This week we are going on a new adventure, somewhere dark and mysterious. We are going to need some special skills and an awesome uniform this week. Literacy week beg 29th June

Mon It’s your first day at NASA (I hope you have your space badge on). You look around at all the pictures on the wall of people in space, discovering new planets and then you see it. The first man to walk on the moon and make history. Neil Armstrong. Your task: Watch the powerpoint presentation about Neil Armstrong and write a fact sheet about him.

Tues While talking with the Director of NASA, he explains that people do not want to become astronauts any more. He tells you that the job means that you are away for a long time and there is lots of training to do. He also tells you that becoming an astronaut is one of the best jobs in the world. Exploring the vast galaxy and discovering new planets. Your task: Design a poster to encourage other people to want to be an astronaut.

Wed While you are traveling through the galaxy, you think about the people down on Earth reading about your mission in the newspaper. You wonder what they might be saying and what stories they are printing. Your task: Look through the newspaper power point. Using the newspaper article, highlight all of the parts that show you it is a newspaper. Then, write your own newspaper story. Make sure it has a headline, sub headings, paragraphs and all of the things you include in your writing. Think about what kind of story would be printed about your mission to Mars.

Thurs You’re floating through space and find yourself drawn to the giant red ball floating in front of you. You gasp at its beauty. You push the intercom button that lets you talk straight to the NASA base in America. “Apollo One to Houston, we made it, over” you exclaim. “Houston to Apollo One, we have a visual. What is your estimated lading time? Over.” You are floating towards Mars. You will be the first humans to land on this planet. When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon he said “this is on small step for man, but one giant leap for mankind”. What are you going to say when you land on Mars? Your task: complete a dialogue sequence between Apollo One spaceship and Houston.

Fri You are on your way back down to Earth. It has been a long but successful mission. To keep you busy and pass the time you read. Your task: Read the text and answer the questions below.

DAILY Reading—please ask questions about what they have read or that you have read to them.

Handwriting—practice handwriting through learning days of the week and months of the year (two birds with one stone!)

Maths week beg 29th June

Key language divide, division, sharing

Mon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Web21wR3Cis Watch the video on division by grouping/ sharing and answer the questions below. Make sure you draw circles big enough so you can clearly count how many are in each. Make sure there is the same number in each group. You will have to do some careful counting.

Tues https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zqbg87h/articles/z9jxhv4 Watch the BBC Bitesize video about dividing and have a go at the quiz below. Read the problem cards and carefully answer the word problems. Share the numbers equally and double check your answers. Make sure you draw the number of circles that you are dividing by. Draw clear circles inside to make sure you can count them accurately

Wed https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/go-teach-space-pairs-inverse-multiplication-and-division-game-tg-ga-140 Today we are looking at the inverse. If we know that 10÷2=5 then we know that the inverse would be 5x2=10. Play the inverse pairs game. Work out the answer to the calculations to find the inverse. Try it on all three difficulties.

Thurs Chilli challenge problem solving cards. Today you can choose some challenge cards to answer. Read the questions carefully and

show your working out. You will have to decide whether it is a multiplication or division.

Fri Colour by calculation. Today you need to work out the answers to the calculations on the sheet and colour the box with the correct colour to reveal the picture.

DAILY Practise your times tables and number bonds.

Topic week beg 29th June

Mon DT

Before you go and explore the vast skies above, NASA have asked you to design and build a space rocket. Their space rocket engineer has gone on holiday and you can’t continue your mission without a rocket. Your task: Design, make and evaluate a rocket. Think about the materials you are going to use and be prepared to explain why you have chosen them. Write a paragraph or so a short video explaining why you have used the materials and what features your rocket has. Think about the things you would need a rocket to have to help you get to Mars and back safely.

Tues PE

Today you are being put through your paces to make sure you can withstand the physical needs of becoming an astronaut. You will need to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Watch and follow the cosmic kids yoga story below. Then set up an obstacle course outside and explore different exercises you can do to get your heart beating faster. Remember to take deep breaths and have an adult watch you to make sure you do not hurt yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9W8iV4AJYQ&t=575s

Wed Science/ Art

In space there is no gravity. You will be floating around space until you return to the Earth’s atmosphere. Before we go flying off into space, you need to know what gravity is and the impact that it has on objects. There is some gravity on Mars, but it is not as strong. Do you have an idea as to why that might be? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljRlB6TuMOU Explore gravity though art. Choose different object that weigh different amounts. You will need to dip them in paint and drop them from a height onto some paper. Make sure you label every paint splatter so you know which object made it. To make it a fair experiment, you will need to make sure that you drop them all from the same height. Before you start, make a prediction. What is going to happen when you drop objects from the same height that weigh different amounts?

Thurs History

As you walk around the planet of Mars, you find yourself thinking about gravity. Why does the gravity on Earth seem stronger than it does on Mars? You are space walking over the rocks, on the lookout for aliens and other unidentified objects when you think about what Isaac Newton would say about the gravity on Mars. Your task: Watch the story about Isaac Newton and write a diary entry from Isaac Newton’s view point. Imagine you are Isaac Newton sitting under the tree when the apple fell and hit you. What would you be thinking? How did you come up with the word ‘gravity’? Why did people believe you? Make sure you use all the things we looks for in your Literacy writing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h48BWDeBLno

Fri Art

As you are walking through the rocky terrain, you spot some moving shadows hiding behind rocks. As you walk out of the Spaceship you see some off shaped bodies and peering eyes looking in your direction. You knew their might be aliens but you had never thought they would look like this. Using paint and a straw, create an alien planet. Dab the paint onto the paper and blow it around to create different shapes with the straw.
