This is a different method of QA and this we export directly from the equipment, both GPS and TPS are very similar. The surveyors back up their equipment and export these files after every working day. Below is the set-up showing residuals and proceeding that would be all the work done from that set-up, in this case it is stakeout. Each activity will have it’s heading.

First things first

Aside from marks on shutters or piling points, most staked-out points have a height reference. SW23 below is a Storm Water manhole. We take 2 recorded readings when setting out such features, note in green is the first recording. Here the position on the ground is set-out, you can see that the invert is 1.981 below ground, we label this with the suffix “so” (set out). In orange is the second recording, here the surveyor is holding the pole on the side of the peg and is setting a travel of 2.5m to invert. Note he will suffix “-2.5” to the code.

Additional DATA

The surveyor also exports from his equipment a YXZ ascidia file showing a worst possible case co-ord error on the right. This column is monitored closely with rtk GPS work. The below file we can read into our survey modelling/CAD package.

Behind the scenes

We pride ourselves on quality. All our equipment is Swiss made by Leica and of the System 1200 variant, their very best.

Our machines are running QA log files separate to the manual files we produce.Further to that...

You may not pass GO

In this example the surveyor is trying to set-out point “Rhs23”. To demonstrate what happens if a surveyor tries to record an incorrect point position, or height or position quality (2D and 3D), the second screen appears. We set our machines to only accept differences as defined by specification or we use our default settings. This attempted recording is out in all 3 dimensions AND in quality, this is because he has lost satellite lock.He must press “back” and re-measure.

We can also review our jobs on PC and each reading is recorded with all it’s associated data.

To Conclude We record every point we set-out Our equipment runs independent logs Our machines have tolerances and

warnings built into all onboard programs Data is streamed in the sequence of

work, you have complete assurance of the quality of work we are doing
