Thistle Class page 8
Do you remember
when I played you
“We’ll Meet Again”
and “The White
Cliffs of Dover” in
class when we did
our topic “A Child’s
War”? I read that
the lady that sang
them, Dame Vera
Lynn, is 103 now!
Bletchley Park, once the
top-secret home of the
World War Two
Codebreakers, is now a
vibrant heritage
attraction. Did you see
their great VE resource
pack including home-
made bunting and
delicious recipes?

Hello again Thistle Class. Have you had a good week?
Did you watch the VE Day 75th anniversary celebrations on
television recently? I saw Churchill’s speech and wartime
songs. Here are a couple of pictures of my mum from 1945:
one sitting on her mum’s lap at their VE day street party (3rd
from right), and the other one outside the bomb shelter her
dad built in their back garden in East London.
Here are some things you could do this week…
High School transition Do you have a special friend or two you’d like to be paired with at high school, from our school or elsewhere? Email
me with details at [email protected] and I’ll ask your next teachers to arrange it, if possible.
Non-screen ideas Need to get off the screen? Look at the pages from “Pobble” in our class section for 50 ideas of other things to do.
Reading Bee Read a brilliant book recently? Using the Reading Bee page as a guide, write a review for me to publish on the website.
Leavers’ Year Book Email your entry and photo (in school uniform please) to [email protected]
Thistle Class Gallery Done some work? Got some news? Email it to me and I’ll put some on the Thistle Class Gallery page next week.

Design a poster to encourage people to adopt a healthy habit to strengthen their heart and/or lungs. It could be a
poster to promote healthy eating, exercise or to discourage people from smoking.
Email me your poster at [email protected] . It would be great to see them!
