Intercooler water sprayS00AQ

Intercooler water spray switchesPull the intercooler water spray switchesfor approximately 1/2 seconds or more tospray water onto the intercooler. This can

be used to help maintain adequate inter-cooler performance when the outsidetemperature is high.Water is sprayed to the intercooler re-gardless of which switch is pulled. Wateris sprayed for approximately 2 seconds.

Intercooler water spray warning light

NOTE. The intercooler water spray warninglight comes on when the water level inthe tank has dropped to the lower limit.If the warning light illuminates, refillthe tank with water. The tank is underthe floor of the trunk.. In cold weather (when you do notuse the intercooler water spray), keepthe tank half-empty or below in casethe water freezes. If a large amount ofwater in the tank freezes, it could

cause the tank to crack.. This function does not dramaticallyimprove the vehicle’s performance.

CAUTION

. Do not pull the switches whenthe warning light is illuminated. Ifthe switch is kept pulled whenthe tank is short of water, thewater pump motor could over-heat.

. Do not pull the switches whenthe ambient temperature is 418F(58C) or lower. If the intercoolerwater spray is used in coldtemperatures, the water couldbe frozen and cause the waterpump motor to overheat.

& Refilling the intercoolerwater spray tank

Add water to the intercooler water spraytank when the intercooler water spraywarning light in the combination metercomes on. The warning light comes onwhen the water in the tank has de-creased.

The intercooler water spray tank is be-neath the storage compartment under thefloor of the trunk. Refer to “Under-floor

storage compartment” FP10.

Do not move the storage compartmentunless it is empty. Doing so could damagethe storage compartment. To avoid this,remove the cargo from the storagecompartment in advance, and hold it bythe center to take it out of the trunk.

CAUTION

In cold weather (when you do notuse the intercooler water spray),keep the tank half-empty or less incase the water freezes. If a largeamount of water in the tank freezes,it could cause the tank to crack.

NOTE. Use only pure water for refilling.. The maximum amount of intercoolerwater is 3.9 US qt (3.7 liters, 3.3 Imp qt).The supply amount will be approxi-mately 3.6 US qt (3.4 liters, 3.0 Imp qt)when the intercooler water warninglight on the combination meter illumi-nates.. If you spill water when refilling thetank, wipe off the spilled water.

with excessive force. Doing somay damage the rear wing.

Read these instructions andwarnings carefully before sealing aflat tire.

Compliance with these instructionsis vital to ensuring vehicle safety.Noncompliance with these instruc-tions means risking tire damage,which can affect vehicle handlingand lead to loss of vehicle control.This may result in serious injury ordeath.

If the tire is punctured, you can seal theflat tire temporarily by using the flat tirerepair kit. You can seal a flat tire caused,for example, by nails or similar objectswith less than 0.2 in (4 mm). However,depending on the type and extent of tire

damage, some tires can only be partiallysealed or not sealed at all, and thiscondition may cause a loss of tirepressure. A loss of tire pressure canaffect vehicle handling, leading to the lossof vehicle control.

After sealing the flat tire temporarily,change the tire with a new one as soonas possible. We recommend that youhave the sealed tire changed by yournearest SUBARU dealer. You may reusethe wheel if the attached sealant is wipedoff, but the valve of the wheel must bereplaced with a new one. If you reuse thewheel without replacing the valve, air mayleak from the valve.For tire replacement, refer to the vehicleOwner’s Manual for details.

! Safety precautions when sealingflat tire

S09AC0301Observe the following rules when sealinga flat tire.

WARNING

. Do not use the flat tire repair kitin the following cases.– The tire has already been

damaged as a result of beingdriven in the under inflatedcondition.

– The tire damage is not locatedwithin the visible tread of thetire.

– The tire damage is on thesidewall of the tire.

– When the tire has been takenoff of the wheel.

– The wheel or the tire valve ofthe flat tire is damaged.

