Our Haverford College residential staff wants you to have the most fulfilling summer possible. They keep things in check while ensuring maximum fun. In short, our counselors are responsible, but cool, too.
Evening activities are JKCP highlights, a fun time to socialize with your new friends. Counselors plan engaging events for you to enjoy every single night of the week. Outdoor movies, talent shows, dance parties and ice cream at Hope’s (a local hot spot) with Julian are just a few favorites. We can’t wait for you to experience this!
Weekend trips are full–day excursions to explore cities and sites in and around Philadelphia! Destinations include New York City, Washington, D.C., Six Flags Great Adventure and Ocean City, New Jersey.

CODINGOur coding intensive is the summer hub for honing your programming skills. Prepare to be amazed at what you can accomplish in only two weeks! You’ll not only take your coding skills to the next level; you’ll also get a unique glimpse into the technology industry and potential careers.
Spend the first week of our coding academy learning all of the concepts surrounding application development. Practice using HTML, CSS and JavaScript to build websites and apps. Week two is devoted to designing and building your very own web-based app. Some standouts in the past include schedule-a-babysitter app, a food-ordering system, website with a calendar, a data-based program to predict future stock values and 2D, 3D and JavaScript video games developed to drive race cars, battle tanks or go on a scavenger hunt.

These terms and conditions pertain to 2018 Summer Programs and supersede any other published policies pertaining to these terms. It is the responsibility of both the parent/guardian and the child (student) to be familiar with these policies.
Participants are governed by policies set by the following and in the event of a conflict; the most stringent policy shall apply: Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs; Host and Partner Institutions (Haverford College, University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University); Federal, State and Local laws
RULES AND POLICIESBy submitting an application, both parent/guardian and child acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree with the rules and policies. All rules all are definite and will be enforced. Violation of the following rules will initiate parent contact and result the student’s dismissal. The program will not refund tuition under these circumstances. You will be asked to acknowledge these rules again as part of the welcome packet.
The child is required to abide by the following rules:
• Iwillbesensitivetotheneedsofmyfellowstudentsbytreatingthemwithrespectandcourtesy.Mybehaviorwillnotdiminish the experience of any other person.
• IwillrespectthepeoplewithwhomIcomeincontact,aswellasmysurroundings.
• Iunderstandthattheuseofprofanityand/orthreateninglanguagewillnotbetolerated.
• IunderstandthatIamexpectedtoobeythelaw.Anystudentcaughtbreakingthelawwillbesenthomeimmediately–noexceptions, no warnings, and no second chances.
• Iunderstandthatthereisazerotolerancepolicyforinvolvementwithalcoholorillegaldrugs.JKCPwillhavesoleand complete discretion in identifying and determining involvement in incidents relating to drugs and alcohol. Use,involvementwithorpossessionofalcohol,drugs,edibles,topicals,tobacco,e-cigarettes,vaporizers,anddrugparaphernalia is strictly forbidden and will result in expulsion from the program. All medication, both prescribed and over the counter, must be listed on your health information form.
• Iunderstandthattheuse,purchaseorpossessionofpornography,weapons,orfireworksisnotpermitted.
• Iunderstandthatanyviolationofcurfewmayresultinrestrictionofprivileges,andrepeatedviolationsmayresultindismissal from the program.
• Dormitoriesareco-educational,withfloorsthataresinglegender.Dormitorieshavecommonareas(asdefinedbyprogram staff) in which students are welcome to visit one another. I understand that I am expected to respect the privacy of my peers and am not allowed to visit on floors of friends of the opposite gender. If an exception is made, for example, if my program assigns team projects to be completed outside of the classroom, residential staff will supervise our group work.
• IunderstandthatstudentsarenotpermittedtoengageinanyinappropriatebehaviorwhileparticipatinginanypartoftheJKCP programs, on or off the campus.
• Iunderstandthatclassattendanceisrequiredthroughouttheprogram.Imaybeexcusedfromclassonlywiththepermission of the program director. Continued absence may lead to dismissal from the program. If my absence is approved,theprogramdirectorwilldiscussexpectationswithme.Weekendtravelmaybepermitted,ifawrittenrequestis approved by the program director.
• IunderstandthatIamrequiredtobepresentfromthefirstdaytothelastdayoftheprogram.Inrarecases,theremaybevalid reasons for a student to arrive late or depart early. Permission for such arrangements can only be considered by the programdirectorandonlyafterreceiptofawrittenrequestfromtheparent/guardian.Requestsshouldinclude:studentname, program, relevant date(s) and time(s), and the reason the student is asking to arrive late and/or depart early.

