemicals. It is possible that it actually helps pull metals and chemicals out of

the brain (it readily crosses the blood-brain barrier).

The dose I use is one capsule, two or three times daily.

CHROMIUM PICOLINATE

This mineral is an essential trace element. It increases glucose tolerance in diabetics and hypoglycemics, and

reduces serum cholesterol. I often find its supplementation indicated in athletes and pregnant women

(especially with a tendency toward gestational diabetes).

CITRICIDIN

Citricidin has antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasite activity. It is very useful in parasite cases and difficult

G.I. cases, often used with Artecin.

CITRAMINS and Citramins II

Citramins is similar to Biomins but the minerals are in citrate form rather than in picolinate form. It is a great

all-encompassing mineral supplement. We find that some people do better on picolinates while some do

better on citrates. Citramins should be tested on all patients that do not need Basic Nutrients.

COBAMAMIDE

This is an activated form of B12, useful for all B12 needs.

COLLAG-EN

Screen for Collag-En in all disc cases and chronic musculoskeletal cases. It helps heal connective tissue.

CO-1 0

Most of you are familiar with this nutrient already. Co-enzyme Q 10 is a substance essential to the health of

all human tissue because of its importance in electron transport, cellular respiration, and enzyme production.

It is synthesized by humans but many people do not synthesize it in sufficient quantities to meet all their

needs. Co-enzyme Q10 appears to promote better functioning of cardiac tissue; it has thus been shown useful

in reducing angina episodes, reducing infarct size, treatment of congestive heart failure and cardiomyopathy,

mitral valve prolapse. It is also useful in reducing the toxicity of beta blockers, adriamycin (a chemotherapydrug), and some psychotrophic drugs. Published studies have shown Co-enzyme Q10 supplementation to be

useful in treatment of diabetes mellitus, periodontal disease, gastric ulcers, obesity, and immunosuppression.

It is useful in treating allergies by inhibiting histamine release, and also serves as an antioxidant. We test it on

many patients to see if it strengthens a weak G-2.

COPTIS

Coptis is a Chinese herb otherwise known as Huang Lian. It has many pharmacological effects: 1) strong

broad spectrum antifungal properties; 2) antiprotozoal action - Coptis kills leptospira, trichomonas and

amoeba in vitro and in vivo; 3) antiviral effect - Coptis has shown antiviral effects against influenza and new

castle virus 4) anti-microbial effects - Coptis is a broad spectrum anti-microbial, has shown inhibition of

streptococcus, staphylococcus, shigella, mycobacterium, hemophilus pertussis; 5) studies have shown Coptis

useful in treating bacillary dysentery, typhoid fever, scarlet fever, diphtheria, inflammatory bowel disease,suppurative otitis media, type II diabetes and acute tonsillitis. My main use for Coptis is that it is an effective

broad spectrum antifungal in the tincture form. We use it for children with fungal problems who are not

capable of swallowing capsules. We also use it in the small percentage of patients that either do not test for

SF722 (and have fungal problems), or have developed a sensitivity to it, or their fungus has developed a

resistance to it. Adult dose is 15 drops, three times daily in a routine case; we have doubled that in resistant

cases. Children are dosed accordingly by their weight. It does have a rather nasty taste, so we dilute it with a

little water when we take it. Coptis, like Berbercap, has berberine in it but this particular plant seems to have

a much stronger antifungal effect, whereas we find Berbercap extremely useful as an antibacterial. This

illustrates the fact that a plant is more than it's primary so -called active ingredient.

COPPER PICOLINATE

Copper Picolinate is useful for treating patients with food sensitivities. Other functions and therapeutic uses

of copper include: 1) Component of superoxide dismutase - an enzyme that converts toxic superoxide ions to

hydrogen peroxide; 2) Antiviral; 3) Component of an enzyme needed to produce elastin, a major protein of

connective tissue, and copper is also needed in collagen production; 4) Used in the conversion of dopamine tonoradrenalin, and the breakdown of serotonin (copper metalloenzyme tyrosinase catalyzes tyrosine to dopa

and melanin); 5) Used in the enzyme transport system. Copper deficiency can affect the circulatory system by

inducing abnormalities in the heart and blood vessels as well as causing increased cholesterol. Clinical

studies have shown copper deficiencies to be associated with alopecia, anemia, depression, dermatoses,

diarrhea, fatigue, fragile bones, respiration impairment, and weakness. Copper deficiencies are often created

by over supplementation with zinc and/or vitamin C.

CORTINE

Cortine is an adrenal support, useful when a patient is under high stress, and useful for normalizing low blood

sugar.

Cortex is adrenal support with synergistic herbs and nutrients.

CYSTEPLUS

Cysteplus stimulates intercellular gluthathione synthesis and thus is extremely useful in cases of chemical and

heavy metal sensitivity and toxicity. It can also protect lymphocytes from oxygen free radicals, and increase

the number of T-cells. It is an antiviral, has strong mucolytic properties which make it useful in treatment of

acute bronchitis, pneumonia, serous otitis media, etc. Test for Cysteplus on all chronic patients versus a G-2

muscle in the clear and also to see if it blocks positive reactions to chemicals and metals.

DHA

DHA is an Omega 3 essential fatty acid involved in proper neuronal and retinal function. It has been founduseful in ADHD and has anti-inflammatory properties. Most chronic cases will test for it at some point.

Dose is one cap t.i.d.

DIABINIL

This product was designed to help stabilize blood sugar. Besides Ultrachrome, Vanadyl sulfate, Lipoic acid,

Vaccinium myrtillus, and Quercetin chalcone which we are familiar with from other products, this also

contains Bitter melon which enhances glucose utilization and depresses glucose synthesis in the liver and

Gymnema sylvestre - an Ayurvedic medicine that normalizes blood sugar and increases the number of beta

cells in the pancreas. We have found this useful in patients with diabetic family histories.

2 caps 3x daily

DIPAN-9

Test Dipan-9 on patients who have a need for digestive enzymes. It is a pure very effective form of pancreaticenzymes.

1 cap 3x daily

E-500

This product is useful in treating chemical sensitivities, weak gluteus medius, and prostaglandin imbalances.

