The teacher and student content in every unit is consistently structured in five components:
• Getting Started introduces the unit focus TEKS/concept and the Critical Thinking traits that support students as they learn, practice, and master the TEKS/concept. This component also guides planning and instruction as educators use the diagnostic information provided by the Pre-Assessment.
• Instruction provides an explanation for students and teachers of the unit focus TEKS/concept, including an identification of the essential vocabulary. This component offers students an opportunity to learn and apply the unit focus TEKS/concept and receive immediate feedback and support.
• Assessment gives students an opportunity to apply the unit focus TEKS/concept in a context that mirrors high-stakes testing. Teachers can use the Assessment component to monitor student learning and make instructional decisions regarding the need for interventions or reinforcements for individual students or the large group.
• Intervention offers engaging instructional activities that support students who have demonstrated the need for intervention and reinforcement in order to show mastery of the unit focus TEKS/concept.
• Extension delivers an opportunity for students to apply and explore the learning of the unit focus TEKS/concept in a new context.