• IunderstandthatImaynevergooffcampusexceptwhenaccompaniedbyamemberoftheJKCPstaff,orwithafamilymemberorauthorizedpersonage18orolder(authorizedinwritingbyparentorguardianandverifiablewithofficialidentification). Travel may not interfere with academic commitments.
• ForstudentsresidingattheUniversityofPennsylvaniaonly:During“freetime”,IunderstandthatImaywalkwithinthe approved campus boundaries during approved hours when I am part of a group of three or more students, and that one or more in the group must be available via mobile phone at all times. I also understand that all students in the aforementioned group must sign out through the residential director’s office. The residential director has the authority to permit a student to travel unaccompanied to a location (i.e. Pottruck Gym, Wawa Convenience Store and the Penn Book Store) within the boundary. If this exception applies, students will be informed of this amendment while on campus.
• Iunderstandthatvisitationmaynotbeappropriateatallprogramsbecausestudentswillbebusywithclasses,classwork,activitiesandoffcampustrips.Forthisreason,allrequestsforvisitationmustbesubmittedinadvance,inwriting,byaparent/guardian to the program director. If the student will be departing campus by car, the visitor must be at least 21 yearsofagewithavalidID.Whenavisitorarrivesoncampus,eithercampussecurityorastaffmemberwillneedtomeetthevisitor.Onoccasion,weekendtravelmaybepermitted,ifawrittenrequestisapprovedbytheprogramdirector.Ifarequestforvisitationisapproved,Iunderstandthattheprogramdirectorwilldiscussexpectationswithmepriortomydeparture.
• IunderstandtheimportanceofcampussecurityandthatImustreportanylostkeysoridentificationcardstotheprogramdirector.
• IwillberesponsibleformypersonalbelongingsandequipmentandwillnotholdJKCPresponsibleforthelossordamagedue to my negligence.
• IwillrespectJKCP,itspartners,itsstudentsanditsstaff,whileusingtechnologyandelectronicresourcesbefore,duringand after my session. I know that any inappropriate behavior, which is harmful or negatively affects JKCP, the reputation of the programs, or potentially impacts the safety or privacy of individual students or employees, including postings on social networking sites, will not be tolerated.
• Iamresponsibleforappropriatebehaviorandcommunicationsonhostnetworks.IunderstandthatImaynot:downloadillegal files, including music and games; send or display offensive messages or pictures; use obscene language; harass, insult or attack others; damage computers, computer systems or computer networks; violate copyright laws; use another’s password; trespass in another’s work or files; or employ the network for commercial purposes.
• Iunderstandthat(unlessotherwisestated)cellphones,electronic,musicorgamingdeviceswillnotbeusedduringclassor planned activities. Exceptions may be made at the discretion of my instructor or program director.
• IunderstandthatImustenterandexitthroughapprovedentrancesandexitsonly.
• IunderstandthatImaynotbringpetsoncampusatanytime.
• Imaynotdriveacarwhileattendingthissummerprogram.
• Imaynotobtaintattoosorpiercingswhileattendingthissummerprogram.
• IunderstandthatJKCPmayestablishadditionalrulesandpoliciesthatareessentialtothestudents’achievementoftheireducational goals or to continue good relations with the host institution or community.
• IunderstandthatifIdonotabidebytheseRulesandPoliciesand/oranyotherrulesestablishedbyJKCPand/ortheprogram director, my parent/guardian will be notified, and I will be sent home. I also understand that if I am sent home early due to misconduct, I will not receive a refund and will be responsible for any costs associated with my dismissal and travel arrangements.

