Thus the School of Arts and Crafts was born, its first course opened on September 26, 1886 at the headquarters of the Calle del Circo. This institution, second oldest in the city, will host the first City Library, the Vigo High School Institute, the School of Industry, Trade School, and the School of Seamanship among others

In 1900, thanks to the donation of Jose Garcia Barbon begins the course in its current location, the building built by architect Michel Pacewicz. In its donation to Council of Vigo is clearly stated the idea of donating the buildings in exchange for "free education for workers and women and the maintenance of a suitable place for the Public Library."
