THIS IS COMPASSIONCompassion Christian Church
Enhancing Trust in Christ-Centered Churches and Ministries
Leading people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus.
Dear friends,
I am grateful that we are partners in the most important work in the world!
Fifty-four years ago our church began inviting people to know Jesus in a life-changing way. Our people showed compassion to friends and neighbors. One of our oldest members remembers how the gift of a much-needed bag of groceries led her family to our church, where she still worships and serves.
So much has changed in these 54 years. And so much has remained the same. We now worship in seven locations and in two languages. We have partners around the world, but our mission is still to lead people to Jesus.
2017 was a monumental year for us. We welcomed thousands of people who visited for the first time. We celebrated hundreds of baptisms. We showed compassion to people across the street and around the world.
Thank you for allowing Jesus to work in you and through you.
Grace and peace,

DOWNTOWN CAMPUS
Our campus includes college students, young families, retirees. We meet in a theatre in the historic district. It’s beautiful but it’s hard. Every week we load in and out because we share our space.
It’s challenging, but this community is home. We all belong here because we all belong to God. God has raised up incredibly diverse, spirit-filled leaders who champion every part of our ministry. Volunteers are leading college ministries, opening a room in their home to a student in need. Others are pouring into new musicians, and others started a men’s ministry.
We’ve celebrated baptisms for people like Kalli, a college student who left a life of rebellion and drugs to accept peace in Jesus, and like Rhonda, a woman who lost everything in Matthew and was just getting on her feet when Irma hit. She gave her life to Jesus, knowing that hope lies only in Him.
God is pouring grace upon us, and in every challenge, He proves Himself glorious.

This year we began seeing the fruit of our new children’s and student building. With beautiful, highly functional facilities, these ministries for kids of all ages grew larger than ever. We’ve also added a very important component, the Free to Fly ministry for children with special needs. This ministry serves children not only on Sundays but also one evening a month so parents can enjoy a bit of respite time.
We also now have a dedicated space for our PACK ministry. Families come at set times and pack 2,000 bags of food a month for children in need. This ministry touches many people, from children and adults who pack and write encouraging notes and verses to the school children who receive them.
The people who serve at East Campus serve with joy, and it’s contagious. They’ve found the place where their unique gifts meet their passion, and they’re making a real difference. We have a great sense of community and family that overflows into our Life Groups. It’s a great place to be.

EAST CAMPUS
EFFINGHAM CAMPUS
What an amazing year! We’ve seen tremendous growth, many baptisms and so many people committing to serve or to join a Life Group for the first time. The campus also welcomed a new pastor.
“I can say with certainty, as someone who’s been here from day one, that God has done far more than we could have imagined 7 years ago,” Marcus Johnson said.
He continues to do amazing things through the people of Effingham, including the Clark family. Josh and Jessaka Clark adopted a sibling group of seven this year. It has been amazing to see our community rally around them as they made a courageous choice to do for others what God did for them. And they didn’t stop there! They brought another child into their home around Christmas, growing their family of three to a family of 11 in less than 12 months.
So many people said, “Yes!” to God this year. God has been faithful, keeping His promises and exceeding our expectations.

This was a year of welcoming hundreds of new families to our newly expanded campus. Fun outreach events including one at Easter in addition to three theatre productions brought people here who might not normally come to church. Baseball great Daryl Strawberry shared his story of coming to know Jesus at the Pivot Conference for men and at weekend worship, drawing many from across the region.
We began streaming our services live on social media, reaching hundreds of people here and around the world. People who are sick, deployed, incarcerated, working or living afar can now experience worship with us live. We also began capturing our deaf interpreter and sharing online. Our new app is quickly becoming a way for people to stay connected and share messages and events with others.
Our Latino Service welcomed a new pastor and continues to be a new home for Spanish speakers from many countries.

Our location came to be because of the courageous leadership of Grace Christian Church, who gave their property to Compassion Christian, putting a campus within driving distance of Fort Stewart/Hinesville and is reaching families as far south as Darien and Ludowici.
Each week nearly 400 children and adults worship here. So many needs – those seen and unseen – are met by more than 85 volunteers who welcome, lead worship, prepare communion, teach children and more. Their love for God and people is truly inspiring.
One family who attends had been inviting their grandmother to Compassion Christian in Savannah for years. When the Midway location opened, they invited her once more. Though 69 and outside the church for years, she visited and immediately felt at home. She began serving and recently came forward in tears, saying she needed Jesus to save her. How beautiful to see this lady baptized by her granddaughter!

We faced several transitions in 2017: making our new building a home and seeing several staff members leave to pursue the next thing Jesus has for them. We learned that this is Jesus’ church, and we need only to trust Him to lead.
A couple in our church said they wanted to bless students by feeding them each week. That gift helped launch our Sunday night college gathering, where we share a meal together at one long table. That ministry is growing deeper and wider each week.
Several students are interning with us as they ask God to clarify the call on their life. Volunteers are taking greater and greater responsibility for every area of ministry. And we are seeing the power of prayer. In 2016, we had a strong core of about ten people devote themselves to an hour of prayer at 6 a.m. over the course of 21 days. In 2017, more than 50 people took up that challenge, and 80% were college students.
