EASTER ENERGY On Easter morning when the disciples saw the evi-dence of the Resurrection, they did not at first grasp it. John reports that "they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead." We, on the other hand, have both scripture and church tradi-tion to teach us. Jesus Christ's resurrection is at the core of our Christian faith. All of today's readings tell us how compelling this event was for the first Christians. There is great en-ergy in all the readings. Peter preaches with authority and conviction. Paul calls for Christians to change their lives. In the Gospel reading we see Peter and John in a footrace to reach Jesus' tomb and see with their own eyes the evidence that they still could not understand or completely believe. How can some of this Easter energy be restored to us today? Do we let the astonishing news of the Resur-rection touch us now? Does it call us to action? To deeper faith? To conversion? What new life will be re-born in us and our parish community this Easter morn-ing? Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

The Diocese of Joliet is beginning preparations for its next mission to Naivasha, Kenya (September 6th to September 21th, 2013). An Information Evening for prospective missioners will be held on Thursday, April 4th, 2013 at 7:00 PM at the St. Charles Pastoral Center, 101 W. Airport Rd., Romeoville. Persons interested in participating in this mission are invited to attend. We are looking for persons with willing hands and loving hearts. For this medical team we will need Infec-tious Disease and Internal Medicine practitioners, Surgeons in allspecialties and anesthesiologists and/or CRNA’s. There is also need for RN’s and APN’s to serve in pediatric, obstetrical, post-op and OR units. We are also seeking a dentist and physical therapist.

For the construction team, we need people to assist repairing homes and doing general handyman types of jobs.

Applications must be submitted by April 22nd. You may download an application from our website: www.paxjoliet.org/missions/Mission_FORM.doc. For additional information on our missions go to www.paxjoliet.org/missions.

The people of Naivasha are very poor. The population has been devastated by HIV/AIDS. The economic outlook is poor and there are very few opportunities for employment. This is a life changing opportunity to make a difference as Jesus and Pope Francis are asking us to do. The face of Christ is visible in the face of every person that our missioners encounter.

Questions? Call Missions Coordinator, Deacon Bruce Carlson 815-834-4017.

¿A profundizar nuestra fe?

Stewardship Thought for the Week

He saw and he believed. They have done the running for us. These witnesses who followed Christ, rose before dawn, felt fear at the tomb, ran to get others, ran back, and probably breathless, peered in and then walked into the tomb. It is not what they saw, but what they did not see that gave them great hope; that makes this day glorious for us. Sunday March 17, 2013
