Artists from Karlovy -Vary, in the

Czech Republic, Carlsbad’s sister city,

will display their work at the COAL

Gallery in June, 2016. A reception in

their honor will be held on June 12th

3pm -5pm. See pages 2 & 3 for more

information.

Note to Artists: $$$

IRS rules require COAL to file Form 1099

for any artist with sales of more than $600

per year. You will be required to provide

your social security number to COAL.

A few words from COAL President, Bob Mussay about the Karlovy-Vary Artists’ Visit . . . On Sunday, June 12, 3:00 - 5:00 pm our Gallery will be hosting three artists from our sister city Karlovy-Vary in the Czech

Republic. Last year six artists were chosen from Carlsbad's COAL Gallery to go to and exhibit their art in Karlovy-Vary's

Municipal Gallery in August. They were lodged for four nights, had a reception, toured famous sites and met with local

artists. The return exchange will have Karlovy-Vary artists come to and exhibit at COAL Gallery this June and will offer

them the same amenities.

All our members are invited to attend the reception and meet fellow artists from another country. Food will be provided

by COAL but members are asked to donate wine. Please help us show our Czech visitors a gracious time and allow

Carlsbad residents the opportunity to see this wonderful art and learn about its namesake sister city. See page 3 for more

about the Karlovy-Vary artists, exhibit and reception.

June Show - PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TAKE-IN DAY

Take-in Wednesday, June 1, 10AM-4PM, Regular Entries

As a result of the International Art Exchange and the Karlovy-Vary

Artists’ visit, the COAL Gallery will have more visitors and public

attention during the month of June which should result in more

sales.

Thank you, volunteers!

Without your help, the gallery could not remain open.

Make this a great year. Get involved. Volunteer!

Flooring Repairs

Our Gallery has experienced water damage from above. Most of

the damage is to the flooring which will be replaced. The timing

for replacement depends on how long it takes the concrete to

thoroughly dry out, possibly 2-6 weeks. The building and health

department inspectors each make this determination.

The gallery will remain open during repairs.

The shrink wraps of four artists were damaged. We will be setting

up meetings between the artists and the insurance company to

resolve damages.

Thank you all for working with us during these repairs. The gallery

will be beautiful again very soon.

Bob Mussay President

The Carlsbad Oceanside Art League

would like to extend a very special thank

you to the Carlsbad Inn for all of their

support of COAL’s Art on the Green.

Coming in June, International Art Exchange Karlovy-Vary Artists from the Czech Republic

Will Exhibit at the COAL Gallery

Save the date: June 12th and participate! Last year, the art of six members of COAL were juried to be displayed in Karlovy-Vary, The Czech Republic, as part

of the Sister-City program, City of Carlsbad. The COAL artists were Diane O'Connell, David Schlegel, Ellie Havel

Thomas, Lois Athern, Rita Shulak and Sibylla Voll. This year, in June, the COAL Gallery will be hosting three

artists, and the art of five artists from Karlovy-Vary as part of the exchange. The Czech artists are Vaclav Balsan,

Varvara Divisova, Jiri Kozisek, Lenska Maliska Sarova and Jan Semec. The Sister Cities concept was initiated in 1956

by President Dwight Eisenhower to promote cultural and commercial ties. Carlsbad Sister City Ambassadors was

formed in 2010 to continue Carlsbad's Sister City Program and expand community participation for residents and

businesses. Last August the six COAL artists’ work was exhibited in the Karlovy-Vary's Municipal Gallery. They

were lodged for four nights, had a reception, toured famous sites and met with local artists. The return exchange will

have Karlovy-Vary artists come to and exhibit at COAL Gallery this June and will offer them the same amenities.

Reception June 12th COAL will be hosting a reception for the Karlovy-Vary artists at the Gallery on Sunday, June 12, 2016, and you are invited! At that reception we will be joined by the Mayor of Carlsbad, dignitaries of the City, and representatives of the Sister Cities program. In addition to the Karlovy-Vary artists, we expect that the Consul General for the Czech Republic will also be attending. Artists from Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic, Carlsbad’s sister city, will display their work at the COAL Gallery for the month of June, 2016. A reception in honor of the Czech artists will be held on June 12th from 3pm-5pm (?). We are expecting Czech & local dignitaries, including the Czech counsel general (???) & the Carlsbad mayor. Last year, COAL artists Lois Athearn, Diane O’Connell, David Schlegel, Rita Shulak, Ellie Havel Thomas and Sibylla Voll were featured in an exhibit in Karlovy Vary, in the Czech Republic.

Reception honoring the Karlovy-Vary Artists on Sunday, June 12th 3-5pm

Food will be provided by COAL for this event but members are asked to donate wine. COAL members, please bring a bottle of wine to the reception.

Gallery Display: We will be displaying 25 pieces of art from our Sister-Cities artists which will be hung on the usual "Featured Artists Wall." The remainder of the gallery will be available for COAL members and the June show. As a result of the International Art Exchange and the Karlovy-

Vary Artists’ visit, the COAL Gallery will have more visitors

and public attention during the month of June.
