WeeKlY notes

- New Orleans lost to Kennesaw State 60-53 to close out the weekend at the KSU Thanksgiving Classic. The Privateers were out-scored 21-10 in the final quarter.- Jordan Hines and Wyketha Harrell join the coaching staff after Tomekia Reed and Amber Clay both left for Hinds CC. Harrell comes in from Kent State while Hines was an assistant on the Louisiana-Lafayette team that won the WBI in 2014-15.- The Privateers were picked 11th out of 13 teams in the Southland preseason coaches poll. Lamar was tabbed as the preseason favorite followed by defending tournament champion, Northwestern State. Sitting in third in the coaches’ poll was Stephen F. Austin. - Randi Brown had two performances of 30 points and scored at least 20 in each of the last six games of 2014-15. Brown poured in 30 at Southeastern and duplicated the mark in the second meeting against Southeastern.- Danielle Wright missed both games over the weekend due to a concussion. Wright had played 35 minutes between contests against TCU and LSU-Alexandria.

southland notes - All ten members of last season’s All-Southland teams returned to fill out the preseason All-Conference teams head-ing into 2015. First Team selection, JaMeisha Edwards (Lamar) was sixth in the league in scoring last year at 16.1 PPG. - McNeese State has won five straight since their season-opening loss to UT-Chattanooga. The Cowgirls have topped Dartmouth, UT-Arlington, Rice, SUNO, and Louisiana College.- Abilene Christian leads the Southland in several categories: the Wildcats top the conference in points per game, rebounds per game, blocks per game, free throw percentage, and steals per game.- The Southland Conference announced a multi-year deal with ESPN in the off-season that extends through the 2019-20 season. 120 Southland events will be carried on an ESPN platform in that time frame.

UNOPrivateers.com New Orleans Privateers Women’s Basketball @UNOPRIVATEERS @PRIVATEERS_WBB

Keeshawn Carter Davenport enters her 12th season with the Privateers and fourth as head coach of the women’s basketball program.

In 2014-15, Davenport guided the Privateers to a 5-1 finish to the season, just missing out on qualifying for the Southland tournament. New Orleans landed in a three-way tie for the final spot, but wound up on the short end of the tiebreaker. Davenport also coached Randi Brown who became the first women’s basketball conference Freshman of the Year in program history.

Davenport has had to redirect the Privateers program over the past three seasons, taking the job in 2011-12 with only three scholarships. Despite the team’s struggles over the past three seasons, Davenport continues to plug on with seven newcomers on the 2014-15 roster along with three returning starters.

Davenport’s tenure on the coaching staff began when she served in the capacity of a student assistant and graduate assistant for two years. In 2003, the native of Reserve, La. became the first-ever full-time third assistant for the Privateers.

Davenport added to her list of ‘firsts’ when she became the first former UNO women’s basketball player to be named head coach, following then-head coach Amy Champion’s move to athletic director in 2010.

A four-year letter winner, Davenport saw action in 100 contests and made 32 starts for the Privateers during her undergraduate years on the Lakefront. Davenport averaged 6.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest over her career while serving in the role of co-captain during her senior season. Davenport also garnered recognition on the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll.

In 2005 Davenport received her master’s degree in education from UNO with a focus on psychosocial aspects of sport and exercise.

Davenport went to high school at East St. John where she graduated as the all-time leading scorer while guiding the school to its first playoff win and first-ever district title during her senior season. A two-time team captain, Davenport earned All-State and Academic All-State Honorable Mention honors in her senior season and was a three-time all-district selection.

Davenport is married to Deon Davenport, and the couple resides in Kenner, La