Vitamin E is a potent free radical scavenger. It can be helpful for arthritis, mal-absorption, intermittent

claudication, fibrocystic breasts, gait disturbances, infertility and diminished proprioception. We feel this is

the best vitamin E we have tested.

ENTEROCAP

Enterocap is a concentrated source of berberine as well as some grapefruit seed extract (Citricidin). Berberine

has strong antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic properties. It shows effectiveness against such resistant

organisms as Klebsiella, Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica, Candida tropicalis, Helicobacter pylori, etc.. It has

also shown positive where nothing else did (especially with people with Klebsiella and other abnormal bowelflora). There may be die off reactions.

FENUGREEK FIBER

This product is pure defatted Fenugreek powder packed 8 ounces per jar. It is 28% protein, 52% fiber. Tests

have proved it very useful in both glucose regulation as well as lipid regulation especially cholesterol.

FOLACAL

This has 800mcg of folinic acid, the active form of folic acid. It is absorbed more readily than folic acid and

corrects deficiency states more readily. It takes five steps for the body to convert folic acid to folinic acid.

Adequate liver function, small intestine function, as well as B3 and B6 are needed for proper conversion.

Folinic acid has a bio-availability of 92 - 98% and is our choice when a need for folic acid is indicated. It is

very valuable in correcting anemias, prevention of neural tube defects, hyoid imbalance, and is necessary in

norepinephrine synthesis. It can reverse the toxic effects of the chemotheraputic drug methotrexate to normal

cells. At higher doses (3 caps 3x daily), Folacal is useful in uterine cervical dysplasia (abnormal pap smears),

hot flashes, and gout. Since folate needs are increased by a factor of 6 in pregnancy, Thorne has also put out

their prenatal (Basic Prenatal) with folinic acid (the only product of its kind on the market) and a hematinic

(Ferrasorb) containing folinic acid, cobamamide (activated B12) and iron picolinate.

Folic Acid is a well tolerated, easy to take liquid form of this nutrient. It can aid in preventing

postmenopausal symptoms, switching and hyoid problems. It makes a great mouthwash in cases of gingivitis

and other gum diseases.

FORMULA SB313

This product is useful for pollen and mold sensitive patients. It has antihistaminic, anti-endotoxin and

antifree-radical properties, and is hepatoprotective.

FORMULA SF722

This is a broad spectrum antifungal. We have found clinically that besides Candida albicans, many other

fungi are routinely found in individuals and cause hypersensitivity reactions with resultant fatigue, irritability,

brain fog, recurrent musculoskeletal problems, etc. When treating these, besides an alleviation of the above

symptoms, we routinely see weight loss in overweight patients, disappearance of chronic athletes foot etc.

We have not used caprylic acid in years because we prefer this product. If a fungal problem isn't resolved in

three weeks, increase the dose to 7-3x daily -- remember to warn the patient about "die off' reactions; at higher

dosage check patient weekly. Once the fungal problem is resolved, if the patient stays on it, brain fog andfatigue are likely, so if they get these symptoms have them come in immediately to see if it is time to stop the

supplementation. This is by far the anti-fungal I use most frequently.

FORMULA SF734

A correlation exists between peptic and duodenal ulcers and colonization with Helicobacter Pylorii. The

ingredients in SF734 are formulated to both inhibit the growth of this species and to accelerate the healing of

ulcerous tissue. *Test over the stomach or duodenum as well as for food sensitivities that could aggravate the

patient's condition. Chicken and/or eggs can be a source of Helicobacter contamination, which SF734 can be

useful in treating. Worn patients that while taking SF734 their stool may turn black due to the bismuth in it.

chondro-protective supplement that should be considered in any degenerative joint disease or in injury repair.

Because Thorne's combination is free of stearic acid (which almost all other brands are not) it should have

superior absorption and assimilation.

GLUCOSAMINE SULFATE

Glucosamine sulfate is found in many body tissues. It is the primary substrate for the biosysthesis of

proteoglycans which provide the framework for collagen and give tissue its flexibility and resilience. It also

plays a role in the formation of articular surfaces, tendons, ligaments, synovial fluid, skin, bone, nails, heart

valves, etc. It is very well absorbed when taken orally. In contrast to N-Acetyl Glucosamine which is

currently being marketed, it appears that Glucosamine Sulfate is better absorbed, not altered in the intestine,

and preferentially utilized by the body. It has been found especially useful in cases of arthritis.

Recommended dose is one cap three times daily.

L-GLUTAMINE

This is the most abundant amino acid in the body. During times of infection, surgery, and injury, there is a

greatly increased demand for L-Glutamine (and deficiencies are likely to exist during these times). With

dysbiosis, food sensitivities, ingestion of intestine damaging NSAIDS, etc. so prevalent, damage to the

intestinal mucosa as well as increased gastrointestinal permeability is quite common. Adequate glutamine

levels can greatly facilitate intestinal healing. Glutamine supplementation can increase small bowel mucosal

thickness, villous height, preserve intestinal mucosal integrity, and enhance gut immune function. We test it

on all patients with dysbiosis, food sensitivities, etc. Sometimes it only tests positive after dysbiosis is

corrected. We buy it in the powdered form.

Dose is 1 scoop 3x daily

REDUCED GLUTATHIONE

We find it useful in chemical and metal (especially mercury) sensitivities/toxicities. Many people need it

although they do not test deficient in cysteine, glycine or glutamic acid (its components). I feel that some

patients, despite having the components, cannot synthesize it in adequate amounts. Perhaps your fogged-out

patient is also fogged out internally (I'm sure they are.) and is having a rough time synthesizing it until you've

cleared out other factors. Glutathione is a tripeptide with free thiol (-SH) groups. This property makes it a

very powerful anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogen, and binder of xenobiotics (toxic chemicals) and toxic metals

(especially mercury, gold, cadmium and copper). Selenium works synergistically with GSH as does vitamin

E and zinc. When there is an increased need for anti-oxidant activity it is theorized that most cells will require

GSH from the plasma (which gets it from the liver) as opposed to making it itself. When the liver's synthesis

capability is diminished ( as it easily is from chronic chemical and metal exposure), the body's GSH

requirement must be met via diet and supplementation. Dietarily, raw fruits and vegetables (especiallyspinach and parsley) can raise plasma GSH levels, though it is wise to also use supplementation at least

temporarily. Interestingly enough, animal studies have shown that supplementing with glycine and glutamic

acid had no effect on plasma and tissue GSH. Once GSH binds chemicals and metals, it is important to

excrete them as soon as possible; a diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, as well as healthy fats

(flax oil, possibly eggs from healthy chickens) can facilitate this process. When we test patients on chemicals

or metals and they weaken a strong indicator muscle, we check to see if the weakness is negated by

glutathione. If so, we supplement with it. GSH has proven to be a very useful product. It is also useful to

start taking about three days prior to any dental work, along with ascorbic acid (1 teas. t.i.d.) (do not take

ascorbic acid right before your appointment or it may render the anesthetic ineffective).

