1 IntroductionPraim ThinOX Terminals are based on the Linux embedded operating system (Linux basedTerminal design) and are designed for accessing servers and server based applications on anetwork.

The Thin Client technology provides simple and secure access to server based resources andapplications, as well as a lower total cost of device ownership (TCO).

The installation of Praim ThinOX terminals can be performed in a matter of minutes andrequires virtually no technical experience. On the first boot, a Wizard guides the user throughthe most basic terminal settings for the network, keyboard, and display.

2 Initial InstallationThe first time the WT terminal is booted, a “Wizard” will appear which will guide the userthrough the basic terminal settings.

2.1 Language SelectionThe first window of the configuration asks for the language to be used for the user interface ofthe terminal.

Select the language and click "OK" to continue with the configuration.

2.2 Welcome WindowThe welcome window, shown below, displays a “Welcome” message along with the firmwarerevision.

Click on "Next" to proceed to the first window of the setup.

2.3 End User LicenseRead the End User License Agreement.

Click on "Accept" if you agree with the terms and to proceed to the next step of the setup.

2.4 IP AddressThe following screen allows the setting of the IP address in one of two ways:

Obtain an IP address automatically from a DHCP Server.Assign a static IP address.

It also allows to configure the ThinMan Address.

Click on "Configure" to enter ThinMan Server information (see next chapter) or select thedesired IP address option and click "Next" to continue.

2.6 Assigning a Static IP AddressWhether "Insert Static IP Address" is selected, the following information must be completed:

: enter a static IP Address for the device. This address must be unique on theIP Addressnetwork and no other device can have the same address.

: enter the subnet mask for the terminal. The subnet mask will determineSubnet Maskthe class of the network and therefore how network traffic will be routed to and from theterminal.

: enter the IP Address of the gateway for access to IP addressesDefault Gatewayoutside of the subnet mask.

After entering the information click on "Next" to proceed with the configuration.

2.7 Name ResolutionDNS (Domain Name Service) and WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service) allow the resolutionof logical system names to IP addresses.

The parameters for Name Resolution are:

: enable DNS name resolutionActivate DNS: the name of the default domainDefault Domain Name

: enter the IP address of the primary DNS serverIP address of Primary DNS server: enter the IP address of the secondary DNSIP address of Secondary DNS server

server (it will be used if the primary server is not available)

After entering the requested information click on "Next" to continue with the configuration.

2.8 Screen Size, Video Refresh Frequency andDisplay ModeSelect the desired screen size and video frequency from the drop down list; this must becompatible with the monitor being used.

Click on "Next" to continue.

2.9 Wizard CompletionIn the last window of the wizard users can decide whether to complete the installation orchange any previous settings by going "Back" in the process.

To complete the configuration, click on "Finish".

3 Configuration SettingsThis chapter describes the configuration parameters for the ThinOX thin clients; these will bereferred to as Configuration Settings. The Configuration Settings window is the equivalent ofthe Control Panel on a Windows based PC; it allows you to configure the various operatingparameters of the terminal.

The Configuration Settings window is displayed as a tabbed dialog, where each pagecorresponds to a particular group of settings.

To access the configuration menus (SETUP) of the terminal in Desktop mode, select the Startbutton on the taskbar, select Settings, and then Configuration Settings. You may also right clickover the desktop and select Configuration Settings from the popup menu.

To access the configuration menus (SETUP) of the terminal in WBT mode, press the "F2" keyfrom the Connection Manager on the desktop.

The following paragraphs describes the terminal configuration parameters in detail.

If you cannot get the Configuration Settings window to display, please contact your systemadministrator, as the terminal configuration may be password protected.

3.1 GeneralThe General window displays the terminal model type, the product ID, the installed memorysize, the firmware version, and the memory usage of the terminal.

3.1.1 Restore The Terminal to Factory-DefaultProperty SettingThis option will reset all Terminal Properties to their factory default parameters. By selectingthis option, the terminal will reboot and the configuration Wizard displayed again at its restart.

3.2 NetworkThe Network page controls the parameters for the network interface.

: use this setting if your network is configured to use aObtain IP Address from DHCP ServerDHCP server. The DHCP server will automatically provide the terminal with an IP address, anetwork mask, a domain, and DNS servers.

: use this setting if you will manually insert the IP address of theInsert Static IP Addressterminal.