– Two or more tires have beenpunctured.

– The expiration date of thesealant has passed.

– The tire is punctured bypointed items such as nailsof 0.2 in (4 mm) or larger.

. When inflating the flat tire, if thetire inflation pressure does notreach the green zone of thepressure gauge within 10 min-utes, do not continue to seal thetire. We recommend that youcontact your SUBARU dealer.

. Drive with caution and avoidmaking sudden steering or driv-ing maneuvers.

. Do not exceed a maximum speedof 50 mph (80 km/h).

. Do not exceed a maximum driv-ing distance of 125 miles (200km).

. Do not use tire chains on asealed tire.

. Do not tow a trailer.

. If used for a purpose other thansealing a flat tire, the flat tirerepair kit may cause a severeaccident or injury due to the factthat compressed air can act asan explosive or propellant.

. Safely park your vehicle on theroadside so that you do notobstruct the flow of traffic andso that you are able to seal theflat tire without being in danger.

. Apply the parking brake, even ifthe vehicle is parked on a levelroad, to make sure that thevehicle will not move.

. Stop the engine before sealingthe flat tire.

. Turn on the hazard warningflasher while sealing the flat tire.

. Do not attempt to remove foreignobjects like nails or screws thathave penetrated the tire. Leavethem as they are.

. Never leave the flat tire repair kitunattended while in use.

. Only one tire can be repairedwith one bottle of sealant.

. The tire can be repaired when theambient temperature is −228F

CAUTION

. Remember that the flat tire repairkit only provides temporary mo-bility. Regulations concerningtire repair after usage of flat tirerepair kit may differ from countryto country. We recommend thatyou consult your SUBARU deal-er or tire dealer for advice.

. Store the flat tire repair kit safelyand secure it in the cargo area.Storing it anywhere in the pas-senger compartment is not ad-visable because it could strikean occupant in the event of asudden stop or collision andcause injury.

. Use the flat tire repair kit withoriginal vehicle tires only.

. Do not keep the air compressoroperating for more than 10 min-utes, otherwise there is a risk ofoverheating.

. The temperature of the air com-pressor may become high. Becareful not to burn yourself.

. When raining, take measures to

prevent the air compressor frombeing exposed directly to therain. Exposing to rain may causea malfunction.

. Do not use air compressorsother than the one in the repairkit. Using an air compressorother than the one in the repairkit may damage the tires.

. Do not disassemble or modifythe air compressor to enable theuse of a power supply or abattery other than DC12 V.

. If a temporary puncture repair isperformed with the repair kit, theTire Pressure Monitoring System(TPMS) may not operate nor-mally.

! How to seal the flat tireS09AC0302

To seal the flat tire, perform the followingsteps.

. First, pump in the sealant and air. Drivethe vehicle for approximately 10 minutesor 3 miles (5 km) so that the sealant canseal the damaged area.

. Stop the vehicle again, check and, ifnecessary, adjust the pressure of thedamaged tire.. After that, you can continue to drivecarefully no faster than 50 mph (80 km/h)and within the maximum distance of 125miles (200 km).

Inform all other users of the vehicle thatthe tire has been temporarily sealed withthe flat tire repair kit and make themaware of the special driving conditions tobe observed.

1. Shake the sealant bottle well. Loosenthe hose.

2. Connect the air compressor hose tothe valve on the bottle.

CAUTION

. Make sure that the air compres-sor switch is OFF.

. The sealant may leak if the fittingis not tight enough.

Connect the hose from the bottle to thetire valve stem tightly.

The sealant may leak if the fitting isnot tight enough.

3. Turn the bottle upside down and tiltthe bottle cap into the bottle holder of theair compressor.Make sure that the air compressor switchis OFF.

4. Connect the power plug of the air

compressor into the accessory poweroutlet.

Apply the parking brake and turn on theignition switch to the “ACC” position. Turnthe air compressor switch on and adjustthe air pressure to the appropriate level

(green zone of the air gauge).

