This past month, our school building has been

grade six classes and our clubs and teams continued to meet. Finally now,

we are busy planning the Winter Showcase, Recognition Assemblies and

several other year end activities.

In the classroom, staff continue to work on developing strongand effective

programs for our students both in literacy and numeracy. Our teachers

work. Our teachers have met to unpack, and review our EQAO results and

strategies such as using the number line to improve student comprehen-

sion in “problem solving”. Our staff continues to meet to track students’

FROM THE CLASSROOM

Celebrating Media Literacy Week

This year's theme – Youth & Social Networking: Creative, Connected, Collab-

orative was designed to help young people learn how to leverage the power of

social media platforms for advocacy, activism and peer support. Mrs. Moham-

med worked wither grade 7 and encouraged them to explore the opportunities

that social networking tools provide for contributing positively to society and

building digital skills for the future.

In order to learn more about Remembrance Day, Mrs. Mohamed's class used

lots of resources. The students teamed up with the Toronto Star Classroom

connections which sent special newspapers that had really cool technology

imbedded in it called

Layer. Though Layer,

some of the articles

could be scanned and

watched as a video, listened to like a radio or

simply read like a newspaper. In other words, it

brought Remembrance Day and the war to life.

UPDATE

October - Responsibility

November - Empathy

December - Kindness & Caring

Officers Burns and Bednarczyk were

in to talk about Bullying Awareness

and Prevention and to help promote

safe a positive learning environment.

The presentation “Frenemeis” fol-

lowed the story of Leah, a new stu-

dent at school. With the aid of a good

friend and positive role models, Leah

overcomes the stress of moving, a

family tragedy, and bullying.

OUR TRIP TO FOREST VALLEY

Ms. Tkatchuk's grade 2/3 class had a fan-

tastic time at Forest Valley Outdoor Edu-

cation Centre on Nov. 6 2014! Chrys, our

teacher for the day, helped us to under-

stand about units of standard and non-

standard measurement. He taught us

that we can even measure our feelings

when we hiked down to the river, closed

our eyes and listened only to the sound of

the water. After lunch and playing at the

playground, we learned how to do

"rubbings" on different kinds of outdoor

surfaces and natures. The hot chocolate

at the end of the day was a great way to finish off the day!

Kennedy P.S. has Teamed Up For Green, a rare and innovative collaboration between

our Board and Toronto Hydro. We are very proud to be selected to take part in this fundrais-

ing campaign with 100% of the proceeds going directly towards the purchase and installation

of bike racks to benefit TDSB students. Here is the link for customers to sign-up http://

teamupforgreen.com/ Thank you to everyone who has signed up so far.

Go Team Go! Together we can be successful.

BULLYING AWARENESS & PREVENTION

Participaction at Kennedy P.S.

The Royal Agricultural

Winter Fair

Congratulations Cathy Huang who was selected from

the TDSB as a Just Read It winner!

The Welcoming Community ESL Program went to the

Cadbury chocolate factory. We learned that: the Neilson

family sells ice cream and chocolate, that cocoa beans

grow close to the equator and that there are four hun-

dred beans in a pod. The group visited the president’s

office where William Neilson and his son took over the

Neilson factory. We saw a lot of chocolate and Maynards

candy and we tasted a coco bean and Irish crumb. At the

mini egg factory we saw the chocolate being wrapped and

packaged and we got to try Crunchie and Caramilk choc-

olate bars. We enjoyed our Tour!
