Dear friends in Jesus Christ,
Every year, many people do yard sales and they sell or
give away everything which is not useful to them. As hu-
man beings, every one of us are created in the image and
likeness of God to become an instrument of God here in
this world, by producing fruits according to the will of God
for the Kingdom of God. Just like we do yard sales, if God
decided to do a yard sale, every year, how many of us
would be placed for sale? Are we useful to God through
our life here in this world?
The Gospel, of today, invites us to enter into a deeper re-
flection about the kindness and mercy of God. Talking
about the importance of doing the sacrament of confes-
sion, some people have commented, “that is ok Father, I
am good”, and many people are reluctant to do confes-
sion. People with the attitude of “I am good” are especially
invited to reflect about the Gospel of today. Jesus very
clearly teaches us that, today you are safe and sound not
because you are good, but because God is good. God is
showing His kindness and mercy to us with the hope that
we will return to Him, and that is what He is asking from us
-Repent and believe in the Gospel.
God did not create us just to fill the space here on earth.
He wants more from each one of us. The expectation of
Jesus from each one of us could be understood, only as
long as we live in the grace of God, and so He is calling us
for repentance. Jesus comes to us with a warning, “But I
tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish.” Thus, the
first part of the Gospel gives an answer to a common
question raised by many people in today’s world-why do
innocent people suffer in their lives? Jesus makes it clear
that, someone is suffering not because they are greater
sinners than many others, rather, they are chosen special-
ly by God through suffering, to give others a message to
repent, just like He chose, Mother Mary, St. Joseph, Job
etc., to fulfill the will of God.
The parable of the fig tree explains to us the kindness and
mercy of God that we enjoy every day. Be sure, there is
someone interceding for you and for me, just like the one
who interceded for that unfruitful fig tree. Yes, my dear
friends, let us not take advantage of the kindness and mer-
cy of God carelessly, but let us live meaningfully and care-
fully without losing the quality that God has given to each
one of us. Yes, the quality of our life is determined not by
the number of years we live here in this world, but by the
qualitative change we bring to this world and its creation
according to the will of God. So dear friends, being the
image of God, let us add more quality to our lives and to
the lives of others through our sincere fasting, prayer and
almsgiving. God Bless You.