The following apply to the parent/guardian:
1. I understand that part of the program experience involves activities and group living arrangements and interactions that may be new to my child, and that they may come with certain risks and uncertainties beyond what my child may be used to dealing with at home. I acknowledge that I am aware of these risks, and assuming them on behalf of my child.
2. I acknowledge that no environment is risk-free, and so I have instructed my child on the importance of abiding by the program’s rules and policies. I agree that we have reviewed and understand the rules and policies and my child will obey them.
3. Although guidelines are well established and staff are well trained to put systems in place to support and protect every student, JKCP students are intentionally given the opportunity to choose options during free time, some of which will be supervisedandsomeofwhichmaybeindependent.Duringsuchfreetime,itisimperativethatstudentsrespectprogramrules and behavioral guidelines and exercise caution and good judgment to ensure their well being. Students must take responsibility for decisions made. This is a critical component of a JKCP program.
4. Mychildisenthusiasticandprepared,andIbelieve,iscapableofhandlingtheemotional,intellectualandphysicalaspects of the program as well as any risks involved.
ADMISSION Before applying to a program, the parent/guardian and child are responsible for evaluating the child’s interests and credentials carefully to determine their suitability for the selected program(s). The submission of an application constitutes an assurance that the student meets the minimum admission standards for the program; that the student is prepared linguistically, academically, and socially to succeed and derive benefits from the program; and that it is appropriate for the student’s academic program, athletic program, or goals.
Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible to ensure a spot in their desired program or to ensure that they will haveenoughtimetogatherallrequiredapplicationsupplements.Studentsmayapplytomorethanoneprogram.Admissionscommittees reserve the right to reject an applicant, and incomplete applications will not be considered.

CONFIRMATION OF PARTICIPATION JKCPmayrequireadeposit,aspartoftheprogramfee,fromeachstudentintendingtoparticipateinaprogram.Thisdepositis not an additional fee but is part of the published program fee and must be paid within seven days or registration in order to reserve a space in the program. Once the registration and deposit are received, the student is considered confirmed and the parent or guardian is held responsible for any relevant program fees.
PROGRAM FEESUnless otherwise specified, the tuition fee includes program fees, instruction, program materials, on campus meals and evening activities. Session fees are non-refundable unless Cancellation Insurance has been purchased.

PAYMENTOnce the registration and deposit are received, your child’s space is confirmed and you, the parent/guardian are responsible for ensuring that the tuition fee is paid. In the absence of an existing arrangement with a referral agent, JKCP bills the parent/guardian of the child directly.

If another designee will be managing payment of fees on your behalf, it is your responsibility to ensure that all billing information is forwarded to the designee and that payments are submitted. EXCLUSION DUE TO NON-PAYMENT OR NON-COMPLETION OF REQUIRED FORMSAnyparticipantwhofailseithertopayinfullbythestatedduedateorfailstocompletetherequiredpaperworkmaybesubjectto exclusion from participation. PROGRAM OR CLASS CANCELLATIONJKCP reserves the right to cancel a JKCP program or class due to insufficient enrollment or other factors beyond its control. All JKCP programs and classes are based on group arrangements involving a minimum number of participants. In the unlikely event that a program is cancelled prior to the start of the program, due to low enrollment or any other reason, JKCP will refund all payments received but will have no further liability to participant. When possible, JKCP will attempt to offer placement in an alternate program. In the unlikely event that a class is cancelled due to low enrollment, JKCP will place the student in his/hersecondchoice.Ifanemergencyrequiresthataprogramorclassbecancelledfollowingtheprogramstartdateandpriortothe end of a scheduled session, JKCP will make reasonable efforts to make alternative arrangements in order to allow students to complete their program.
CANCELLATION INSURANCE Julian Krinsky Camps & Programs (JKCP) offers Cancellation Insurance for the following programs: Enrichment, Golf, Tennis, Xploration; and our two-week Business School, Coding Academy, and Cooking School. There will be no refund if Cancellation Insurance is not paid in full within seven days of application. We strongly suggest purchasing Cancellation Insurance.
Who is eligible for coverage? Any student attending one of the above-mentioned programs who pays in full for Cancellation Insurance within a week of theirapplicationqualifiesforcoverage.
When does coverage begin? Coverage begins on the date that Cancellation Insurance is paid in full.

HEALTH POLICIES By registering for a program, you agree to complete your child’s health profile in full and on time as specified by the system. Failure to complete student health forms prior to arrival will result in student removal from the program without refund. Failure to disclose medical or psychiatric conditions puts the well being of the JKCP community at risk and the child may be subject to dismissal.
Upon acceptance to a program, each residential student must submit a complete and accurate health information form (which includes emergency contact information, basic health information, allergies, medications, etc.), health examination from with

18monthsofyourstartdate,immunizationrecords,waiverandacopyofthestudent’shealthinsuranceortravelersinsurancecard.Allstudentsattendingourresidentialprogramsarerequiredtohaveandprovideproofofvalidandcurrenthealthortravelers insurance.

