PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
The Presentation of the Lord concludes the
celebration of the Nativity and with the offerings of
the Virgin Mother and the prophecy of Simeon, the events now point toward
Easter. 2 falls on a Sunday and thus takes precedence. There are two ways of
celebrating the ceremony, either the Procession,
which begins at a 'gathering place' outside
the church, or the Solemn Entrance, celebrated
within the church."— From Ceremonies of the
Liturgical Year
THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
What does it mean for the Church, for us, today to be disciples of Jesus the
Lamb of God? It means putting innocence in the place of malice, love
in the place of force, humility in the place of pride, service in the place of
prestige. It is good work! We Christians must do this: put innocence in the place of malice, love in the place of force, humility in the place of pride,
service in the place of prestige. Being disciples of the Lamb means that we must not live like a “city under siege,”
but like a city on a hill, open, welcoming, solidary. It means not
having an attitude of closedness, but proposing the Gospel to everyone,
testifying with our life that following Jesus makes us more free and more
joyful. — Pope Francis Angelus Address January
19, 2014

MK 1:14-20The Gospel is from Mark 1:14-20. We Christians can indeed be the
happiest people on earth, if we live according to the divine good news revealed to us through Christ. "Repent and believe in the gospel," Christ told the people of Galilee. The same call goes out from our loving Savior
to each of us today: repent—change your outlook on life— and see it as God sees it to be for us, a short journey toward heaven. If we really believe in the gospel of Christ, the revelation of God's plan for our
eternal happiness, our earthly troubles will look small, our trials and temptations will appear to us as they really are—a means of earning the eternal victory. Can we refuse to carry the relatively lighter cross which he places on our shoulders as our means of making atonement for our
own failings and for those of our fellowmen?

1 COR 7:29-31The second reading is from the
first Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians. St. Paul admonishes his converts to do what our Lord
himself advised his follower—always to be ready for the
judgment.
JON 3:1-5, 10The first reading is taken from the Book of the Prophet Jonah 3:1-5, 10 and tells the story of
Jonah's call from God to go to a pagan city and preach
repentance to the sinful people.

a specific intention, even when one cannot bephysically present at the Mass, is a longstanding

Do you really trust God? Do you really believe that God will provide all that
you need? Faith is a challenge for everyone at times. Putting our trust in
God, in everything we do, in good times and in bad, means that God’s
plan for our lives may be quite different than what we planned.
When one door closes, another one opens. Trust in God, His plan is always
better.

POPE FRANCIS COMPOSES A PRAYER TO OUR LADY, HEALTH OF THE SICK, TO IMPLORE HER PROTECTION DURING THE COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS EPIDEMIC.
O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope.We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need.We are certain that you will provide, so that,as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial.Help us, Mother of Divine Love,to conform ourselves to the Father’s willand to do what Jesus tells us:He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us,through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God.Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
Act of Spiritual CommunionSpiritual Comunion Prayer
Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament. The
most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot
attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental
Communion and help us avoid sin.My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the
Most Holy Sacrament.I love you above all things and I desire to receive
you in my soul.Since I cannot at this moment receive you
sacramentally,Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already thereAnd unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.Amen.
Living the LiturgyInspiration of the Week
There isn’t a human being alive who hasn’t acted foolishly or erratically at the cost of almost losing a treasured
relationship. “Why did I act that way?” is a question we often ponder
after some reflection and enlightenment. Faith works the same
way. Stumbling through life and bumping up against meaninglessness,
a person can begin to see that something significant is missing. They
see that there is merit to a relationship with God and an embrace
of faith. Before these can take root, sincere sorrow for past wrong doing,
missed opportunities, errors in judgment, and short sightedness is necessary. Repentance is necessary. Then having realized that we were walking in darkness, we can rejoice
that by God’s grace we now see the light. -LPi Publishing

SAINT OF THE WEEK
Saint Paula D AT E S : 3 4 7 - 4 0 4F E A S T D AY: J A N U A R Y 2 6
T he patron saint of widows, Paula was a wealthy Roman widowed with five children at age 32. Another widow introduced her to St. Jerome, a priest and papal secretary to St. Damasus. Jerome became her spiritual director, urging a life of asceticism and charity. When he learned she was fluent in Greek, he enlisted her help in translating Greek biblical texts for his new Latin version of the Bible. Paula had joined the circle of nobility-born Roman women in Jerome’s orbit, and followed him to the Holy Land when he left Rome. She taught herself Hebrew, and exhausted her wealth building a monastery, three convents and a hospital in Bethlehem.

PRAYER RESOURCE
All too often, Lord, we turn away from the world's many problems, which seem too big, too complex, or too far away. Forgive us our indifference.
It is easier, Lord, to see only what is around us: our lives, our homes, our challenges. Forgive us our isolation.
Help us to see with your eyes: eyes which notice one another and help us understand.
Help us to dream your dream: of communities that reach out and dialogue and where diverse people creatively cooperate.
Help us to be people of solidarity and action, so moved by prayer, encounter, and understanding that peace can become a reality.
Amen.

BULLETIN
Santa Paula
347-404

grandes, demasiado complejos o demasiado lejanos.
realidad.
Amen.
