Good Time to Review the Handbook with Your Students

In the first semester, the Associate Principals host meetings with students from each grade level to remind them to stay focused on graduation and to respect themselves and others by avoiding behaviors that lead to disciplinary action. Now would be a good time to review with your students the rules found in the student handbook. You can find a copy of the handbook at the following webpage http://utica.ss9.sharpschool.com/handbook. Please make sure you

review the attendance policy with them as well as the unacceptable behaviors that begin on page 19. Attendance and good discipline are key to an effective learning environment.

As part of our Day 1 Initiative, remind your student to be Upstanders. Upstanders are students that stand up against bullying and the use of language that is derogatory towards any particular person or group. Stevenson should be a place that ALL students feel safe to attend and learn.

Also as you are aware, we briefly evacuated the building Friday morning when the fire alarm was activated. After determining that there was no fire or safety concern, students were brought back into the building. Any student found involved in activating the alarm will be appropriately disciplined. Please take this opportunity to speak with your child about the need to tell a responsible adult if
