Join us for a discussion about how you can prepare for an oophorectomy (surgical removal of the ovaries) and how you may be affected by medical menopause following the surgery. In addition to addressing these topics, there will be time to network and share with other members of the hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) community about other topics of concern to you. This meeting is for women only.

Social Security Disability and SSI: Everything You Need to Know Thursday, August 10; 6-7:30pmSpeaker: Marc A Strauss, Esq., Pyrros and Serres LLP
This lecture will address the definition of disability and what is considered an impairment by the Social Security Administration (SSA). It will also cover Social Security Disability (SSD) and Social Security Income (SSI) benefits that individuals may be entitled to and eligible for, regardless of work history. Discussion will also cover the steps for completing the complex application process, from initial filing to the final hearing before a judge. The lecture will conclude with information on how individuals can return to gainful employment without the loss of benefits.

Medical cannabis is in the news and is used more often as treatment for cancer pain and to combat the side effects of chemotherapy. However, it is still controversial and not lawful in all states. In this lecture, Dr. Huang will discuss the science and history of medical cannabis, how it differs from recreational marijuana, and when and how it can be helpful for symptom relief for patients living with cancer. She will also address the required administrative process to get a cannabis prescription in New York State.