GLYCINE

Glycine is a major inhibitory neurotransmifter; useful for patients with convulsions. It is necessary for the

manufacture of glutathione, DNA, and collagen. A major component of CSF, it can prevent rancidity and is

mildly antibacterial and antifungal. It has cholesterol and triglyceride lowering effects, and lowers uric acid

levels. It is useful in speeding wound healing, and alleviating spasticity, alleviating toxic effects of phenol(one of the most common chemical sensitivities) and benzoic acid (a food additive), and can stimulate

synthesis of growth hormone and glucagon (making it useful in hypoglycemia).

1-5 grams daily

GLYCGEL

This is a topical gel made from glycyrrhiza glabra. It can be applied to herpes lesions (including herpes

simplex I & II and herpes zoster or shingles), vesicular stomatitis, etc. It appears to not only greatly speed up

the clearing of lesions but also decreases the frequency of their recurrence. This herb has been shown to

inhibit the growth of these viruses, and to inactivate them. It is also immunostimulatory, and stimulates the

synthesis and release of interferon.

Apply topically 3 to 4 times daily

GLYCO-TONE

Blood sugar handling problems can be caused by the pancreas, adrenals, liver, etc. This product includes

Licorice and Siberian ginseng for adrenal support as well as Ultrachrome, Pantethine, Niacinamide, C, P-5-P,

and Magnesium. We have found this product to test positive on patients with hypoglycemia.

G.T.-EX

This is a product containing decaffeinated green tea extract with 80% polyphenol concentration. The catechin

polyphenols in green tea are very strong antioxidants, and protect against fat rancidity. Green tea appears to

decrease the incidence of stroke and certain types of cancer. It also stimulates the production of glutathione

peroxidase and catalase, and inhibits cyclo-oxygenase and lipoxygenase thus proving useful in treating

chemical and metal toxicity as well as inflammatory problems. It also has antibacterial properties.

Dose is one capsule, three times daily.

HMC HESPERIDINThis product is effective in treating pollen and mold sensitivities, as well as for mold inhalant allergy

conditions. It can be useful for many food allergies, for gout, and varicose veins. HMC has also been used

successfully to stop hot flashes and for the prevention of miscarriages. When screening for allergy use, also

check Formula SB313 and the combination HMC Plus.

5-HYDROXYTRYPTOPHAN

This product contains 50 mg of 5-HTP along with 5 mg of P-5-P which is necessary in its conversion to

serotonin and melatonin. The 5-HTP in this supplement is extracted from the seed of Griffonia simplicifolia.

5-HTP increases levels of serotonin, melatonin, endorphins, dopamine, norepinephrine. It is a more effective

product than L-Tryptophan and should be considered in cases where it is advantageous to raise levels of the

above mentioned neurotransmitters. This can include depression, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, obesity,

carbohydrate craving, headaches, fibromyalgia, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease.Dose is 1-3 caps daily I the evening

HYPER-EX

Hyper-EX is a 300 mg. standardized extract of hypericum perforatum commonly known as St. JohnsWart.Hypericum has a multitude of uses. The most well studied are its antidepressant and antiviral activity.

Certain components of hypericum can inhibit both types A and B monoamine oxidase. Studies have shown

improvement in symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, apathy, anorexia, and depression with no side effects.

Studies at New YorkUniversityand the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israelshow hypericin (the mainactive constituent in hypericum) to have anti-retrovirus activity. Strong antiviral activity against Herpes

simplex, Influenza, Epstein-Barr and Vesicular Stomatitis has been shown. Hypericum has also shown

antibacterial activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria including Staphylococcus,

Streptococcus, Proteus, and Pseudomonas. Those taking hypericum may want to avoid foods and medications

that negatively interact with MAO inhibitors. Tyramine containing foods (cheese, beer, wine, fermented

foods), L-dopa, and 5-hydroxytryptophan should be avoided. Hypericum should be taken with meals.

IM-ENCAP

IM-ENCAP is an extremely effective immune system product combining herbal and glandular substances. It

contains the following herbs: Echinacea - known to activate the immune system and to have direct antiviral

and antibacterial properties; Baptista tinctoria - a traditional herbal synergist with Echinacea; Sambucus

(black elder) - used for the common cold and influenza; Eupatorium perfoliatum - a traditional botanical for

influenza with deep muscle aches and respiratory congestion; Paeonia - antibacterial herb effective against

Staph., Strep., E. Coli; and Taheebo - strong antiviral properties. IM-ENCAP is useful against acute colds,

flu, etc., and chronic viral conditions.

INDOLE 3 CARBINOL

This is a natural constituent of the cabbage family. It has potential to have anti-cancer activity according to

studies, especially estrogen related cancers. We have found to date that it has tested positive on all our patients

who preciously suffered from cancer. We also found that Glutathione also tests positive in these type cases. It

may also be useful in toxic metal cases since the cabbage family usually is but I have not tested it for that

function yet.

I like to dose 1 cap t.i.d.

IODINE-TYROSINE

Screen all patients suffering from fatigue, allergies or immune disorders, addictions, etc. for Iodine-Tyrosine.

It has both major components of thyroid hormone, and should be checked for use on patients with hypothyroid

symptoms. Usually these patients do not have a positive TL to the thyroid NL. We feel this is often because

the thyroid has the ability to function correctly, but lacks the raw materials to make adequate amounts of

hormones. Most women test for this or L-Tyrosine at one time in their treatment program.

