ISSUE NO. 4 20th March 2017

Dear School Community, What a busy few weeks we’ve had at TPS and the final two weeks of this term may prove to be even

busier.

Apology to Student Leaders In the rush to complete the last newsletter, I accidentally left off the names of two of our wonderful

student leaders. My apologies to Karli and Navleen who are our Recreational Leaders for 2017.

Annual General Meeting and 2017 School Council The Annual General Meeting will be held prior to next week’s School Council meeting on Wednesday

29th March 2017. The Annual Report will be presented at this meeting and we invite members of the

school community to attend the Annual General Meeting portion of this evening.

Directly following the AGM, the new School Council will meet for the first time to elect the 2017

office bearers.

The timing of the meetings on Wednesday 29th March 2017 will be:

5:15pm Annual General Meeting—all parents welcome

5:45pm School Council Meeting—School Council members only

The 2017 School Council members are:

Our

thanks to Kiymet Ozbilgin and Melissa Ascenzo for nominating for the vacant parent positions on

School Council . Thanks also to Jane Compton-Robins for filling the 12 month casual vacancy that

was created due to a parent resignation from School Council

Attendance –‘Every Day Counts’

At Thomastown Primary School we are committed to providing your child with an excellent

education. The foundation of an excellent education begins with all students attending school each

and every day. Regular school attendance is vital and missing school days can have a big impact on a

child’s future. Missing one day a fortnight will equate to missing four full weeks by the end of the year.

Each day a student misses school puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes.

If for any reason your child must be absent from school, parents or guardians are required to

provide written notification, stating the reason for their child’s absence. This information will be re-

tained by the teacher and archived by the school. This is a DET requirement. If you are having attend-

ance issues with your child, please inform your child’s teacher so we can work together to get your

child to school every day.

P.E. Report Monday

20th March 2017 Excellence in P.E. Award

In Week 6, for the first time this year, we had a clear winner……….by half a point!

The winner of the “Excellence in PE Award” was: Prep V.

Congratulations Prep V. Well done! Cross Country Training - Wednesday 17th May This week I will be conducting training sessions for Cross Country. Students who are interested in trying-out for the team, can join the training sessions on the soccer pitch on Monday mornings before school at 8:30am, and Friday lunchtimes at 1:30pm. Please eat your lunch after Friday’s training session! Children turning 10 this year will be required to run 2km, while children turning 11 or 12 this year, you will be competing in a distance race of 3km.

An early start to training is needed so that children can continue to build-on their fitness over the term break.

Reminder Quite a few sporting items are being handed-in to me at the end of recesses and lunchtimes. This is an indication that students are not looking after the equipment they are taking out at with them. Please make sure that you take back inside any equipment you take out with you. Students should never come inside to help themselves to any sporting equipment I might have outside the library, as this equipment is needed for my lessons.

And remember: You don’t have to be perfect when

it comes to sport and fitness…..you just have to make progress!

HELP URGENTLY NEEDED We urgently need volunteers to keep our canteen open for lunchtime sales. Children love to see someone from their family helping at school and it is also a way of meeting other parents. If you could possibly help weekly, fortnightly or monthly, please con-tact Anne at the office on 9465 2225.
