Third Sunday of Easter
The second reading offers a vibrant visual of what is taking place during our Sunday Mass. As the Catechism says, “In the earthly liturgy we share in a foretaste of that heavenly liturgy.” (CCC 1090) Like the Apostles in the first reading, we, through our prayer and ritual action, bodily profess Jesus as Lord. Again, according to the Catechism, we
“join the unending praise that the Church in heaven, the angels and all the saints sing.” (CC 1352)
Through the example of our lives, bear a faithful witness to the Gospel.

APRIL IS 7TH GRADE SHADOW MONTH! If you have a 7th grader interested in McGivney, be sure to visit www.McGivneyGriffins.com/Admissions and print a form to schedule a shadow day.
A Shadow Day is a great way for interested students to experience McGivney first hand. Students are paired with a freshman ambassador, issued a laptop for the day and lunch is on us! They are encouraged to participate in class, use our technology, meet new people, have fun in PE and be as much of a Griffin as they want to be for the day. Following the Shadow Day, parents and students will have the opportunity to sit down with Principal Scholz for a brief meeting to talk about the day and the school.

MINISTRY MINUTES
Excerpts from the Homily Pope Francis Delivered at the Easter Vigil
On Holy Saturday our Holy Father gave this wonderful message of the hope that arises from our Lord’s Resurrection. All of the following is excerpted from the Vatican’s translation of that homily. I want to share parts of it with you.
“Peter ran to the tomb” (Lk 24:12). What thoughts crossed Peter’s mind and stirred his heart as he ran to the tomb? Peter had not believed the testimony of the women. Quite the contrary, “these words seemed to them an idle tale” (v. 11). Thus there was doubt in Peter’s heart, together with many other worries: sadness at the death of the beloved Master and disillusionment for having denied him three times during his passion…. He (Peter) did not succumb to the somber atmosphere of those days, nor was he overwhelmed by his doubts. And so, he got up, just as he was, and ran toward the tomb from where he would return “amazed” (v. 12). This marked the beginning of Peter’s resurrection, the resurrection of his heart. Without giving in to sadness or darkness, he made room for hope: he allowed the light of God to enter into his heart…
We, like Peter, cannot discover life by being sad, bereft of hope. Let us not stay imprisoned within ourselves, but let us break open our sealed tombs to the Lord so that He can enter and grant us life…This is the first stone to be moved aside this night: the lack of hope which imprisons us with ourselves. May the Lord free us from this trap, from being Christians without hope, who live as if Christ were not risen, as if our problems were the very center of our lives.
We see and will continue to see problems both within and without. They will always be there. But it is important to shed the light of the Risen Lord upon our problems. Let us not allow darkness and fear to distract us and control us; we must cry out to them: the Lord “is not here, but has risen” (v. 6). He is our greatest joy. Christian hope is a gift that God gives us if we come out of ourselves and open our hearts to him. The Holy Spirit pours into us the vitality of life, which is not the absence of problems, but the certainty of being loved and always forgiven by Christ. How can we strengthen our hope? Remember the works of God and God’s faithfulness, the history of his love toward us. Let us not forget his words and his works, otherwise we lose hope. Let us remember the Lord, his goodness and his life-giving words which have touched us. Let us remember them and make them ours.
Dear brothers and sisters, Christ is risen! Let us open our hearts to hope and go forth. May the memory of his works and his words be the bright star which directs our steps in the way of faith towards the Easter that will have no end.
Deacon’s note: We are less than half way through our celebration of Easter and we all need to return again and again to the wonder of our Lord’s rising from the dead and the meaning that his conquering of death gives to our lives
Alleluia, He is risen, Alleluia!
~Deacon Dan
Reflection ~ Robin Black-Rubenstein
In the Gospel from John on this Third Sunday of Easter it is the third appearance of the Risen Jesus. In reading this Gospel and reflecting, I wondered why Jesus gave them so many fish. The beginning of the reading states that Peter said, “I am going fishing” and then others decided they wanted to go as well. It seems as though the fishing excursion was simply to provide some food for the disciples for the next meal or two. When Jesus gave them this great catch it was more than they needed or maybe even wanted. When they get back to shore with all of these fish, Jesus had already cooked for them some fish and bread and told them to “Bring some of the fish you just caught.” Then we are told there were one hundred fifty-three large fish. That seems like a lot of fish even in our over indulged times. I think it is interesting too that the disciples didn’t seem overly concerned when they were not catching fish. We are not told they were upset or fervently praying for fish. We are simply told they didn’t catch anything all night until Jesus appears at dawn.
How often do we doubt Jesus’ care and concern for us? Jesus was so concerned about his disciples that he gave them more fish than they even considered asking for. After filling them with joy and hope He then has a meal already prepared for them when they come back to shore after a long night. Have you ever had a long restless night hoping to sleep but cannot because you are worried about things in life? Often times this has more to do with lack of trust and faith that our Lord is concerned about our needs. I know I think sometimes, “If I plan well I can make it all work myself.” Then I begin my morning tired and frustrated. The times when I have given up and remembered to have faith seem to be the mornings that I wake and know Jesus is at my side. I haven’t yet found breakfast made for me on those mornings but I have noticed that things seem brighter, and my coffee tastes better. Jesus knows what we need even when we are concerned about the wrong things. He often gives us more than we could ever want.
Walk Fit— Outdoor Walk-fit has resumed. Come join us on Mondays from 8:00-9:00 a.m. We begin with a short prayer/reflection before walking outdoors. Meet in the lobby of the church. Inclement weather cancels the walk.

Weekly Gift to Parish as Percentage of Income
God asks each of us to consider tithing 10% of our income; Catholic tithing then divides this as 5% to our personal charities, 4% to our Parish, and then, 1% to our Diocese (Annual Catholic Services Appeal-ACSA). Below is a grid based on different income levels and percentages as a guide. This is based on 50 weekly donations in a year.

Stewardship
There is much to digest in today’s Gospel Reading from St. John. It reports the third time that Jesus appeared to His Apostles. The Lord appears on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias, which is another name by which the Sea of Galilee is known. It is early in the morning, and Peter and the others had been fishing unsuccessfully, and obviously were near to the shore, but at Jesus’ urging they cast their nets again and caught many fish, which they then brought to shore.
According to the Gospel Jesus had breakfast with them, and then He poses the question to Peter specifically, “Do you love me?” The exchange between the Lord and Peter is carefully narrated, as are Jesus’ responses. However, at the end of the Gospel Reading for today, Jesus says two simple words to Peter, “Follow Me.” Of course, these are the same two words with which we are familiar that Jesus used to call Peter and the others in the beginning.
We need to understand that these instructions from Jesus are not just for the Apostles but for us as well. How have we responded to that call? Our reaction does not have to be as dramatic as Peter’s and the others, who abandoned their lives and their livelihood and became total followers of Christ. However, we, too, need to find the strength and the commitment to follow the Lord. How we carry that out is our stewardship, how we live our lives.
