Paracord Every Day Carry (EDC) belt. by
Athoy ad elly "rau#ovember $% &' "y CreekNOTE: This is a post written by Anthony and Kelly Braun.
After attending Creeks Survival 101 course and a talk from him about Every Day Carry (EDC)
began looking at my EDC! "asnt carrying much survival gear as my EDC# so began
investigating mini survival kits! "anted to find something that didnt have to remember to grab
every day and something unobtrusive that didnt take u$ a lot of bulk in my $ocket! %he ty$ical
mint tin version "as out! "anted to create an EDC mini survival kit that "ould easily remember
and "ould not take u$ too much s$ace! had been making $aracord bracelets for & months $rior to
taking Creeks courses and found one $articularly useful "eave called the 'adder ack or %rilobite!
(ere is the video linkto making the bracelet that used!) A nice feature of this "eave is that it hasa$$ro* + feet of $aracord $er inch of bracelet! (%he standard Cobra ,not has about 1 foot of cord
$er inch of bracelet!) 'ooking at that "eave envisioned tra$$ing items inside the cavity of the
"eave for safe kee$ing! n order to accommodate everything "anted# reali-ed "ould need a
longer area than a bracelet# so thought. "hy not make it a belt/ "ear one daily any"ay# it doesnt
take u$ s$ace in my $ockets# and by making it this "ay no one "ould sus$ect have an EDC
survival kit "ith su$$lies to do many things!
*itial Thou+hts%here are some dra"backs to this $roect# the first one being the belt si-ing! t is not adustable# soonce its made significant "eight gain or loss "ill cause you to have to make another belt! Second#
its not uick2release to access su$$lies or use the $aracord# as it takes some time to un"eave the
belt! (3y first attem$t took me +0 minutes to un"ind) %hird# s$ecific items in the belt cannot be
accessed individually# one "ould have to un"eave the belt and get access to all the items! 4ut once
the belt is unraveled# it contains uite a fe" su$$lies that "ould greatly aid survival if had nothing
else and "as stranded5 "ould be far ahead of the curve# at least!
f you have not seen the ladder rack "eave or made a bracelet "ith it# suggest you $ractice before
attem$ting the belt! 'earning the $attern "ithout trying to hold e*tra items inside "ill make the
construction much easier! modified the "eave a bit by adding an e*tra turn of cord do"n the
length of the belt! %his added some "idth (and therefore more holding room for su$$lies)# andadded to the amount of $aracord $er inch of finished belt! ere is ho" made my belt6
,u--ly list (ad the use * foresee) $aracord 100ft (multi$le uses including shelter)
"histle on buckle (rescue)
7 snack si-e -i$loc bags ("ater collection8carrying# kee$ing tinder dry)
condom ("ater carrying) coffee filter ("ater filtration)

70 in of ute t"ine (fire starting tinder)
70in of military tri$ "ire (snare making for food)
safety $in (uick re$airs# s$are fish hook# s$linter removal)
7 -i$ ties (attaching8lashing items# makeshift handcuffs)
: storm $roof matches "ith striker (fire making)
70 feet of fishing line "ith fishing hook (food)
cam$ing "ire sa" (cutting "ood for fire or shelter)
+0in of late* tubing (stra" to get hard to reach "ater# tourniuet# slingshot for hunting)
fle*ible mirror (signaling)
+ "ater $urification tablets# individually "ra$$ed
1 electrolyte re$lacement tab (dehydration $revention)
%here are many "ays to modify this list and customi-e the belt! ;ust remember that everything you
add needs to be able to be stored in essentially a long thin tube!
The belt maki+ -rocess started "ith 100 feet of $aracord# a buckle# and all the survival gear "anted to include! %his
changed throughout the $rocess# as some items ust didnt fit and others had to eliminate "hen
ran out of s$ace! %he list above is my final su$$ly list that actually "ent into the belt! As
mentioned above its a one si-e belt and not adustable. so# started "ith one of my current belts
and used that for measurements! measured out the

n the $icture you can see there are four lines running bet"een the + ends of the buckle! %hen
brought the + loose ends back along the outside to the male end once more and started the knot to
begin the "eave!

ere is the starting knot $ulled tight! f you are not careful it is easy for the length of the "hole belt
to change "hile tightening the first knot! had to remeasure it freuently and kee$ t"eaking it to
kee$ the same length! =nce you get a fe" rounds of the "eave do"n# the length holds tight and itsno longer an issue!

