4 Attachment and Removal of Film Backs

The f i lm back is a f i lm cham-ber that can be attached or de-tached f reely f rom the mainbody, thus permitt ing f ree ex-change of f i l rn types, at a l lt imes. Since the main body andf i lm back are always fu l ly cou-pled, upon connection, alwaysturn the f i lm winding crankcompletely one t ime, upon at-taching the f i lm back. l f wind-ing is not possible, al l prepara-t ions for taking the picture havebeen completed. l f winding ispossible, however, rotating thef i lm w ind ing c rank un t i l i t s topsautomatically takes care of theincompleted act ion, whether un-cocked shutter or f i lm not ad-vanced. Th is means, of course, that i t 's possible to choose thefi lm type most suited for theshot, even midway in a ro l l .

An ASA/ISO f i lm speed dia land an exposure compensationdial are avai lable on the f i lmbacks. When used for sett ing thef i lm speed of the f i lm loadedin the f i lm back, there is auto-mat ic coupl ing when f inders

with built- in exposure metersare attached on the main body. This wil l , of course, be very con-venient when using f i lms of d i f -ferent sensi t iv i t ies in the f i lmbacks.

iF Make fu l l use of f i lm back in-terchangeabil i ty, in the f ol low-tng manner:-1. Take ful l advantage of themult i-format superiority of theGS-l and use f i lm backs inmany different formats, wh ichwi l l not only g ive you di f ferenteffects but wil l economize onf i lm .2. Take \/our pictures in colorand black-and-white, and in dif-ferent f i lm speeds, as required.3. Keep a suf f ic ient guant i ty ofpreloaded f i lm backs on handand speedy, continuous shoot-ing wi l l be possib le.4. Don' t waste unsui table f i lmused in a previous session buts imply load up a new f i lm backwith the required f i lm type.5. The Polaroid Fi lm Back canbe used for instant color orblack-and-white pictures, when

in a rush, or used for checkingcomposit ion or l ighting effect, before taking the actual picture.

{F Film backs are avaifable op-tionally and the type meetingthe requirernents of the photog-rapher should be chosen.

* When using f inders wi th abui l t - in exposure meter, expo-sure measurements should notbe taken wi th the depth of f ie ldpreview lever depressed, as theshutter speed indicated wi l lcause over-exposure. This is be-cause proper exposures are ob-ta ined wi th exposure measure-ments made at the f u l l aperture.

B. The depth of f ie ld scale, next to the distance scales, shows the zone of apparentsharpness at any lens openingor d istance and is made up ofident ical pairs of apertures onboth s ides of the distance index. These ident ical pairs of aper-tures indicate the distance thatwi l l be in focus at these aper-tures. For example, i f the 100mm lens is focused at a d istanceof 3 meters, it can be seen f romthe depth of f ie ld scale that thezone w i l l ex tend f rom2.2 to 4 .8meters, when a lens opening ofF22 i s used .

In inf rared photography, someadjustment is required in thefocus in order to retain sharp-ness on the f i lm, because theinvis ib le inf rared rays are longerin wave length than the v is ib lerays used for focusing. For inf rared photography : -1 . The battery supplies power forthe various electronic controlmechanisms incorporated in theZenza Bronica GS-l . When usedincorrect ly , there is possib i l i tyof the wrong exposure being setto the camera and/or the cameranot operat ing.Be sure to use and store thebattery correctly for obtainingoptimum performance from itat a l l t imes.

* Take the battery out of thebattery chamber when storingthe camera.* Leaving the battery in thecamera for a long t ime, wi thoutusing it, oan lead to leakageproblems and result in poorcontact.Discard a battery with leakageor corrosion and thoroughlyclean out the battery chamber, before inserting a new battery.* Clean the contacts of thebattery chamber and batterywith a soft cloth. Don't usesandpaper or emery c loth.

* Don't throw the battery intoa f i re, or h i t i t s t rongly, as thereis danger of explosion.* Either a silver oxide battery(Nlo. 5441PX2814G13) or analkaline manganese batterY(A54414LR44) is used with theZenza Bronica GS-l. Both havevery good cold weather resist-ance. However, there is a tend-ency for performance to droPwhen the temperature falls be-low oo c (32' F ). Therefore, make it a rule to use a new bat-tery and/or keep replacementbat ter ies on hand for shoot ingoutdoors in f reezing weather.Keep the battery (and camera)under cover, next to the body, and load just before beginningthe session and/or , preferablY,use the optional Remote CameraBattery Pack E.