IPRIFLAVONEThis soy derivative has been shown in double blind placebo control studies to halt bone loss in peri and post

menopausal women. Given in conjunction with calcium - as opposed to calcium with a placebo it also caused

increased bone density. It seems to work by inhibiting bone resorption and stimulating calcitonin secretion. It

also increases formation of new bone. We have found with AK tests that this supplement tests positive on

patients showing osteoporosis in bone scans.

IRON PICOLINATE

This product is useful in iron deficiency cases, as well as patients with retrograde pattern, sensitivity to

aldehydes, ammonia handling problems, and electromagnetic imbalance. Deficiency symptoms can also

include confusion, depression, dysphagia, headaches, and irritability.

ISATIS

Isatis root, both from a Kinesiological standpoint as well as patient response, performs wonderfully as an

antibacterial and antiviral. It is supposedly the most widely used antibiotic in Chinawith broad spectrumantibacterial activity. It also has been shown to kill leptospirosis and has been used successfully to treat

measles, mumps, encephalitis, influenza and hepatitis. It is antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, and enhances

phagocytosis. If both Isatis and Berbercap test equally effective I usually start with Berbercap and if the

problem hasn't resolved quickly (3 weeks for a chronic problem) I add Isatis with any supportive supplements

the patient might need (vitamins, minerals, etc.) It is very non toxic.

Phosphatidylserine Isolate has the beneficial effects of PhosSerine in a less expensive form. This is the major

acidic phospholipid in the human brain. It is theorized that it influences the fluidity of cell membranes, thus

enhancing cellular metabolism and communication. Oral supplementation of phosphatidylserine has been

shown to affect these as well as neurotransmitter release. Phosphatidylserine has been shown to possiblyprotect nerve cells from free radical damage (including that caused by acetaldehyde-which is high in

alcoholics and people with fungal/yeast problems), increase nutrition to the brain, and it readily crosses the

blood-brain barrier. Some companies have a calcium/magnesium chelate of serine that they falsely claim is

phosphatidylserine. Phosphatidylserine has also been shown to decrease SGPT and uric acid levels. It has

helped patients with senile dementia, mild cognitive decline, memory impairment, and depressive disorders.

We check for strengthening of a weak G-2 muscle or blocking of positive challenges to chemicals and metals,

especially in cases of senile dementia, but also in cases of chemical sensitivity and endocrine imbalance (due

to pituitary, pineal, or hypothalamus).

LACTOBACILLUS SPOROGENES

Lactobacillus sporogenes is a spore forming probiotic used in Japanfor over twenty years. For many years,Thorne resisted putting out a probiotic product as they felt that the quality did not meet their standards. They

have now found one that does. Lactobacillus Sporogenes has these advantages over Lactobacillus

acidophilus: 1) it survives manufacturing, shipping, and storage with no loss of viable organisms and does not

require refrigeration; 2) it survives stomach acid and reaches the small intestine with no loss of viable

organisms; 3) it produces L(+) lactic acid which is fully metabolized to glycogen, whereas lactobacillus

acidophilus produces L(-) lactic acid which is metabolized slowly and has the potential to lead to metabolic

acidosis. We prefer to test this product on a weak G-2 muscle a few weeks after placing patients on

antimicrobials to correct dysbiosis (SF722, Berbercap, Artecin, etc.), supplementing as long as indicated by

our tests on follow-up visits. During and after antibiotic use it may be useful as a preventative (along with

SF722).

Recommended dose is 1-3x daily with or without food.

L-LYSINE

Lysine is an essential amino acid. Deficiencies have been associated with decreased immune response, and

decreased thymus growth. Lysine is also a precursor of both carnitine and citrulline. Adequate pyridoxal-5-phosphate, iron, and vitamin C are needed for optimum absorption and metabolism of lysine. Arginine can

act as an antagonist to lysine since they have a common transport system. We are all aware that lysine

supplementation results in accelerated recovery from herpes simplex infection and suppression of recurrence

(we use it often in conjunction with Glycgel). Unchecked herpes simplex can lead to other diseases such as

trigeminal neuralgia, Bells palsy, cervical and oral cancer, etc. Copper toxicity can produce lysine deficiency

by leading to an overproduction of lysine oxidase. Stress can also produce a lysine deficiency. Lysine

decreases calcium loss in the urine and may be helpful in preventing osteoporosis. It can also be useful in

lead toxicity. We test lysine on all patients with herpes, osteoporosis tendencies, and lead toxicity, and if

appropriate we start with a dose of 1-3x /day.

L-TREPIN

This is an excellent liver support (includes 400mg SB313), also useful in allergic patients, endotoxemia, and

free radical problems.1 cap 3x daily

MAGNESIUM CITRATE

Magnesium Citrate is useful in treating chronic musculosketetal problems, spasms of smooth or skeletal

muscles, hypertension, PMS, prostaglandin imbalances, anxiety, confusion, depression, hyperactivity,

seizures, and tachycardia. It is also extremely effective in patients suffering from constipation.

MANGANESE PICOLINATE

Screen for Manganese Picolinate on all musculosketal problems with suspected ligamentous involvement. It

is necessary for carbohydrate metabolism, urea production (via the manganese containing enzyme arginase),

metabolism of acetylcholine, release of neurotransmitters by brain cells, pancreatic enzyme and saliva release,

dismutase, etc. Excessive calcium intake (via dairy products or supplementation) and excessive phosphate

(high meat and soft drink intake) reduces manganese availability and decreases absorption.

MEDICLEAR

This is Thorne's version of a non- dairy based meal replacement, hypo-allergenic diet formula, fasting drink,

etc. As many of you know, I treat some extremely sensitive/allergv patients. MediClear appears to be well

tolerated by many of these patients (including myself). I personally use it as a breakfast drink and all round

nutrient supplement and my family will add it to smoothies for extra supplementation. It tastes good, mixes

well, and is reasonably priced. It has no rice syrup solids. Just like Thorne's other products the minerals are in

highly available forms you don't see in similar products (picolinates, citrate-malate, ultra-chrome, etc.).

Vitamins include activated forms of B (R-5-P, P-5-P), methylcobalamin. There are some amino acids,

antioxidants, EFA's etc. Read the label for yourself. On most patients doing sauna therapy or Bikkrum yoga,

this is a great nutrient replacement therapy.

