“with a background in architecture, research, editing and graphic design, my main interest lies within the sociocultural context. by having a proactive attitude, rather than just being reactive, it is here where the potential lies to create relevant spatial designs that involve and connect people. it is my aspiration to contribute to the design and sustainability of projects with such a social and cultural significance.
next to architecture, over the years i have developed a strong passion for other creative disciplines like graphic design, editing and photography. provoked by possibilities and fed by passion i thrive on finding solutions for any given design challenge.”

Hatching, the origination of a city is a theoretical project executed by Menis Architects for the Moroccan pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2014, Fundamentals, curated by Rem Koolhaas. the theme for the Moroccan pavilion, entitled Fundamental(ism)s, is based upon Morocco’s role as an urban and architectural laboratory in the twentieth century. being part of a small design team we realized the project in Italy, by making a large sculptural model and supporting images, as well as editing an explanatory video and setting up the exhibition in the pavilion.

Re-branding Lance & Donny
Graphic design05/2018identity, logo, re-branding, artworklink: https://soundcloud.com/lancedonny
for the DJ duo Lance & Donny i was asked to re-brand their corporate identity, for the upcoming summer season. main task was to re-design their existing logo with their characteristic bunny, to give them a new and fresh appearance for the season to come. adding a new color to the logo gives it a new appeal and by keeping the logo minimal, it fits the music style Lance & Donny represent and this way the logo can easily be incorporated in artwork and posters for all their events.

Transformation Nimeto
Architectuur MAKEN06/2018entry for the transformation and extension of trade school ‘Nimeto’ Utrecht, the NethrelandsVakschool Nimetolink: http://architectuurmaken.nl/projecten/vakschool-nimeto/
Nimeto is a trade school with a hands-on approach for creative young people, and the building is a reflection of exactly that. in this proposal, through efficient use of the current structure of the building, the desired program can be organized within the existing skin so that additional volumes can be kept to a minimum. as a freelance designer i aided the small design team in the final stages of this project, finetuning the conceptual ideas, thinking about how to represent these and producing final graphics for presentation.
activities:- assisting in the design process- ideas on graphical presentation - visualisations (mainly Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)
project:- location: Utrecht, the Netherlands- education, office, cultural- competition entry- ca. 10.000m2

Living in the dunes
Groosman03/2018winning entry for a series of apartments and villaslocated in the dunes around MonsterMonster, the NetherlandsMonsterlink: http://groosman.com/
winning entry of Groosman for the competition for 240 dwellings in a unique landscape; the rural dune landscape nearby the sea at Monster. next to the extensive landscape design, main idea is to respect the quality of the location and not to fill it with housing blocks. literally interweaving the dwellings with the dunes, only half of the program is visible whereas parking facilities and parts of the program are situated beneath parts of the dunes. together with a flexible facade system, different types of outdoor spaces and co-creation with future inhabitants, a diverse and playful project was proposed.

entry for a vision for a series of luxury apartments directly at the Maas river. it concerns an ambitious vision with two slim towers designed with a panoramic view over the city of Rotterdam. with a flexible and modular conscruction principle it is possible to meet the clients’ desires regarding the floor plan. with a small design team we delivered this vision and architectural proposal, presenting a high ambition in the fields of circularity, co-creation, climate and ecology.

entry of cuypers & Q architects for the competition for the transformation and extension of the new arts campus of the Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp. the new arts campus should provide space for 600 students and staff for three academic masters courses in visual arts (graphic design, jewelry design and autonomous arts) and a professional bachelor education in photography. an open character with an abundance of light in all the working spaces are key to the design. as part of the design team my main responsability was in drawing all floor plans (-1 up to +5), visualizing the interventions graphically (extractions and additions) and assisting in creating final images for presentation.

Three villas in Lijiang, China
Menis Architects10/2014proposal for three private villas; water villa, hill villa and tree villaLijiang, ChinaThree villas, Lijiang, Chinalink: http://menis.es/three-villas/
in the design process for three private villas in the town of Lijiang, China, three distinct concepts were developed. the water villa as a private home, the hill villa as a private club and the tree villa as a guest house. the private home, the club and the guest house all gained a luxurious atmosphere with three distinctive characters. the project was published and presented by two books; the black book conveying the atmosphere of the entire project from concept development to interior - and product design, and the white book, containing the project explanation and all technical drawings and details. as part of the design team I mostly worked on the water villa and was in charge of editing the two books for publication and presentation.

since a few years i started to have a stronger interest for photography - shooting the right image at the right time. where it started as a common thing during my first travels, it became more and more an objective to capture the view or moment i was experiencing in the best way possible. the selected photos showcased in these pages are captured from trips to Valencia, Mexico, Tenerife and Italy.

during my creative studies and career i became passionate about certain themes. in the end, i have selected five images of these themes that express my fascinations, inspirations, ambitions and imaginations. it is my aspiration to be actively involved in these five themes.
Venice biennale of architecture. working months on this project in both Spain and Italy has been the greatest experience so far in my architectural career. enjoyed it fully from the first brainstorm session until the opening of the exposition in Venice.
small scale architecture. this image captures one favorite field
of mine within the architecture scene; small scale architecture. (temporary)
pavilions for e.g. musea, festivals or art exhibitions often fulfil an interesting
role in the sociocultural context. this temporary project by Hugh and
Howard Miller shows great social design in its direct context.
photography. since a few years i started to have a stronger interest
for photography - shooting the right image at the right time. this image is one of my favorites, taken in Mexico.
fascinations, inspirations and imaginations. small scale architecture, graphic design, editing, exhibitions, Venice biennale of architecture, travelling, photography

graphic design, editing and exhibitions. next to architecture i have always had an interest in graphics. graphic design, exhibitions, writing texts and editing layouts are other passions of mine.
travelling. seeing and experiencing different places and cultures gives me the drive and
inspiration to see things objectively and relatively, to enjoy life at fullest.
