Dependable public transportation by waterSweden’s road ferries form an important part of the country’s public transport system. Short-cuts over the water enable millions of people to travel freely around coastal districts as well as urban and rural areas. Ferry routes also facilitate essential public services and goods transportation.

On average, eight out of ten passengers are satisfied with our service. Our ferries operate punctually, with minimal interruption to service. We run an expanding business with an insistence on profitability.

Road ferries represent an environmentally friendly choice. During transit, vehicles are requested to switch off their engines while being transported collectively. Travelling by ferry also helps reduce the impact of barrier effects on animals, nature, and maritime traffic. Our vessels run on green diesel, while fuel consumption can be reduced by more than 50% on cable ferry routes. Furthermore, we are fully committed to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

An organisation driven by the needs of its customersThe needs of our passengers and clients lie at the heart of our organisation. Divided into several districts, our 40 ferry routes are supported by a central shipping of-fice located in Vaxholm, in the Stockholm archipelago.

STA Road Ferries’ internal board of directors is led by Bo Vikström, Trafikverket.

Part of the Swedish Transport AdministrationSTA Road Ferries is a profit centre operating within the Swedish Transport Administration, the governmental authority tasked with planning, construction, operation and maintenance of the national infrastructure.

The overarching goal of Sweden´s official transport policy is to ensure accessible, dependable transport provision underpinned by an awareness of health and environmental factors.

As a profit centre, STA Road Ferries is operated on corporate lines, and our mandate is constantly evolving. We are currently riding a wave of progress: several new routes are in the pipeline, and our mission is constantly evolving in partnership with our stakeholders. We have benefited greatly from our affiliation to Sweden’s gene-ral transport authority and play an active role in the formation of Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration) 2013, which focuses on three main areas: the planning of general traffic legisla-tion, high internal efficiency and the reduction of production costs. These improvements are all being made for the public benefit.