CAUTION

. Do not run the air compressor formore than 10 minutes as it canget hot. Be careful not to getburned.

. If tire pressure does not reachthe green zone for 10 minutes,this kit will be unable to seal thetire. Contact your SUBARU deal-er for help.

NOTE. After the compressor starts to oper-ate, the air pressure will temporarilyrise to 45 psi (300 kPa, 3.0 kgf/cm2) orhigher. After about 30 seconds whenall of the sealant is inside the tire, theair pressure will lower, representingthe air pressure in the tire.. In extremely low temperatures−228F to −48F (−308C to −208C), theviscosity of the sealant increases andthe sealant will flow more slowly. Insuch temperatures, bring the sealantinto the vehicle to warm it up beforeuse.

. When mending the tire, if the airpressure gauge is hard to read, turnthe compressor switch off once to getan accurate reading.

5. While filling the tire with air, attach thespeed limit label on the position shown inthe illustration.

WARNING

Do not attach the speed limit labelin a position where the label hidesthe warning lamp or on the steeringwheel. It may interfere with thenormal operation of the airbag andlead to a critical failure.

6. Turn the air compressor power switchoff when the air pressure reaches thegreen zone of the air gauge.Remove the power plug from the acces-sory power socket.

air and fasten the valve cap.

Connect the hose of the bottle to the valveof the bottle in a circular fashion to avoidleakage of the remaining sealant.

CAUTION

The sealant may stain clothing.

7. Stow the kit back in the vehicle anddrive your vehicle immediately for 10minutes or 3 miles (5 km).

WARNING

. Drive carefully. Do not exceed 50mph (80 km/h). Driving fasterthan that can result in the vehicleshaking.

. Do not use tire chains on asealed tire.

. Do not tow a trailer.

. If heavy vibrations, unsteadysteering behavior or noises oc-cur while driving, reduce yourspeed and drive with caution to alocation where it is safe for youto stop the vehicle. Recheck the

tire and its pressure. If the tirepressure is in the red zone of theair gauge or if there are anycracks, bumps or similar tiredamage visible, temporary re-pairs cannot be performed withthe repair kit. We recommendthat you consult with yourSUBARU dealer or road serviceprovider.

8. After driving for 10 minutes or 3 miles(5 km), whichever comes first, stop thevehicle in a safe place to recheck the airpressure (see step 4).If necessary, fill the tire with air to theappropriate air pressure again and drivecarefully to the nearest SUBARU dealerfor tire, valve stem and sealant bottle

replacement.

NOTEConnect the air compressor only to thetire valve.

CAUTION

. If the air pressure is in red zoneof the air gauge, the kit did notsuccessfully seal the puncture.In this case, stop driving andcontact your SUBARU dealer forhelp.

. Do not drive your vehicle withthe sealed tire for more than 125miles (200 km). Failure to replacethe valve stem may result in airleakage at the valve stem.

Before the tire is removed from the rim,inform your SUBARU dealer or other tiredealer that the tire contains sealant.

CAUTION

The sealant bottle and speed limitlabel need to be replaced afterusing the flat tire repair kit.

NOTENew sealant and replacement partscan be purchased from your author-ized repair shop or SUBARU dealer,and they should also be installed intothe kit by a specialist. Empty sealantbottles and replacement parts must bereturned to your SUBARU dealer ordisposed of in compliance with localwaste disposal regulations.

High performance driving is inher-ently dangerous. It should be per-formed only on a closed, super-vised course by drivers with ade-quate skill and experience. Highperformance driving should neverbe performed on public roads.When driving on public roads, al-ways obey posted speed limits andother applicable laws. Failure tofollow these warnings, and thesteps outlined below, may result inserious injury or death.

