HIV Symposium Looks at Acute HIV Infections

On September 25, 2008 the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Center for AIDS Research Social and Behav-ioral Sciences Re-search Core and the

Acute HIV Infection (AHI) Topical Work Group co-sponsored a symposium entitled “Acute HIV Infection: Current Trends and Future Direc-tions for Interventions”. Over 40 participants from around the Research Triangle area, in-cluding UNC, Duke, FHI and RTI were in atten-dance. UNC has been a leader in research on AHI for many years. Currently, UNC investigators are conducting multiple domestic and international studies among a variety of disciplines including the behaviors of individuals with AHI, the role of clinical treatment for individuals living with AHI, and better algorithms and diagnostics for detection of AHI.