The parent/guardian should be familiar with their health or travelers insurance policy and understand the procedures for filing aclaim.Medicalcostssuchasavisittoadoctor’soffice;hospitalin-patientoroutpatientservicesormedicationsmayberequiredatthetimeofserviceormaybebilledtotheparentorguardian.Pleaserespectourrelationshipwithourhealthcareprovidersbypayingbillsasrequired.
Thehostinstitutionmayrequireresidentialstudentstoadheretothesameimmunizationguidelinesasit’sundergraduatestudents.Thismaymeanthatyou’llbeaskingyourdoctorforimmunizationsabitearlierthantraditionaltimelines.Pleaseexplaintoyourdoctorthatyou’llbespendingyoursummerlivingonacollegecampusandtheimmunizationsarerequired.Anyrequestforexemptionmustbesubmittedinwritingtohealth@jkcp.com.Pleasenotethatnotallprogramswillallowimmunizationexemptions,especiallythosewhichtakeplaceinamedicalorhealthenvironment(example:PennMedicineSummer Program).
When completing your health information form, you must list all medications (including over the counter or nonprescription drugs) taken routinely. When sending medications to campus, keep the medication in the original package or bottle that identifiestheprescribingphysician(ifaprescriptiondrug),thenameofthemedication,thedosage,andthefrequencyofadministration. It will remain the policy of JKCP that prescription medications that are not listed on the medical form will not be allowed on campus. In addition, the amount of medication you bring to the program should meet but not exceed the proper dosage needed during your stay with us. While at the program, do not alter your medication routine. You must continue to take your medications as you normally would at home.
YouauthorizeJKCP,atitssolediscretion,toplaceyourchildatmyownexpenseandwithoutanyfurtherconsentoradvancenotice in a hospital for medical services and treatment or, if no hospital is readily available, to place your child in the care of a licensed medical doctor for treatment.
By completing the application form, I ensure that the health history provided is correct, so far as I know, and my child has permission to engage in all prescribed program activities except as noted. In the event that the designated emergency contactscannotbereachedinanemergency,IgivepermissiontothephysicianselectedbyJKCPtohospitalize,securepropertreatment for, and also give JKCP permission to administer therapeutic/appropriate dosage of over-the-counter medication (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, bismuth subsalicylate, diphenhydramine, etc.) to my child as deemed necessary by the nursing staff. I understand that JKCP might need to take prompt action in the event that my child is injured or becomes ill and that my child may not be near the residential facility, therefore the medical facility selected may be in a different location than the host institution. JKCP appreciates the possibility that my child might have multiple doctors and knows that I made every effort tocompletethehealthexaminationformthatcoordinateswiththeprescribedmedicinemychildistakingbutrealizetheremight be an oversight. In the event of an omission, I agree to hold JKCP harmless for any and all occurrences arising out of the omission.

