About Worship

If the liturgy (worship) of the Episcopal Church is unfamiliar, then we hope you will find this information helpful.

About Receiving The Holy Communion

ALL who come in faith are invited to receive Holy Communion at Saint Paul’s.

• During communion, the people form two short lines in the center aisle at the steps. After receiving the bread and wine or a blessing at the altar rail, please exit through the door to the left of the altar and return to your pew via the side aisles.

• For those who may prefer not to receive communion at the main altar, a communion station is provided on the main floor to the right of the center aisle. If you are unable to receive at either station, the clergy will bring the bread and wine to your pew. Please notify an usher before the service begins.

• To receive a blessing at the altar rail without receiving Communion, cross your arms over your chest, palms on your collar, until the person on your left has received both the bread and the wine.

• If your children are in the nursery, you are invited to bring them to receive Holy Communion or a blessing.

The Epistle Hebrews 11:29-12:2

By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as if it were dry land, but when the Egyptians attempted to do so they were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell after they had been encircled for seven days. By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had received the spies in peace.

And what more should I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets—who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched raging fire, escaped the edge of the sword, won strength out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. Women received their dead by resurrection. Others were tortured, refusing to accept release, in order to obtain a better resurrection. Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were stoned to death, they were sawn in two, they were killed by the sword; they went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, persecuted, tormented—of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.

Yet all these, though they were commended for their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better so that they would not, apart from us, be made perfect.

The Nicene Creed Said by all, standing

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

5:30 - 6:15 pm — Celtic Evening Prayer & Communion. Rob Foster is our guest musician.

5:00 - 6:30 pm — HUMAN FOOSBALL EYC (Episcopal Youth Community - grades 6-12) Kick-off. We will begin the evening with a cook-out style picnic and move onto the main Foosball event. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Please wear closed-toe shoes. If you have never heard of “Human Foosball,” this is the perfect opportunity to come see what it is all about. Youth leaders will be providing super-soaker cooling stations, so bring athletic clothes that are okay to get wet! Please contact Ranie with questions at rneislar@saintpauls.org.

The Canterbury Choir (children in grades 3-9) kicks off its season with a Lock-In Friday night and Saturday morning, August 19-20. The singers will have a chance to reacquaint, enjoy trips to the 8th Street Fountain, the Saint Paul’s Churchyard and Crypt, and get a head start on learning new music. Pizza, a movie, and a sleep-over in the Youth Room make this a fun event. Rehearsals begin the following Wednesday, August 24. For more information contact Keith Shafer at kshafer@saintpauls.org.

Saint Paul’s will be hosting a Convocational training event for those wishing to become Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors, Saturday, August 20, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm. If you have an interest in serving as an Eucharistic Minister or Eucharistic Visitor, please speak with Fr. Muir.

The Saint Paul’s Acolyte Festival will be held Sunday, August 21, 12-2 pm. Anyone ages 8 and up interested in becoming an acolyte and all current acolytes are invited and encouraged to attend. Lunch will be served in Tyler Hall with training to follow in the church. Participants are requested to register so that lunch can be planned. Wednesday Night Fellowship Dinners return Wednesday, August 24. This month the Youth of Saint Paul’s are hosting a special “Cooking for the Choirs” taco dinner night in honor of our choirs return to Wednesday practice. Join us from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm in Tyler Hall. A donation of $5.00 a plate or $15.00 per family is greatly appreciated and will benefit events for our youth. Come out to support our youth, celebrate the choirs, and enjoy the rich fellowship of our Saint Paul’s community. An RSVP is not necessary; however, if you plan to attend, please email Ranie at rneislar@saintpauls.org so we can be the best hosts!