MEDISYSTEM

Medisystem is a two product (Medipro + Medibulk) combination that can be used for weight loss,

detoxification, unmasking of food hypersensitivities, etc. 'Medipro is taken in liquid as a meal replacement.

It is a hypoallergenic, high protein, vitamin-mineral supplement that satisfies hunger. It is similar to

Ultrabalance, but if you compare the two you will find that the minerals in Medipro are in picolinate and

citrate form which we feel are more bioavailable and the protein is less likely to cause allergic reactions. We

feel it is a more economical, higher quality product. Many patients go on Slimfast or some other similar

simple sugar and chemical laden weight loss product; Medisystem offers a very healthful, effective

alternative.

MELATONIN

With all the publicity surrounding this hormone, you should all be well aware of it. We have found it useful

in treating depression, panic attacks, sleep disorders, and menstrual irregularities. It is also a protective agent

against cancer, and can be used to reset the body's clock after traveling through many time zones. We havehad great success with it over the years, but were disappointed that we could not find a source free of stearic

acid and other contaminants. We now have such a source with Thorne's (and the price too is excellent).

When we muscle test for the need for melatonin it doesn't always strengthen a weak G-2 muscle, even when it

is needed. Sometimes the test has to be performed with the patients eyes closed before it will strengthen a

weak G-2. In those patients we supplement it at bedtime. When it strengthens in the clear we still give one at

bed and occasionally we also give one at sunset if we feel the symptoms warrant it. I personally like to

supplement with it for short periods only, to prevent glandular suppression. Pineal Plus does not overlap

melatonin in use though it does have pineal tissue in it. It is perhaps the only supplement on the market

effective in helping people who are sensitive to electromagnetic fields from power lines, TV's, computers, etc.

It also appears to strengthen and correct pineal defects.

MEMORACTIV

As you can tell from the name of this product it is formulated to enhance the function of our brain, especiallyour memory as we age. These structural and degenerative changes can be due to nutrient deficiencies, free

radical damage, environmental toxins, recreational and pharmaceutical drugs, emotional stress, junk food,

alcohol, tobacco, etc. Over time these have a cumulative effect and memory, concentration, etc. start to

decline. Memoractiv is designed as a protective agent though along with it we recommend ceasing bad

lifestyle choices. Memoractiv contains 1) Phosphatidylserine isolate - this nutrient helps optimize cognitive

function in the aging brain, and has a positive influence on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis 2) Gingko - a well

known herb to enhance memory, reaction time, cognition, etc., probably due to its antioxidant effects 3)

Acetyl-L-Carnitine - prevents oxidative damage and enhances cholinergic neurotransmission. It readily

META-BALANCE

This product I have also been waiting for. I find its primary use for hot flashes and other post menopausalsymptoms. I find it incredibly difficult to correct fungal problems in patients on Premarin or similar products

but some patients due to symptoms need to take something safe to control hot flashes. It contains Black

Cohash - a very effective phytoestrogen; HMC which improves vasomotor stability - a problem often in

menopause; Vitex Agnus Castus - which normalizes pituitary secretion; Angelica Sinesis (Dong Quai) - to

support female hormone balance: Dioscorea Villosa - for phytoprogesterones, Hypericum Perforatum - for its

mood elevating effects; and Ferulic Acid enhances endorphins, releases and balances autonomic nervous

system activities related to menopause.

META FEM

This is a multi-nutrient formula for women over forty. It has the ingredients of Basic Nutrients V with extra

calcium, magnesium, pyridoxal-5-phosphate. It also has dioscorea, dong quai, and HMC for optimal

hormonal support and osteoporosis prevention.

There are 240 capsules per bottle and the recommended dose is eight daily.

METAPLEX

Metaplex is a freeform multi amino acid supplement. Screen for Metaplex on all chronic patients. It is useful

in cases of toxic metal sensitivity. We also find it strengthens weak G-2 muscles on most patients who are

serious athletes; sometimes Medipro is given instead.

METHYLCOBALAMIN

This is another form of vitamin B12. Last summer I did a blinded study comparing it to other available forms

of B12 and from an AK standpoint it greatly outperformed other forms. At that point it has been added to

most of Thorne's products containing B12.

METHYL-GUARDMethyl-Guard was created to decrease homocysteine levels in the body which are a risk factor for

atherosclerotic heart disease. It may also enhance carnitine, CoQlO, taurine and pantethine levels as well as

SAM levels (possibly helping myelin formation). Methionine is de-methylated in the body into homocysteine

by two interconnected pathways. It, then must be re-methylated to produce S-adenosylmethionine (SAM)

which is the bodies "universal methyl donor". SAM is necessary in remyelinization, and also formation of

carnitine and CoQlO. If homocysteine is not re-methylated it can damage endothelial cells, interrupt collagen

synthesis and crosslinking, and cause heavy oxidant formation. The breakdown of homocysteine is also

necessary to produce taurine and cysteine (read on Taurine and Cysteplus for uses) which are essential for

proper body function. Methyl-Guard provides the essential cofactors necessary in the re-methylation and

trans-sulfation pathways of methionine so that homocysteine levels are decreased and SAM levels are

increased. It contains Betaine, Methylcobalamin, Folinic Acid and Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate.

Recommended dose is 2 capsules three times daily.

MODUCARE

This is one of the few products Thorne sells that they do not manufacture themselves though it does meet their

strict purity specifications and has no fillers like stearic acid, ascorbyl palmitate, etc. Moducare contains 20

mg. sterols and 200 mcg. sterolins in a base of rice flour. An article in the INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF

IMMUNOPHARMOCOLOGY using the same formulation showed a T-cell proliferation response from 20-

Also an increase in interleukin-2 and gamma interferon from 17-61%, an increase in natural killer cell

activity, anti-inflammatory response similar to cortisone, fever reducing properties similar to aspirin, anti-

hyperglycemic effects, and anti-edema effects have been shown. It increased DHEA levels and lowered the

cortisol: DHEA ratio and has effectively treated benign prostratic hypertrophy. These sterols are suppose to

act as immune system adaptogens and are most effective at quenching auto-immune response such as in

rheumatoid arthritis.

