• Waste is anything that we throw away in our bins - such as cans, paper, vegetables, glass and plastic, food and lots more.

• We all make a lot of waste especially at Christmas, when we have extra paper, cards and lots of packaging

• We also waste a lot of food. 7 million tonnes of food and drink is thrown away every year in the UK (that weighs the same as 1,200,000 elephants !)

• And more than half of this could have been eaten...

• So what could we do to help?

So how can we reduce our waste?

– Wrap presents in different ways

to reduce wrapping paper

– Make sure you eat up all your food at meal times

– Love your left overs!

– Make your own Christmas cards and presents

– Put your bin on a diet in the New Year by throwing less away!

How can we reuse?– Make your own Christmas

decorations– Take bags with you when

you go shopping so you don’t need a new ones

– Make your own paper chains from old wrapping paper or wallpaper

– Get your gifts from charity shops – great for bargains!

How we can recycle?– Recycle Rudolph’s (and your)

mince pie wrappers and all your cans, plastic, bottles, tubs and trays too.

– Recycle wrapping paper and Christmas cards

– Take any glass bottles and jars to a bottle bank and have a smashing time!

– Did you know that you can recycle cartons, aerosols, pots and pans and books in your recycling bin at home too?

– Are there any other things you can recycle ?
