About the Project
_______________________________
LET’S BECOME LANGUAGE FRIENDLY SCHOOLS is a project created in terms of the
Erasmus+ programme. It is funded by the European Commission for years 2017–19,
starting on 2nd October 2017 and finishing on 1st October 2019, and is coordinated by
Atike Hanım Anadolu Lisesi, Hendek, Turkey. It is part of the KA2 module –
Cooperation for Exchange of Good Practices, Strategic Partnerships for Schools Only.
Main objectives of the project:
The project is aimed to develop general language skills of the students of four partner
schools from Turkey (coordinator), Romania, Italy,Spain,Bulgaria improve the
effectiveness of foreign language teaching in all the partner organisations.
Our schools have been concerned about foreign language teaching effectiveness for
years. We offer our students enrichment and remedial classes, we as teachers use ICT to
some extent, organise different kinds of competitions, offer two foreign languages and
have classes with extra English lessons in the curriculum. However, the European and
national studies, as well as results of the national exams, show some weaknesses of our
efforts. Language is the road map of a culture. It tells you where its people come from
and where they are going.Indeed, when you help your students grasp a new language,
you give them what they need to have an enriched, globalized mindset.
We intend to establish new routines and give special attention to English language
teaching, hoping that the project “Let’s Become Language-Friendly Schools!” will make
the English language visible and alive in our schools, even long after the project has
finished.
On top of the main objective, which is developing language skills of our students, we also aim to:
strengthen students’ social skills such as group working, decision making, mediating skills, planning, organising, etc.
exchange experiences with teachers from other schools to find new solutions to foreign language teaching problems,
learn about different European countries and become tolerant towards other nation’s values and culture and at the same time
increase the awareness of students’ cultural identity,
make the learners open to other than English foreign languages,
LET’S BECOME LANGUAGE FRIENDLY SCHOOLS, Newsletter #3 Page 3
improve students’ command of communication tools and ICT,
introduce our students to self-assessment techniques,
build up our students' confidence in their ability to function in multinational environment.
The Project is adressed to: *Students: directly and indirectly involved in the Project will experience new ways of
improving basic language skills and cross through participation or observation and
analysis of information disseminators of design work.

families in order to select the most appropriate host families for our guest students. We
signed a contract with the families for our guest students’ security and comfort. We also
prepared activities for the DANCE topic, as well as for the different activities we were
planning to do during the short-term exchange.
We prepared lessons presenting our country's culture, geography, histrory etc,
showing innovative ways of how to teach the 5 language skills. Also, we prepared
presentations of the national modern and traditional dances and dancers, national and
regional dances, national and regional costumes. Our students learnt some figures of our
folk dances to teach the host sudents and the teachers. They also prepared videoblogs in
which they presented themselves; they showed their lifestyle, daily routine, interests
etc. to become more familiar with their future guests. Before our guest students arrived
to our country, we had sent the videoblogs to them.

Educational Trip to Iznik. Known as Nicaea since ancient times, İznik is located on
eastern shore of Lake İznik (Askania Limne) surrounded by ranges of hills within the
Bithynia (Marmara) region of Anatolia. There has been human settlement on İznik since
prehistory, as witnessed by discoveries of several mounds and tumuli around. It was
during this Hellenistic period that the settlement was planned as a rectangular city with
its four gates and two major roads intersecting at the centre.İznik enjoyed a period of
expansion and prosperity under Roman rule. During the Byzantine period, İznik became
an important religious centre, particularly after the Emperor Constantine was converted
into Christianity in 313 AD. The first Christian Council called the great Council of Nicaea
was held in İznik in 325 AD with the participation of bishops more than three hundreds
came from different parts of the empire. Anatolian Seljuks took over Nicaea in 1081,
made the city their capital and renamed it İznik. When Ottoman Beylik captured İznik in
1331, they also formed their capital here.