Also# at this $oint did a fe" other things to make it easier to do the "eave "ith such a large
amount of cord6
>irst# baled each length of cord into about ? inch loo$s and secured them so "as ust "eaving
"ith bundle instead of the entire length of cord ("hich "ould ust knot u$)! >or the maority of the

belt there is $lenty of slack and it "orks great! f you get to the end and have a large bale left you
"ill need to undo it and ust thread the cord as a single strand!
%hen also took some ta$e and secured the four inner cords ust to kee$ them lined u$ so they
didnt become t"isted during the "eaving $rocess!

%hen the final thing did to hel$ identify the lines and kee$ them straight (but also to secure
materials for the kit) "as to "ra$ the ute around one of the outer cords! secured this "ith an
overhand knot at each end and "ra$$ed the snare "ire around the other side!
ere are the items ready to start "eaving the in the belt! "ra$$ed each storm$roof match inaluminum foil then secured that to the cam$ sa"! did the same for the fishing line! did this to
kee$ the small items from moving around and $ossibly falling out of the belt (or stabbing me in the
back) and also to cover the sa" so it didnt "ear through the $aracord "ra$$ed around it! stored
the condom in one of the -i$loc bags rolling it length"ise! also folded and secured the coffee filter
in another -i$loc bag# and the 9E% cotton ball in a third! took each one of the -i$ ties and rolled
one of the -i$loc bags around it!

4asically ust laid the items on to$ of the : strands of the cord through the middle of the belt and
"ove around it! had to overla$ some of the items length"ise so they fit but tried to even
everything out so it didnt make the belt too stiff in some $arts and flimsy in others!
Above is the belt in $rocess! didnt "orry too much about getting everything tight and even at the

beginning! ust "ove the belt so everything "as tra$$ed in it then after"ards "ent back through
and tightened everything u$ starting at the far end "orking do"n to"ard the end "here the
unsecured lines "ere! tightened + ro"s at a time so it "as easier to kee$ track of "hich $art
needed to $ull on ne*t to tighten!
%he initially com$leted belt is seen above! %hen belo" is the belt in $rocess of it being $ulled tight!
As you can see there "as significant slo$ in the initially com$leted belt! only had about one foot of
cord left "hen first finished! After tightening the entire belt ended u$ "ith about @ feet e*tra on
each $iece! All that is left is to finish the belt by your $referred finishing method5 either by cutting
off and melting the ends or using fibs to tuck a length of cord back into a half do-en or so "eaves!

=ne final $iece added "as the + metal key rings that came "ith the cam$ sa" about & inches from
either end! %hat $laces them right about "here my hands fall! use them for cli$$ing carabiners and
carrying additional items!
/ial thou+hts0 1e2evaluatio%he belt did end u$ being a little tight around my "aist# as forgot to take into account ho" thick
the tubing (along "ith everything else layered in there) "ould end u$! hen make my ne*t one#
"ill $robably try to add a half inch to the initial length of the belt! %he other thing "as considering
"as using a flat rubber tourniuet in $lace of the tubing! "ould then lose the stra" ca$abilities but
"ould decrease the belts bulk significantly! Another thing that could $ossibly be used "ould be flat
surgical tubing (sometimes called a 9enrose drain)! %his could be used for the stra" $ur$ose but
"ould be kind of like sucking the end of a free-er $o$! 4ut this "ould make a good tourniuet andslingshot! Also# $ut all the items on "hat "ould be the inside of the belt but some of the aluminum
foil shifted and ended u$ on the front surface# and it is no" some"hat visible! %his is not a huge
$roblem but it brings attention to the fact that this is not ust a belt but something more! "ould like
to deaden the reflection someho"! Another area to change might be the buckle itself! have seen
different belt buckles for sale that have had a small com$artment to store items (the "ater tabs/) or
one that has a com$ass on it! ha$$ened to have "histle buckles around so used one of them!
So# "hat do you think/ >eel free to comment on "ays to im$rove or other ideas this might s$ark for
you!
Creek3s Additioal Commets>irst# that is ama-ing that you guys "ere able to get those su$$lies (and $aracord) into a com$act#

nondescri$t belt! %hat is a full blo"n survival kitB love it "hen $eo$le $ush the limits of
creativity "hen it comes to carrying basic survival su$$lies on their $erson! istory re$orts time
and time again (almost every "eek) that victims of sudden and une*$ected survival scenarios could
dramatically benefit from very sim$le survival su$$lies like the ones youve included in this EDC
belt! "ear a belt every single day and its the $erfect clothing item to modify in such a "ay! After
reading this $ost# m only left "ith one uestion6 WHEN CAN I BU ONE!!!!!