IP Address: enter the IP address of the terminal in this fieldSubnet Mask: enter the subnet mask for the terminal in this field; the default value forthis parameter is 255.255.255.0Default Gateway: enter the IP address of the server which routes traffic to and from thelocal network of the terminal

: enter the name by which the terminal will be known on the network. ThisTerminal Namename will be shown when using Praim ThinMan management software as well as whenbrowsing the network on another Windows PC.

: enter the Windows workgroup for the terminal. Praim ThinOX terminals may beWorkgroup

: enter the Windows workgroup for the terminal. Praim ThinOX terminals may beWorkgroupseen from any Windows based PC on the network using SMB.

: share Thin Client resources (Printers and local drives) overPermits Sharing over Networknetwork through SMB.

3.2.1 Ping FunctionThe Ping dialog box will help pinging other computers on the network and verifying networkconnectivity.

3.2.2 Advanced ParametersThrough the Advanced Parameters dialog box users can specify the default domain and DNSservers.

: check this box if you want to use DNS for solving host names to IP addresses.Enable DNS

: when DNS is enabled, enter the Name of the Domain you want to join.Default Domain

: when DNS is enabled, enter the IP address of the primary DNS serverDNS Address 1

: when DNS is enabled, enter the IP address of the secondary DNS server. ThisDNS Address 2DNS server is used if the primary DNS server is unavailable.

: if Static IP is enabled, enter the network where the terminal is.Network

: if Static IP is enabled, enter the broadcast address for the network; theBroadcast Addressbroadcast address specifies the network class for special broadcast messages

: users can decide modes to use Ethernet cards defining specific speed andEthernet Modelevel of symmetry of data exchanged. MTU parameter determines the maximum size for IPpackets. Note: This button appears when the wireless card is not active.

: disables the wireless device; the onboard network interface of the terminalDisable Wirelesswill be used

Through the Hosts Table users can easily associate IP addresses to descriptive names withouthaving to use DNS; the format is to define one address/name association per line; the IPaddress of the machine first and then the descriptive name for the host.

3.2.4 DHCP Log FileIt allows to view the log file created during the DHCP negotiation.

3.2.5 DHCP LeasesIt allows to view the DHCP configuration received from the server.

3.2.6 DHCP RenewRenegotiate the network configuration with the DHCP server.

3.2.7 Wireless ParametersThe Wireless parameters page provides the configuration for optional wireless devices. Userscan specify the SSID of the desired access point as well as the type of wireless encryption touse. When encryption is enabled (either 64 or 128 bit) a mandatory WEP key must be entered.

Note: when enabling the wireless card, the network card service has to be stopped as they canonly work one at time. To enable the network adapter to work users need to disable thewireless service through the specific check box.

“Wireless Parameters” allow users to specify the wireless network to connect and theencryption settings.

: enables encryption on the wireless network. It is recommended to enableEnable Criptingencryption on the wireless network for security reasons; anyone with a wireless device mayintercept the wireless traffic.

: allows the selection of the type of encryption to use (WEP/WPA/WPA2),Security Modealgorithm and passphrase. For WEP encryption both 64 and 128 bit can be selected. In WEPmode the key can be automatically generated based on a passphrase, or entered as a series ofhexidecimal digits. For 64 bit WEP, the key is exactly 10 hexidecimal digits; for 128 bit WEP,the key is exactly 26 hexidecimal digits.For WPA and WPA2 encryption types, the passphrase can be any combination/length ofnumbers and/or characters.NOTE: For the wireless device to work properly when encrypting is enabled, the encryptiontype of BOTH the terminal and the access point must be the same.

3.3 User InterfaceThe “User Interface” tab allows users to achieve a higher level of interface customizationaccording to their needs and preferences.

3.3.1 Mouse SettingsIt allows to set the type of mouse in use and to customize both the pointer speed andacceleration.

: selects the type of mouse. The mouse selection also allows the configuration of a touchTypescreen device.

: the "Speed" slider controls the sensitivity of the mouse to movement. A slower speedSpeedresults in a lower mouse sensitivity.

3.3.2 International SettingsThrough this dialog box users can set both the language for the system and the keyboard.

: this option allows to customize both the repeat rate key and delay.Repeat Rate and DelayThe Repeat Rate controls the rate at which a key is repeated after being held. The RepeatDelay controls the time delay before a key is repeated after being pressed; as the RepeatDelay is increased, the time a key must be held before it is repeated increases accordingly.

3.3.3 Screen SaverThis option enables the Screen Saver.

It is possible to both set the type of screen saver and the keyboard and mouse timeout for itsactivation.

