Turn on the computer andInsert the DWL-AG650 Driver CD in theCD-ROM drive.The step-by-step instructions that follow are shownin Windows XP. The steps and screens are similarfor other Windows operating systems
Insert the D-Link CD Into Your Laptop PC Do NOT install the DWL-AG650Cardbus Adapter intoyour computer beforeinstalling the driversoftware from theD-Link CD!
You must have at least the following:• A laptop/notebook computer with an available 32-bit Cardbus slot• At least a 500 MHz processor and 128MB of memory• Cardbus Controller properly installed and working in the laptop computer• An 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g Access Point (for Infrastructure Mode) or
another 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g wireless adapter (for Ad-Hoc; Peer-to-Peer networking mode.)

The Install Screen will appear.
If the CD Autorun functiondoes not automatically starton your computer , go toStart > Run and type“D:\Setup.exe.” If it doesstart, proceed to the nextscreen.
The letter “D” represents theletter of the CD-ROMdrive. Your CD-ROMdrive may be a differentdrive letter.
Type “D:\Setup.exe.”

C. Gently insert the DWL-AG650 into the Cardbus slot in your laptopcomputer (as shown.)

Restart Your Computer
When you restart your computerthis Found New HardwareWizard (Windows XP) screenwill appear:
Click Next
For Windows XP: This HardwareInstallation alert screen may appearafter the desktop computer restarts.
Select Install the softwareautomatically (Recommended)
Click Continue Anywayto finalize the installation
Click Finish to finalizethe installation.
The D-Link driver software for this device is undergoing Windows Logo testing. Microsoft
certification is pending.

After you’ve continued in Windows XP, 2000, ME, or 98SE, the D-Link AirXpertDWL-AG650 Configuration Utility will automatically start and the utility icon willappear in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop screen (systray). If thisicon appears GREEN, then you have successfully installed the DWL-AG650,are connected to a wireless network and are ready to communicate!
Double-click the utility icon touse the configuration utility.
If the utility icon does not appear,double-click the shortcut icon thathas appeared on your desktop.

Appendix
Click the XP Networking iconto use the Zero ConfigurationWireless Settings.
Click Advanced
Uncheck “Use Windows toconfigure my wireless net-work settings.”

Using the Configuration Utility
A. Status: Displays theMAC Address of theAccess Point that isassociated with theDWL-AG650.
B. SSID: The Service SetIdentifier is the nameassigned to the wirelessnetwork. The factorySSID setting is set todefault.
F. TxRate: The defaultsetting is Auto; mean-ing, TxRate settings areautomatically deter-mined by the DWL-AG650 depending onthe distance from theaccess point.
I. Data Rate:Graphically displaysthe statistics of datatransmitted andreceived.

D. Wireless Mode:The factory setting isset to Infrastructure.Ad-Hoc mode is usedfor peer-to-peernetworking. H. Link Quality / Signal
Strength: Displays the LinkQuality for the DWL-AG650wireless connection to theaccess point. The SignalStrength represents thewireless signal between theaccess point and the DWL-G650. The percentagecoincides with the graphicalbar.
G. Channel: Dis-plays the channelinformation. Bydefault, the channelis set to 6 andselection is auto-matically deter-mined by the DWL-AG650.
C. Frequency: Displays the currentfrequency used by the currentconnection to the Access Point.
E. Encryption: Displays thecurrent encryption status ofthe wireless connection.

J. SSID: The Service SetIdentifier is the name as-signed to the wirelessnetwork. The factory SSIDsetting is set to default. Makechanges here to match theSSID on existing WirelessRouter or Access Point.
N. TxRate (11b/g): Youcan adjust the transmissionrate of the 802.11b and802.11g band to get thebest signal possibledepending on your usageand your environment.

O. TxRate (11a): Youcan adjust the transmis-sion rate of the 802.11aband to get the bestsignal possible de-pending on your usageand your environment.
P. Power Mode: By default, Power Mode isset to Continuous Access Mode. Continu-ous Access Mode — this default settingconsumes the most power. MaximumPower Save — this setting consumes theleast power. Power Save — this settingconsumes a moderate amount of power.
L. Ad-Hoc Band:Specifies thewireless bandwidthused whether802.11a/b/g whensetting up an Ad-Hoc network.
Q. Preamble:Thedefault setting isset to “Short &Long Preamble.”The preamblesetting mustmatch thepreamble settingof the wirelessrouter or accesspoint in order toconnect.

R. Support Band:By default, theadapter will scan &connect to an802.11a/b/gnetowrk. You alsohave the option toscan specific typesof wirelessnetworks.
M. Channel: By default, thechannel is set to 6. Channelselection is automaticallydetermined by the DWL-AG650 depending on thechannel setting of the accesspoint selected for association.To change the channelsettings, the Wireless Modemust be set to Ad-hoc.

IP Address ConfigurationTo connect to a network, make surethe proper network settings areconfigured for DWL-AG650.
For Microsoft Windows XP:Go to Start > right click onMy Network Places >select Properties > Right Click and SelectProperties on the Network Connectionassociated with the DWL-AG650.
Input a static IP address in the samerange as the Wireless Router orAccess Point.
