Finally arrived in Thailand...

We look back on a beautiful commissioning service on the 13th of January. It was good to praise God for his goodness. The amount of of people that attended the service, the spoken words, the cards, the music and messages were encouraging. We want to thank everyone who contributed. On the 17th of January we have said goodbye to our family. It was a mixed feeling because we were looking forward to start the work in Thailand and on the other hand it was difficult to say goodbye. In Singapore we have stayed at the headquarters of OMF. Everyday we started with a testimony, prayer and worship time together with all the attending OMF staff members and other candidates like us. It was an encouragement to hear God’s faith-fulness through their struggles. After that we had lectures. The content of the lectures was about the financial structures within OMF, how to live healthy in Asia, security and the language and culture training. Maybe you wonder where Tim was during the lectures. Within OMF they have a good organized children program which is called ‘Kidzone’. Every day Tim went and chose is own ‘granny’ who took care for him. There were enough toys like a tent, an outside bad and big cars to drive in. Because of the structure and the same staff every day Tim adapt very well. After Singapore we flew to Thailand with mixed feelings. It felt like going back home to the Netherlands after a long holiday in Asia but we were on our way to our ‘new, unknown house’.

From the Home Team

The moment we all look forward to was finally there. We look back on a beautiful commission service. After services we had a meal and we have said good-bye to Thomas and Cobi. We ware very thankfull of all the warm support in the recent period from the Sion-church-people, friends and family. So many people have committed themselves; recently there was a pancake activity from the church of Apeldoorn. We experience this as very encouraging. As Home Team we now all have a ‘own’ day when we do our prayers for Thomas, Cobi and Tim. Some of us cook that day Asian food, to remember to pray. We would ask you to keep also praying. Pray that Thomas Cobi and Tim may settle down in their new home country. On the front of this newsletter you’ll find the adres of their new house. Are you sending them a postcard? We also like to invite you to the OMF Mission Event on the 13the of April in Voorthuizen (NL). The theme is: ‘When doors open…’. There’s a lot to do for young and old. You can find more information on the website of OMF.

The weekend we stayed over at OMF Thailand Head-quarters in Bangkok. We had to do a lot of arrange-ments and signing for our visa. On Monday we trav-elled to Lopburi. The leaders of the language school help us with a lot of things. After two hours in the car we were standing in a peaceful street with a small but big furnished house. In this house we will live for the coming year during our lan-guage and culture study. We were so enthusiastic to have our own place that we unpacked every-thing quickly. Since a few days it feel more and more like home. De coming weeks will be about finding out how to live in Thailand. What is a good price for our shoppings and the food we buy? How does the public transport works? Besides that the language and culture training will start as well. We will have one to one training with a Thai teacher and Tim will go to the nursery close to the training centre. We are not the only ones, every Thursday we have a shared lunch with fellow languages learners. On Wednesday we have men fellowship night and on Thursday the women fellowship night. About our live in Lopburi we will we share a bit more in our next newsletter, when we have survived the first im-pressions!

Peace and blessing, Thomas, Cobi en Tim