CAUTION

High performance driving presentsa high risk of damage to yourvehicle and its component parts. Itrequires additional maintenanceand vehicle preparation, and shouldbe performed only by drivers withadequate skill and experience. Fail-ure to follow the steps outlinedbelow may result in significantdamage to your vehicle. Addition-

ally, your vehicle warranties do notcover damage that results fromhigh performance driving.

Precautions for high performance driv-ing are listed as follows. However, thelisted precautions are minimum re-quirements and additional measuresmay be necessary to ensure safety. Itis the owner’s responsibility to main-tain the vehicle in its optimum condi-tion and acknowledge the risk of highperformance driving.

& Before drivingS00X101

1. Inspect the remaining brake pad thick-ness and replace them if they are 6 mm orless. Consult your SUBARU dealer forreplacement.

2. Prior to high performance driving,check the brake related parts. If changingthe brake fluid to a high performancebrake fluid, use an Ethylene glycol basedbrake fluid equivalent to genuine brakefluid. Do not use silicone based fluids.When a high performance fluid is used,check the brake related parts and performan inspection frequently, including thebrake hoses. These parts may be ex-posed to heat from high performancedriving.

Change the fluid to genuine DOT3 fluid orDOT4 fluid after high performance driving.

3. If new brake pads have been fitted,prior to high performance driving, performa brake quenching to achieve immediateand constant deceleration when brakingat high speeds. Regarding brake quench-ing, refer to the following steps. Drive thevehicle for approximately 50 miles (80km) while avoiding excessive accelerationand sudden braking. Then drive thevehicle for approximately 50 more miles(80 km) to burnish the brake pads. Toburnish the brake pads, gradually in-crease the vehicle speed and applystrong braking.

4. The power steering fluid level isrecommended to be maintained at “HOTMIN” due to the thermal expansion of thefluid when heated up. Refer to the vehicleOwner’s Manual for details.

5. To improve engine cooling in highambient temperatures, the undercovermay be removed to increase the enginecooling efficiency. Consult your SUBARUdealer for details.

6. Make sure that the cooling vents/ducts, intercooler and the radiator arefree of blockage.

7. When parking a vehicle under theblazing sun, the water in the intercoolerwater spray tank will be very high intemperature. Filling up the intercoolerwater spray tank with cold water prior tousing the intercooler water spray mayhelp to increase the intercooler perfor-mance. Refer to “Refilling the intercoolerwater spray tank” FP6.

8. Remove all unsecured cargo from thevehicle’s interior, including the floor mats.

9. Remove the center cap from the alloywheel to prevent discoloration and war-page from heat.

10. Check that the battery is securelyfixed before driving.

11. Check that the tires have enoughtread depth and are free of damage.

12. Prior to high performance driving,check that the tire pressures are theappropriate values that allow for theincreasing temperature of the tires.

1. Tire pressure becomes high duringhigh performance driving due to theincrease in tire temperature. Adjust thetire pressure frequently in between driv-ings.

2. Before driving at high speeds, drivemoderately to check the vehicle condi-tions.

3. Brake pedal travel may increase dur-ing high performance driving. In this case,decelerate the vehicle speed immediatelyand keep enough distance from, thevehicle in front then perform a cooling run.

4. It is crucial to sufficiently cool downthe vehicle after high performance driving.Do not stop and park the vehicle imme-diately after high performance driving.Perform a cooling run and make surethe hood is opened when stopped.

1. After high performance driving, in-spect the vehicle condition, such as wheelnut tightening torque, tire wear, brakewear, tire pressure and fluid levels, toensure safety.Inspection prior to high performance driv-ing is also recommended.

2. If the undercover, floor mats and otherparts are removed temporarily prior tohigh performance driving, do not forget toreinstall them.

3. Cracks may form on the surface of thedisc rotors due to extreme braking from

high performance driving. Depending onthe severity of the cracks, the disc rotorsand brake pads may need to be replaced.Consult your SUBARU dealer for replace-ment.