According to literature distributed in other countries, the following conditions have been shown to respond to

supplementation of sterols and sterolins: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, MS, Parkinson's, crohns, celiac, psoriasis,

diabetes (types I and II), asthma, eczema, chronic bacterial and viral infections.


MOLYBDENUM PICOLINATE

Molybdenum is an essential trace element that can help many patients. It is necessary for the production of at

least three important enzymes; a) xanthine oxidase - catalyzes xanthane to produce uric acid and hydrogen

peroxide; b) aldehyde oxidase (also needs riboflavin and iron) - breaking down aldehydes for urinary

excretion becomes more and more important these days; (Exposure can occur from a variety of sources:

formaldehyde and many other aldehydes in many of the clothes we wear, furniture we own, chipboard,

carpets, glues, perfumes, etc. These are inhaled and need to be eliminated, but aldehydes can also be

produced internally by bacteria, parasites, fungi, yeast, etc. If aldehydes aren't adequately eliminated brain

fog, fatigue, toxicity, organ damage, chemical sensitivities, etc. can result. Alcohol, both ingested and

produced internally, is broken down in the body to acetaldehyde which then enters this pathway.); c) sulfite

oxidase converts sulfites to sulfate which is excreted in the urine. This is implicated in some cases of asthma.

We check for molybdenum to strengthen a weak G-2 muscle and/or to block weaknesses caused by aldehyde

containing substances and alcohol.

MULTIZYME aka. PLANTIZYME

Multizyme is a plant based (fungal derived) enzyme mix of amylase, protease, lipase, cellulose, and lactase.

In some cases these enzymes are more effective than animal based products and they are active over a wider

pH range. Enzymes can be given with meals to enhance digestion or between meals in which case some can

enter the bloodstream to achieve other effects. When given with meals they have a sparing effect on the

pancreatic enzyme system, perhaps aiding in its regeneration. Clinical applications include: 1) steatorrhea and

mal-absorption syndromes; 2) lactose intolerance; 3) in large doses in between meals, it may be helpful in

improving blood flow through stenosed arterial segments; 4) the amylase can be successfully used with gluten

sensitive or celiac patients to render the gluten harmless to these patients; 5) aid in decreasing of food

sensitivities in some individuals. In patients with fungal sensitivities we advise caution in prescribing

products of fungal origin. In other patients, or post dysbiosis, this can be an extremely useful product.1 cap 3x daily with meals to aid digestion - for other conditions use your clinical judgment.

NEOCARDIA

A cardiovascular support product. It contains 1) Terminalia arjuna - which is an Ayurvedic medicine with a

long history of use as a heart tonic. It helps optimize left ventricular ejection fraction and stroke volume, 2)

Inula racemosa - which helps restore normal ECG patterns, 3) Astragulus - which increases cardiac output and

quenches free radicals, 4) Ammi visnaga - which has vasodilator properties, 5) Bromelain - to inhibit platelet

aggregation, as well as niacin and magnesium. We have also tested it on patients suffering from hypertension

and found it quite clinically useful.

Niasafe-600 has cholesterol and triglyceride lowering effects. It has been found to be effective in intermittentclaudication and Raynauds Disease. Niacin in high doses often causes flushing reactions which can be rather

unpleasant; to avoid this, time released niacin is often used. Recently, however, the literature has reported

quite a few cases of severe liver damage due to time released niacin. An alternative form of time release, the

niacin ester lnositol Hexaniacinate (which is composed of six molecules of niacin surrounding one molecule

of inositol), releases niacin slowly and has the same hypocholesterimic activity as niacin (perhaps even

stronger), but does not cause any apparent liver toxicity or flushing.

This product is a bioflavinoid with strong anti-oxidant properties. As a free radical scavenger, it is 50x more

powerful than vitamin E and 20x more than vitamin C. It is water soluble and extremely bioavailable (it is an

extract of grape seed). It lowers the permeability of blood vessel walls and decreases capillary fragility, and

has thus been successfully used to treat varicose veins, retinal degeneration, bruising, diabetic retinopathy,

pyorrheas and other conditions. It also inhibits histidine decarboxylase, thus aiding in ulcers, allergy

Pantethine is the stable disulfate form of pantetheine, the active form of pantothenic acid. It converts easier to

coenzyme A which is essential for energy metabolism. It has been shown to decrease serum triglycerides and

cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol levels. It accelerates beta-oxidation of fatty acids and can reduce

lipid deposition in arterial walls. It is also anti-arrhythmic. Deficiencies of pantothenic acid can lead tomalaise, abdominal distress, burning cramps, leg cramps, heel tenderness, insomnia, fatigue.

This product is for normalizing intestinal permeability. Intestinal permeability is often altered by dysbiosis,

This is an anti-migraine product. It is felt that migraines may be due to constriction and subsequent relaxation

of central vessels. This product which is a standardized extract of Petasites hybridus or Butterbur has anti-

inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and cerebral vascular stabilizing effects. Butterbur has an affinity for central

blood vessels and is shown to inhibit their contraction. It has been used successfully in Europefor over 25years and has been proven effective in placebo-controlled, double-blinded studies. It also may decreaseleukotriene production, protects the gastrointestinal tract and may be quite helpful in asthma and bronchitis

patients.

DL-PHENYLALANINE

This essential amino acid is a precursor to catecholamines. It has been shown useful in many cases of

depression, can be an effective pain reliever, and may be useful in treating PMS. Because D-phenylalanine

can tie up enkephalinase, thus prolonging the life of enkephalins, it can be very useful in treating addictions.

Addictive foods, tobacco, caffeine, drugs, etc., show up different ways in muscle testing. Some weaken a

strong indicator muscle, while others will strengthen a weak G-2 due to the substances temporary stimulating

properties. Others will only weaken while the patient TL's the adrenal NL's. With any addictive food or

substance, it is advisable to check for DL-phenylalanine to negate the weakness (or strength as in the 2nd

example). Supplement if positive. Of course we also neurologically desensitize the patient.