3.3.4 Video ResolutionThe Video Resolution controller allows to configure many aspects of monitors, screen resolutionand color depth.

In case of dual monitor, the arrangement (right/left) can be setout by specifying the SVGA/DVI source. NOTE: dual monitor arrangement requires one VGA andone DVI monitor (without further DVI/VGA adaptors). Ino and Atomino models require dualmonitor adapter cable (DVI-I to SVGA/DVI).

NOTE: changes will be effective after clicking on OK on the control panel. A pop-up will thenrequest either to confirm or restore the chosen features (e.g. Monitor Resolution). Whethernone of the options will be chosen or settings were wrong (black or blur video), the video willbe restored automatically to previous settings after 30 seconds.

3.3.5 Terminal ModalityIt allows you to set different terminal GUI operation modes . Four types of modes are available.

(default): Desktop Mode provides a familiar Windows type look experience usingFull Desktoptaskbar with Start menu as well as desktop with program icons. Desktop mode is available forthose users familiar with the standard MS Windows interface.For instance, users can set up and start different connections by clicking on "Start" on thetaskbar.

: WBT mode is the classic Thin Clients’ user interface where a Connection ManagerWBT Mode

: WBT mode is the classic Thin Clients’ user interface where a Connection ManagerWBT Modewindow is displayed on the desktop. From here users may launch, define, and configureapplications. WBT mode provides a minimal, easy to use, interface for non-technical users.

: KIOSK mode is essentially a WBT mode but the Connection Manager is notKIOSK Modeautomatically displayed on the desktop (users need to press CTRL+ALT+End to display theConnection Manager).

: in this mode users access the window managerXDM (Remote Windows Manager)remotely on an X-Windows server. NOTE: When the terminal is configured to use a RemoteWindow Manager, it is still possible to access the terminal’s desktop by holding the space barpressed during terminal boot up. This may be necessary whether the remote XDM server is notavailable.

3.3.6 Screen AppearanceThrough “Screen Appearance” dialog box, users can choose screen theme, background colouror customize their Thin Client wallpaper.

3.6 PrintersIn the Printers page users can configures printers and printer sharing for the terminal.

The ThinOX thin client series support the "sharing" of locally attached printers using LPR, RAW,or ThinPrint printing protocols.

Each of these protocols can be configured on any type of attached printer allowing theterminals to be used as print servers.

In addition printers can be used and exported through RDP, ICS and other remote protocols.

Exporting and Selecting the Driver for Terminal ServerIn case of remote connections using RDP, ICA or SSGD each connected printer can also be“enabled” to the remote server. To enable select the specific check box and define serverprinter driver name and description.

In case the driver for the specific printer is not shown in the list, is essential to install it on thehost (server/VM) where the user will connect to.

Select “Manual edit” and type a description of the driver (not the single printer) in the sectionbelow as defined in the control panel/Host printers, recopying carefully spaces and differencesbetween upper and lower case.

Paper Size and Print a Test PageSelect default printer page format that will be used for thin client local application (the formatis not used by shared printers) and select whether you want to print a test page or not.

3.6.2 ThinprintPraim ThinOX terminals supports the ThinPrint printing client.

ThinPrint is a product which compresses the printed data stream to minimize the networktraffic when printing large jobs. To effectively use this printing protocol it is necessary to installthe ThinPrint software on the printer server.

4.2 ThinManUsers can address and configure access features to the ThinMan server. It needs to bespecified which is the referenced ThinMan. When configured, the thin client will use HTTPSProtocol instead of TCP/UDP (reliable device status) and will send to ThinMan more informationon the Thin Client itself (Serial, Subnet, …).

This configuration is required for ThinMan Policy (Device and User) and Zero Config (seeThinMan documentation for more information).

ThinOX support Imprivata OneSign technology.

With this solution the user is enabled to perform a secure authentication with a proximitySmart Card (RFID) or traditional Smart Card towards Citrix XenDesktop or VMware View VDIinfrastructures.

The strong integration of ThinOX with Imprivata OneSign allows a Single Sign On to the VirtualDesktop in a few seconds. The user can thus access its desktop from any Praim Thin Client witha single "Touch".

4.5 Multimedia CodecsThe “Multimedia Codecs” panel allows users to enable the feature called HDX MediastreamRedirection on all Citrix connections and on VMware connections (in this last case only throughRDP connections, not PCoIP).

It installs and enables all the necessary video and audio codecs.

This feature is optional and has a separated licence and it is not included in the ThinOXfirmware.

