PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY
This weekend we celebrate Priesthood Sunday. It is a
special time set aside to honor all priests. Please take time
to let Fr. Girotti (and all other priests who provide service to
this parish) know how much you appreciate their service
and dedication...not just this weekend, but many times
throughout the year. Let us keep them in our prayers.
ADORATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Due to the installation of the new kneelers on October
29, 30, and 31, Adoration, Benediction and Confession
on Wednesday, October 30 is canceled. We will still have
8:30 am Mass each day.
ANNUAL MEMORIAL MASS
Sunday, November 3, at the 9 am Mass, Cathedral Parish
welcomes the families of those people who were buried
from our parish this past year. Coffee and rolls will be
served after Mass in the BWC.
CATHEDRAL KEEPERS MEETING There will be a Cathedral Keepers Meeting on Tuesday,
November 5 and a repeat meeting on Thursday November
7 at 9:30 am in the Bishop Wycislo Center. We will
review safety precautions and guest questions and needs.
These issues are very important, so Keepers must attend
one of these meetings.
CLERGY & STAFF
RESERVED SPACES A reminder that the eight parking stalls located between the
Gehl Center and the back of the Cathedral are reserved for
staff, bishops, deacons and concelebrating priests to allow
them to be able to park near the church at all times.
NEW SECURITY MEASURE In keeping the safety and welfare of our Cathedral Keepers,
staff and guests in mind, we will now have only the
handicap set of doors to the Bishop Wycislo Center open
after weekday morning Masses.
If you have visited our parish website and opened an Online
Giving account and would like to have your envelopes
discontinued, be sure to call the parish office. If you would
still like to drop your envelope in the collection basket each
week, you may check the box that says, "I give online".
That option is provided if you still would like to put an
envelope into the offertory basket. Either way, thank you
for opening an Online Giving account.
SMALL PRAYER GROUPS RETURN We are in the process of forming “Small Prayer Groups”
once again. Formation of new group leaders will begin this
fall using Matthew Kelly’s “Rediscovering Advent”. They
will learn to organize small prayer groups, and a mentor
will be assigned to walk with them. “Rediscovering
Advent” is available in the parish office for group leaders.
The original group leaders will meet on Tuesday, October
29, to discern the type of prayer form they want to use in
the spring. Leaders will be calling to see if you would like
to return to your original group. Sign up for spring of 2014
will be in December, dates and times to be announced.
DID YOU KNOW……….?
A Cathedral parishioner since 1999, Larry Fuchs, is a
thurifer (tends the thurible, or incensor for the Priest or
Deacon) for Benediction. Larry leads the rosary before
Mass. He has been making coffee and setting up for the
Sunday Morning Coffee & Rolls with his wife, Marge
since its beginning, as well. Larry is a reader and an
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, has been
involved with our RCIA program for several years and
ushers! If that isn’t enough, Larry drives from Denmark to
serve the parish in all these ministries. Thank you, Larry,
for being such an amazing steward of your time and talent.
God bless you!
From Our Pastor
My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Seventh Commandment: “You shall not steal”
This commandment is perhaps the most straight-forward and easiest to understand. Don’t take what is
not yours! Pretty basic – the stuff most of us learned in kindergarten. However, like all of the
commandments, there is more here than first meets the eye. Let’s learn more about it.
The Seventh Commandment forbids the unjust taking or keeping of the goods of one’s
neighbor. It also forbids wronging him in any way with respect to his goods. The virtues of
justice and charity are the two pillars that make up the seventh commandment. Justice demands
that each is given his due in life. Charity requires that we love others and treat them as brothers
and sisters.
The resources of the earth have been given to all of us and they are for our benefit and
enjoyment. However, the right of private property is subordinate to this universal destination of
goods whereby God has blessed and entrusted all of us with the resources of our world.
Governments exist to regulate the legitimate exercise of private ownership while
balancing it with the common good. Although theft always involves a sin against the seventh commandment,
nevertheless for a serious reason, and in the case of urgent necessity, the essential needs for survival which
include food, water, shelter, and clothing can be taken even against the consent of the owner. Such an action
would not be immoral because of this universal destination of goods.
Sins against the Seventh Commandment can also include the deliberate keeping of objects lost by others,
business fraud, paying unjust wages, extortion of money from those in need, work intentionally poorly done,
laziness on the job, tax evasion, unnecessary or irresponsible gambling, forgery of checks or invoices, cheating,
and excessive waste. All of these activities in one way or another constitute stealing from another person.
Restitution, if possible, is required in making amends for the sin of theft. In justice, we must always pay back
what we have unjustly taken from others.
The uncharitable treatment of other people can also be a form of stealing. Slavery is always morally
reprehensible because it presumes to treat another human being as an object which is solely used for monetary
gain. Animals can be used for human benefit – for food, clothing, or labor. However, animals must be treated
with dignity and never abused. It is contrary to our human dignity to cause animals to suffer or to die needlessly.
Other created things, indeed the entire earth, must be treated with respect. Pollution and needless destruction of
the environment is theft from future generations who deserve an intact planet.
Everything we have is a gift from God. Sins against the Seventh Commandment are really sins of
ingratitude for what we have been given in life. May we treat others with justice and charity while together
thanking God for the gift of life.
May God Bless You.

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT Hello, my name is Jordan Kieltyka. I am a member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and am working towards my
Eagle Scout Award. As a requirement for this prestigious award, I must plan, manage, and complete a service
project. The service project I chose is to do landscaping around the Gehl Center. For this project, I will be adding
low lying shrubbery, adding beautiful stone around the building, as well as installing a railing leading up to the
front door on Madison Street. But I need your help! The project will cost around $750. If you are able to make a
contribution please place your donation in an envelope addressed to me (Jordan Kieltyka) and forward it to the
Parish Office. Thank you in advance for your support!

“This Changes Everything”
Many religions make contrasting claims
about Jesus. Even different Christian
denominations can’t decide what they
believe. So how do we know what’s true?
In this talk, Ken Yasinski gets to the heart of the issue by
looking at what Jesus said about Himself and the impact
this has on us.

MARY GARDEN GUILD A SPECIAL THANK YOU to the MARY GARDEN GUILD for sharing their time, talent and treasure to tend the
cathedral's Mary Garden and Rosary Garden. As St. Teresa wrote: "Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the
world." The Mary Garden Guild's dedication and love for Our Blessed Mother bloomed in beauty again this season, in
an outdoor place for peaceful prayer. The Guild is composed of novice to master gardeners and always welcomes new
members. Consider joining us next spring!