PHOSPHATIDYL CHOLINE

Phosphatidyl Choline is a very useful product in our practice. It is lipotrophic - removes triglycerides from

the liver thus preventing fatty liver. Research shows a possible use in hypothyroid patients, it acts as a source

of methyl groups in the synthesis of methionine, helps dispose of LDL cholesterol and can improve both

memory and cognition (presumably because it increases brain levels of acetycholine). We test it on all

patients for strengthening of a weak G-2 muscle. About 30% of our patients undergoing some type of

emotional recall treatment (psychotherapy, NET, spectra view, etc.) benefit from phosphatidyl choline, though

it may only show in testing when the patient is stressed by thinking of the event or viewing the proper

frequency.

PHYTISONEThis supplement is formulated to help the adrenals response to stress. In AK, hypoadrenia has been talked

about for many years. The adrenals are bombarded daily to emotional stress, refined foods, caffeine,

pollutants, microorganisms, allergens, etc. and the results are a myriad of common symptoms such as

headaches, craving sweets, fatigue, postural hypotension, light sensitivity, chronic low back pain, etc., etc.

Phytisone has eleutherococcus, panax ginseng, and ashwagandha which all enhance peoples' response to

check it during acute viral and/or bacterial conditions or when we suspect abnormal gut flora, immunedeficiency, etc.

his product is formulated as an anti-inflammatory for acute and chronic conditions. It has tested on many of

my patients with long-standing musculoskeletal conditions as well as new injuries. It contains 1) Boswellia

serrata (Frankincense) Boswellia blocks the synthesis of 5-lipoxygenase products and leukotriene B4. It also

supports the pituitary and pineal glands 2) Curcuma longa - this is a potent antioxidant and reduces pro-

inflammatory prostaglandins, leukotrienes, etc. 3) Picrorhiza kurroa - inhibits pro-inflammatory

prostaglandins, thromboxane A2, and is hepatoprotective and an antioxidant 4) Bromelain - also reduces most

of the above mentioned pro-inflammatory products and promotes wound healing.

PIC-MINS

This product is very similar to Trace-Mins but the minerals are in picolinate form (except for chromium,

which is in the same form as Ultrachrome). Pic-Mins is very useful for people with musculosketetal injuriesto help rebuild muscles and ligaments. It will also neutralize some positive AK tests for chemical and metal

hypersensitivity. We test on all patients who test negative on Basic Nutrients, Biomins, Citramins and Trace-

Mins and supplement accordingly.

PLANTI-OXIDANTS

This product contains 5 strong anti-oxidants of plant origin: ginkgo biloba extract, silybum marianum extract,

oligomeric proanthocyanidins, green tea extract, and quercitin chalcone. Oxidative stress and free radical

damage effects most of our chronically ill patients to varying degrees. Just like Throne's product ANTI-

OXIDANTS this is also a broad spectrum product with strong anti-oxidant properties. Being solely derived

from plant sources, it can work well in the more vitamin intolerant patient as well as in your not so sensitive

patient. We test it against a weak G-2 muscle and our starting dose is one capsule three times daily. Most of

the individual constituents are written up in other places in this handout. Ginkgo listed under GB24, silybum

under SAT, oligomeric proanthocyanidins under OPC, green tea extract under GT-EX, and quercitin under

Quercetone.

POTASSIUM CITRATE

This is a useful supplement for many patients with hypertension, acne, cognitive impairment, edema,

depression, high cholesterol and muscle weakness.

This product is a combination of two botanical extracts: saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) and pygeum (Prunus

prostatic hyperplasia. Serenoa repens contains plant sterols which block the prostate steroid receptors

responsible for stimulating prostate enlargement. Pygeum contains anti-inflammatory fatty acid esters which

are specific to the prostate (ferulic acid esters of n-docosanol).

This will often test to negate food sensitivities, prostaglandin imbalances, fluid retention, recurrent

QC NASAL SPRAY

This is a homeopathic product I have had the privilege of experimenting with for the past year. The

ingredients are Quercetin Chalcone 2x and Euphorbium 3x. It is for temporary relief of allergic rhinitis,

inhalant allergies and all the related symptoms. Quercetin blocks histamine release and inhibits

cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase. Personally I find it has been a useful supplement. I must emphasize that

this ideally should just be part of a comprehensive program. If you clear dysbiosis, treat food sensitivities,

nutrient deficiencies, etc. as we teach - you will be correcting the underlying causes of these symptoms. I usethe spray early on in severe cases to bring symptomatic relief while we are treating underlying causes and

during those occasional flare-ups afterwards when there has been some recidivism in findings. For patients

unwilling to go through a more comprehensive program it is a much safer alternative than OTC preparations.

QUERCETONE

Quercitin is a bioflavinoid with many valuable properties. Up until now the quercitins available only had a 1-

2% absorption rate as well as possible toxic side effects. Quercitin Chalcone, a new product by Thorne,

appears to be much more bioavailable (perhaps a 50% absorption rate) and non-toxic than previously

available quercitins. Quercitin is a potent inhibitor of mast cell and basophil degranulation thus greatly

decreasing histamine release and its resultant inflammatory and allergic symptoms. Quercitin's membrane

stabilizing effect decreases neutrophil liposomal enzyme secretion, preventing lipid peroxidation and

leukotiene and prostaglandin release. It also has a sparing effect an Vitamin C and epinephrine, improves

pancreatic islet cell function, and can help prevent diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy. Quercitin has also

exhibited strong anti-viral activity, and research suggests it is a suppresser of tumor formation and a useful

item for cancer prevention. This is a product that can be useful in most allergic patients, patients with

inflammatory conditions, etc.

We usually start with a dose of one capsule three times daily.

RHODIOLA

Rhodiola is an adaptogen from Russia. Effects include normalizing neurotransmitter levels, improving sleepand increasing energy levels. We have found in a good percentage of patients that it will negate a positive

adrenal TL and being an adaptogen it should be effective in both hyper and hypo adrenia.

S.A.T.

