Home school learning pack for week beginning 18/05/20

Dear Purple Class,

I hope that you are all still safe and well, and managing to complete the tasks set for you!

There are some lovely Art tasks to have a go at this week, plus some more kindness- based

tasks. Remember to try to stay busy and active, so that you keep mentally and physically

healthy. You all sounded really happy, when I spoke to you and that was very encouraging. I

think you’re doing a great job, in these challenging times. I’m so proud of you all. Thank you for

the lovely lockdown photos you sent – I hope you like our PowerPoint!

Take care, from Mrs Leafe

Purple Class Timetable WC: 18/05/20

Day Maths (approx 1 hour) Every day this week: spend a few minutes each day practicing drawing squares and rectangles, or different sizes and measuring the perimeters and/or calculating the areas. Remember: Perimeter= the distance all the way round the outside of the shape. Area=length x width.

Answers from last week: We’ll mark the Power Maths books, together, when we get back to school, so that I can explain anything you found tricky, properly.

Spellings for this week: official, unofficial, officially, special, speciality, superficial, artificial, artificially, partial, partially.

Purple Class menu of afternoon activities w/b 18/05/20 (You are free to choose how much time you spend on these)

Complete the activities in black print first, then choose from the activities in blue print:

Being kind is always important – we talk about this a lot in school. Why not either print, decorate

and display the Red Cross poster, below? You could even reproduce or design your own, if you

can’t print out.

ART – Have a go at one or more of the ‘Draw with Rob’ activities. There are some great ideas to challenge you! If you can’t find them, there are some examples below, to reproduce.

http://www.robbiddulph.com/draw-with-rob

On the website in the class folder, there are some ideas for kind activities and a sheet to record them on. I'm sure that you can think of some of your own too! Don’t worry if you can’t print the sheet – you can record these in your exercise book – it’s what you do that matters.

Mindfulness – Have a go at some mindful listening: You can do mindful listening anywhere. Just close your eyes, and listen to what you can hear. Try to identify five different sounds that you notice in the room. There’s a sheet below, to help you. Try to fill in the circles with pictures or words describing the sounds you can identify. You could extend this activity into thinking how our minds work: When you hear a sound, do you start thinking about which sounds you like and which ones you don’t? Why do you think our minds do that? When you hear a sound, does it sometimes make you start thinking about something else (a memory, for example)?

Keep trying to stay active! Remember you can join Joe Wicks on his you tube channel at 9am each day where he will give you a PE lesson – a great start to

the day! There are also the BBCSupermovers, which you all enjoy so much.

Reading Outside the Book! (See below)

If you really fancy a challenge, have a go at making something yummy: cookies, cakes, brownies. Anything! Baking is a great lesson in measuring, ingredients, and of

course, making delicious goodies. Make sure you get permission and support from an adult, before you start!

You have all enjoyed the crazy dances we have learned, with JumpStart Jonny.

Try his free workout, at this link, if you’re felling energetic!