4.13 Praim USB RedirectionPraim USB Redirection is a feature available on ThinOX thin client that allows to redirect USBdevices from the thin client to the Virtual Desktop. To be activated it needs to install TCe-VDAagent on the Virtual Desktop (Windows XP or Windows 7). Praim USB redirection is supportedby RDP, XenDesktop and View client protocols.

The protocol use a TCP connection (port 15801) and does not support tunneling feature (Citrixor VMware).

5.1 WBT ModeIn WBT Mode, the "Connections Manager" is displayed on the desktop of the terminal as shownbelow.

The Connections tab is used to launch defined sessions. The Configure tab can be used to Add,Edit or Delete terminal sessions; these functions are displayed at the bottom of the ConnectionManager window when the Configuration tab is selected.

The Connection Manager consist of two tabs:

5.4 Auto-Starting Session On StartupAny defined terminal session may be started manually by double clicking on the icon for thatsession within the Desktop or in the Connection Manager window (when the Connections pageis active). Alternatively, the session can be started by selecting the icon for the session withthe mouse and clicking on “Open”.

Any session may be configured to auto-start using the “Startup” menu from the ConnectionManager.

From the Configuration page of the Connection Manager, select the session and click ”Startup”at the bottom of the Connection Manager window.

The following dialog box will be displayed for configuring the autostartup session.

: the session will be the default session.Enable this connection as the Default connectionThe default session can be made the active session by using the CTRL+ALT+Home hotkeysequence.

: the session will be automatically started when the systemEnable connection autostartboots.

: the terminal will automatically try to reconnect the sessionEnable Automatic reconnectionwhenever it is closed.

The other two options will shut-down or reboot the terminal when the connection closed.

6.1 Configuring the HDX RealTime WebcamVideo CompressionThinOX supports the HDX Realtime Webcam Video Compression in a Citrix environment(XenApp and XenDesktop).

This chapter explain how to configure the ThinOX environment to use this feature.

6.1.1 ThinOX Control PanelIn the ThinOX Control Panel there are many controls that has to be configured in order to usethe webcam.

6.1.2 Praim Multimedia CodecsIn order to use the HDX RealTime Webcam Video Compression the Praim Multimedia Codecscontrol has to be enabled.

Praim Multimedia Codecs is not installed by default in the ThinOX environment, it is a paidextension that has to be ordered together with the thin client.

Once licensed (you can also try it for 7 day period) you have to tick the "Enable PRAIMMultimedia Codecs" option in order to enable it.

This module is mandatory in order to use HDX RealTime Webcam Video Compression.

6.1.3 Webcam moduleOnce you open the Webcam module tick the "Enable Webcam" option in order to use it.

The Webcam module is enabled by default in the thin client.

To be sure to use all the possible drivers for the connected webcam please select the "ForceLoading Drivers" option.

When testing phase is terminated try also to use "Hotplug" option. In this case ThinOX will tryto recognize the connected webcam. Eventually reverse to "Force Loading Drivers" if "Hotplug"mode is not working.

6.1.4 ICA Global SettingsOpen the "ICA Global Setting" module and select the"Advanced" tab.

On the "HDX Features" section, tick the "Flash Redirection" option (this option is by defaultenabled).

On the "WebCam FrameRate" fields insert the appropriate value that is depending on thewebcam itself. A good value to start the testing phase is "15" frames per sec. Depending onthe webcam model it can be increased to 20 or 30.

6.1.5 Citrix HDX USB RedirectionIn order to prevent the redirection of the webcam via the "HDX USB Redirection" you have toconfigure it correctly.

From the "Citrix HDX USB Redirection" module unflag the two option "Audio Devices" and"Video Devices". This configuration allows to manage the webcam (video device) andeventually the microphone (audio device) directly from the thin client.You can also click on "Exception list" to access the exception device list and configure more

You can also click on "Exception list" to access the exception device list and configure moreprecisely to not share the device.

You will see the inserted webcam (and eventually the microphone mounted on it; this dependson the webcam model); select the device and click on "Add to Ex.list".

Be sure to select the "Never Export" exception option and click on "OK". Repeat this operationfor the audio device mounted by the webcam (if present).

6.1.6 Sound ConfigurationSome webcam will mount not only a video device but also an audio device (e.g. microphone).

To be sure to use the microphone correctly on the thin client you have to start the "SoundConfiguration" module.

From the "Input Device" list select the USB microphone and click on "OK".