S.A.T. is a wonderful product for the liver. It is both hepatoprotective and hepatoregenerative and is

composed of three herbs: a)Silybum marianum (milk thistle) - milk thistle is an incredible herb which

prevents glutathione depletion in the liver caused by alcohol, chemicals, etc., inhibits leukotrienes andprostagiandin synthesis during inflammation, and prevents free radical damage as well as promoting the

production of new liver cells to replace old damaged ones (we find milk thistle in this form to be more

effective than in liquid tincture) b) Curcuma (Tumeric),- Tumeric is a potent anti-inflammatory agent (as

effective as cortisone in acute inflammation) which prevents increases in SGOT and SGPT in inflammation

and has hepatoprotective effects similar to milk thistle; c) Cynara Scolymus (Artichoke) - Artichoke is another

hepatoprotective and hepatoregenerative herb which in some cases has cholesterol and triglyceride lowering

effects (we use S.A.T. on most patients at some point during their course of treatment - it usually shows after

we have cleared fungal and food sensitivity involvement)

SERENOA GELCAPS

This product contains 85% liposterolic extract of saw palmetto. It has anti-androgen, anti-edema, and immune

stimulating effects. The main therapeutic application is in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia

(BPH). BPH is characterized by increased urinary frequency, reduced force of urination, and night time

awakening to urinate. By preventing conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone, serenoa can alleviate

the symptoms of BPH. This, in combination with resolution of dysbisosis, food, chemical, and metal

sensitivity/toxicity, nutrient replenishment and good basic AK, can lead to permanent resolution of BPH. To

recreate this dose of active ingredient in a saw palmetto tincture would require too high an amount to be

practical, thus this standardized extract is much preferred.

This was formulated to optimize nutritional levels of patients with cancer and reduce adverse effects of

standard treatment. Possibly it can increase the success rate of conventional therapy. It is not a substitute for

This product has the same hepatic supporting herbs as SAT (written up in this list) with the addition of

picorhiza. Picorhiza has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, choloretic, and liver regenerative effects.


T-ASTHMATICA PLUS

This is an herb from India. In a report in Annals of Allergy (Vol. 30, July 1972), 56.3 percent of 103 patients

treated had complete to moderate relief of symptoms after only one week of treatment. It is a wonderful herb

to try on your asthmatic patients. It is imperative to also treat dysbiosis and food sensitivities on these

patients.

TAURINE

Taurine is an amino acid needed by many individuals. It is the second most important inhibitoryneurotransmitter in the brain. It has both anti-anxiety and anti-convulsive properties. It is useful in treating

chemical sensitivities and should also be checked on patients when AK findings indicate involvement of

chlorine. It can be helpful in depression, hypertension, gout, and obesity.

Thiocid and Thiocid-300

Thiocid contains 100mg. of Alpha-Lipoic Acid, thiocic 300 has 300mg. Taken orally it is rapidly converted to

DHLA which has strong anti-oxidant activity in both water and fat soluble domains. Besides neutralizing

reactive oxygen species, it also regenerates reduced glutathione and vitamin C. It is also a good product for

metal toxicity especially cadmium, copper, and mercury. It can complement mercury chelators such as

Metaplex, Captomer, Glutathione, Cysteplus, and Salix, as it increases mercury biliary excretion. It may also

be indicated in hepatic disease and diabetic neuropathy. In people with thiamine deficiencies (alcoholics,

etc.), BComplex#l should be given simultaneously.Recommended dose is anywhere between 2-4 daily.

TOXIC RELIEF BOOSTER

This product contains magnesium citrate, selenium picolinate, tumeric, milk thistle-phosphatidylcholine

complex, and opc extract. We have found that when chemically sensitive patients take this product one hour

before and one hour after they know they will be in an environment they will be sensitive to, it greatly lessens

the symptoms they will experience. If the exposure is one they did not anticipate, taking 2 after the exposure

often helps. It is also quite useful for anyone on a "cleansing" program involving saunas, exercise, etc. It

helps metabolize fat stored toxins released into the bloodstream.

Dosage for this use is one cap t.i.d.

This product is an excellent trace mineral. It tests a lot in musculoskeletal cases, especially with ligamentous

involvement, and also for heel pain.

TRAUMOGEN

Designed to accelerate healing after physical trauma. Also a great product to begin 1 week prior to surgery

and continue post surgery as long as needed. Contains glucosamine, gambir, bromelain, glutamine, C, P-5P,

Zn, Mn, Cu.

L-TYROSINE

We screen all patients suffering from fatigue, allergies or immune disorders, addictions, etc. for L-Tyrosine.

It is necessary for both norepinephrine and enkephalin synthesis. Because of this, many patients with food

sensitivities, low energy, low pain threshold, depression, addiction to foods, chemicals, drugs, etc. are low in

tyrosine. Almost every environmentally ill patient tests for this or Iodine-Tyrosine at some time in their

treatment program. Most overweight patients benefit from it and approximately 40% of my female patients

ages 30-50 test positive. It often brings dramatic clinical improvement.

ULTIMATE E

This is a product of mixed tocopherols. Personally I have found that in AK testing many patients prefer mixed

tocopherols to straight vitamin E. Studies suggest that mixed tocopherols can aid in arterial plaque reversal,

lower cholesterol, cancer inhibition, and are a stronger anti-oxidant than just d-alpha tocopherol. I think you

will find many patients will test positive on this product.

Dose is 1-2 daily.

ULTRACHROME

Until now, chromium picolinate was the preferred form of chromium to use because as a picolinate it had

increased absorption from the gastrointestinal tract compared to chromium in other forms. It had

approximately the same insulin potentiating effect as other chromiums but because of the increased uptake it

performs better. Ultrachrome appears to have increased absorption but at the same time its insulinpotentiating effect is 3x that of the other chromiums, including picolinate. We find it tests positive in more

cases than picolinate does and we use it for the same type patients we would use other forms of chromium.

UNDECYN

Undecyn is a potent antifungal composed of: 1) undecylenic acid (active ingredient in SF722), converted to a

salt form with bentonite added to absorb endotoxins; 2) grapefruit seed extract for its antifungal and

antiparisite activity and 3) HCL for optimal pH effectiveness. 4) bentonite to absorb endotoxin and

mycotoxins.

URISTATIN

It is fairly common in my practice to have female patients who suffer from chronic recurrent urinary tractinfections, cystitis, etc. These women are constantly taking prescription drugs such as Bactrim or

Macrodantin despite the myriad of side effects, which encourages both growth of resistant strains of bacteria

and also fungi. The herbal combination in Uristatin is very effective for these type problems, but without the

side effects of the medications. Uristatin has 4 herbs: 1) Uva Ursi - this herb has been shown to be effective
