Pastor Pam’s Ponderings . . . I was glad when they said to me, Let’s go
to the house of the Lord! Isn’t it wonderful to be free to come to a place
designated for worship with other sisters and brothers? And, isn’t it great that
we can worship in different ways, at different times, and in different parts of
the Lord’s House? I am excited about the new service we inaugurate Sunday,
September 11 at 7:45 p.m. in Peace Hall. What a wonderful setting that space
is for fellowship and innovation. Michelle Anderson, Dr. Kim Shirey, the
Praise Band, youth, and others will lead this service. Frankly we’re not sure
what will happen each week—except we expect to Encounter the Holy One
in Three-God, Creator of heaven and earth. We want this service to be one
with maximum participation. That means that members of First UMC are
encouraged to worship twice on Sunday if possible!
Moses encountered God when he had the good sense to stop and turn
to examine a new thing. Let’s be careful to see where we can encounter God.
Don’t miss a blessing! Encounter is one way we hope to minister to college
students and others who don’t get up for Sunday morning worship! Pray for
us as we plan the services and as we gather for the Encounter.
One way we know that we encounter God is through prayer. God
hears and answers our prayers. Your prayers for my friend Dink White of
Seguin, Texas, have been answered with good news. His prognosis is better;
a new oncologist has a by mouth medication to address the leukemia. Thank
you for praying for him and his wife Judy. Evidently I did not communicate
clearly—Dink is a friend, not my brother. My perfect brother Mark Estes is
favored with great health and he lives in California with my sister-in-law.
Be ready for an encounter—Walk in faith with God and one another!
Shalom, Pastor Pam

LIFETREE CAFÉ
“BIAS—
What’s the
media’s agenda?” Tuesday, September 6,
2016 at 5:30 p.m.
The program features filmed interviews with three
current and former news journalists discussing the
current state of bias in the media.
“I would say this is the most unprofessional period
of American journalism I can recall in the last 30
years,” says David Aikman, a former correspondent
for Time. “It’s just been extraordinarily unquestioning
and dismissive of opposition viewpoints”
During the program, participants will have an
opportunity to discuss what level of tilt they see in the
news media.

The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to
all who call on him sincerely. Psalm 145:18
By the time your life is over, you will have
spent six months at stoplights, eight months
opening junk mail, a year and a half looking
for lost stuff, and a whopping five years
standing in various lines.
Why don't you give these moments to God?
By giving God your whispering thoughts, the
common becomes uncommon. Simple phrases
such as "Thank You, Father," "Be sovereign
this hour ,O Lord," "You are my resting
place, Jesus" can turn a commute into a pil-
grimage. You needn't leave your office or
kneel in your kitchen. Just pray where you are.
Let the kitchen become a cathedral or the
classroom a chapel.
Give God your whispering thoughts.
--Max Lucado
God, I know that You are with me always. I
give you my moments today; Lord God, please
direct my thoughts toward you and allow me to
see You today in the middle of the mundane.
Amen.