MEDIA RELEASE

JKCP, and our host or partner institutions, retain the right to use any media including, but not limited to, photographs, video, projects, works and social media participation of my child for media or advertising purposes without any notice both now and in the future and without compensation whatsoever, therefore.
JKCP takes photographs and video of program activities, some of which may be used on our website, on social media and other promotional marketing pieces. Your child may appear in one or more of these photographs or videos. By registering, you agree to allow JKCP to use these photos and video for media or advertising.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTUREAll residential programs begin on a Sunday and end on a Saturday. Early arrival on Saturday may be available for purchase. Please review your welcome packet for exact arrival times, locations, and special instructions.
If you want a JKCP staff member to assist with your Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) arrival or departure (rather than arranging your own taxi or car service), you may add pick-up or drop-off service to your account. Pick-ups and drop-offs are $50eachway.(Exceptionnote:LeadershipintheBusinessWorldofferscomplimentaryservicetoandfromPHLonly.)
OFF CAMPUS PROGRAM ACTIVITIESI understand that program activities, including courses, field trips, evening activities and weekend activities may take place at a location other than the host institution. By acknowledging these Terms & Conditions I give permission to take my child off campus for program activities.
PROPERTY DAMAGE AND SECURITY AGREEMENT All residential students may be issued one or more of the following: room key, lock combination, building key, key card or identificationcardbythecampus.Mychildisresponsibleforlockingthedoortohis/herdormroomwhenhe/shedeparts.Students are instructed not to leave dorm rooms open when they are not present. Campus security is taken very seriously and safety measures must be taken immediately if a key or card is lost.
BysigningtheTerms&Conditions,mychildagreesthathe/sheisresponsibleforimmediatelyreportinganylostkeysorIDcards to his/her residential or program director. Once reported, I understand that I will be billed for the lost item(s) which may costasmuchas$350.
Mychildalsoagreestoturninanykeysandidentificationcardsduringcheckout.Aftercheckout,IunderstandthatIwillbebilled for any keys or identification cards that were not turned in to security. JKCP will not accept keys and cards that are returned via mail after checkout is completed.
Mychildagreestoreportanydamagethathe/shehascausedtotheirroomorcampusproperty.Theresidentialorprogramdirector will report the damage to the campus and determine whether the student should be held responsible for the damage. Ifmychildisheldresponsible,IunderstandthatIwillbebilledanamountequaltotheestimatedcostofrepairprovidedbythe college or university.
LAUNDRY SERVICE POLICY Optional laundry service is available for purchase at Haverford College and Villanova University. If a student plans to use the laundry service, the parent or guardian is responsible for permanently marking the name of the student on all personal items. Foranon-refundablefeeof$25perweek,studentsmayturnintheirlaundrytobecleanedandthenreturnedtothemwithin1–2businessdays.Thisfeemaybepaidinadvanceorstudentsmaypaythecampbankdirectlyforthisservice.
JKCP does not accept any accountability for natural flaws, defects or weaknesses in the materials which may result in but are not limited to tears, color loss, color bleeding, shrinkage, occurrence of holes in the fabric. The process of cleaning and laundering carries with it some inherent risks, which we cannot guarantee against. JKCP does not guarantee removal of all stains.JKCPwillre-launderitemsthatwerenotproperlycleanedandnotyetwornsincetheyhavebeencleaned.Regardlessofbrand, condition prior to drop-off or age of garment, JKCP’s total liability with respect to any damaged or lost garment(s) shall not exceed the charge for cleaning that garment. If a student residing at Haverford or Villanova prefers to do their own laundry, he/she may make arrangements with his/her ProgramDirectortousethelaundryfacilitiesinthedorm.Cardaccessorpaymentmayberequiredforthisoption.

LIABILITY / FORCE MAJEURE / GENERAL TERMSJulianKrinskyCamps&Programs(“JKCP”)doesnotownoroperateanyentitythatprovidesgoodsorservicesforyourchild’sprogram including, for example, campus or lodging facilities (such as dormitories), transportation companies, restaurants, food service, educational or entertainment providers, etc. As a result, JKCP is not liable for any negligent or willful act or failure to act of any such person, or of any other third party not under our direct control. Without limiting the foregoing, JKCP accepts no responsibility for any risk or resulting injury, delay, inconvenience, damage, or death which results from acts of government, nuclear reaction or incidents, criminal activity, weather or other acts of God, accidents, disease, epidemics or the threat thereof, illness, the provision of inappropriate or no medical attention or the lack of access to same, the demands of indoor or outdoor activities, activities engaged in by your child during free or unsupervised time, strikes, political or civil unrest, structural or other defective conditions in dormitories, overbooking, acts of terrorism or the threat thereof, insurrection or revolt, or any other event beyond its direct control.
JKCP is obligated to observe and follow all State, Federal and Local guidelines for the reporting of child abuse, under-age or illegal activities. We reserve the right to follow these guidelines even if it means notifying the appropriate authorities prior to notifying the parent or guardian. Any and all disputes concerning the student’s involvement at JKCP, which relate thereto, or theProgramitself,shallberesolvedsolelybybindingarbitrationinMontgomeryCounty,Pennsylvaniainaccordancewiththe then existent commercial rules of the American Arbitration Association. In any such arbitration the substantive (but not procedural) laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shall apply.
Arbitration. Any dispute concerning this or any other literature or any other form of communication concerning the program, any oral representations or comments by JKCP, which relate thereto, or the program itself, shall be resolved solely by binding arbitrationinMontgomeryCounty,PennsylvaniainaccordancewiththethenexistentcommercialrulesoftheAmericanArbitration Association. In any such arbitration the substantive (but not procedural) laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shall apply.
