PASTORAL CARE AND WELLBEING

Dear Families,

Student, staff and family wellbeing is a focus and priority here at Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School. To keep you all informed, we are providing weekly updates regarding wellbeing, including support policy and procedures that we have in place here at Holy Spirit.

In November 2018, the Australian Government, in partnership with Beyond Blue, launched Be You, an online platform that provides educators with tools and strategies to support the mental health and wellbeing in our school. More information about this will be included in our newsletter each week.

Our Vision and Mission Statement is central to our school when implementing policy and procedures.

We encourage you to take the time each week to discuss this as a family. Please do not hesitate in speaking with classroom teachers or members of our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Team for clarification.

Kind Regards,

Sinèad, Dell, Mary, Brittany & Paula Pastoral Care & Wellbeing Team

Holy Spirit Vision and Mission Statement Holy Spirit Catholic community is inspired by the gift of the Catholic story and tradition, encouraging all members to live, to love and to grow in Christ.

Holy Spirit Catholic School is committed to developing the fundamental value of each person. Through sharing and living the Catholic story and tradition, we foster learning that enables students, families, school and community to engage in a collaborative partnership for a life-long journey of education.

Our students learn in an atmosphere which integrates Gospel values with their life and learning. They are valued as unique individuals working to achieve their potential - spiritually, academically and socially.

Our teachers are committed to providing a quality Catholic education based on Gospel values in partnership with the parish and parents/carers. Their priority is to support students achieving their potential.

Update 2:

Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Action Team Action Teams are a central part of Be You. They help to build momentum and enthusiasm in our learning community, bringing people together to create meaningful and long-lasting change for children and young people.

All staff at Holy Spirit are encouraged to register for Be You. It is completely free, and available to every educator, early learning service and school in Australia. Our action team members are all registered in Be You and are currently working through the framework, identifying the needs of our school at present.

Very soon our action team will be inviting staff, families and children to participate in a Be You Survey. Be You Surveys allow us to ask educators, families, children and young people to share their voice about mental health and wellbeing, and their understanding of our approach to building a mentally healthy learning community. All survey responses are confidential with no names appearing.

Be You surveys also provide important information to inform and support whole-setting continuous improvement frameworks and to help with strategic planning.

All staff are actively involved in supporting our and fostering wellbeing across the school. Our action team, meet twice a term to discuss and provide direction to our school community.

More information about this will be provided next week. Thanks for taking the time to read

PARENT PICK UP & DROP OFF AREA We have been experiencing a number of traffic flow issues with our Parent Pick Up and Drop off area at afternoon dismissal. These issues are currently leading to traffic congestion on Gsell street, traffic jams in the Parent Pick Up area and dangerous collection of students.

In order to assist with overcoming these issues you can help in the following ways:

Do not park in front of the school automatic gate prior to the opening of the gates of an afternoon.

Do not park your car in the parent pick up area and leave your vehicle there.

Do not park or sit idle on the road that runs through our parent pick up area

If all the waiting bays are full please drive through and park in the visitor car park or drive around again.

Thank you for your cooperation with this important issue that relates to the work health and safety of the children and staff here at Holy Spirit.

VACATION CARE

The Vacation Care form is now available from the front office, the OSHC building and on the school website. Download a copy here

This form is due back to the front office by 3pm, Friday the 12th of June.

Please note that the Australian Government’s Early Childhood and Education Care Relief Package (ECEC Relief Package) ends on Sunday 28th June 2020. From Monday 29th June 2020, Child Care Subsidy payment will resume.

Please be aware that when our Vacation Care service begins on Monday 29th June 2020, parents must pay gap fees for this service.

If you are eligible to receive payments from Centrelink, such as Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and Family Tax Benefit (FTB), you may be asked to provide your family income estimate for the 2020-21 financial year to Services Australia.

You will need to do this even though you aren’t currently paying child care fees. This is because Centrelink will use this estimate to work out how much CCS and FTB you will be entitled to.

To update your family income to ensure you receive Child Care Subsidy, please go to Services Australia website and update here .

OSHC NOTICE

After School Care is reaching full student capacity levels. If capacity levels are reached and you book your child into ASC, we

will notify you by email that a position isn’t available and you booking will be put on a waitlist. We apologise for the inconvenience,

however, OSHC is required to function within adult to child ratios during this period.

While we have capped numbers at OSHC, bookings made through the app and email from Friday 2:30pm to Monday 7:30am requesting Before School Care or After School care for a Monday (or Tuesday

after a Monday public holiday) will not be honoured as availability for places cannot be confirmed.
