2019 IALC Winter Institute: "Think Globally, Act Locally"
The 2019 IALC Wint er Inst it ut e ?Think
Globally, Act Locally? is a unique language
immersion program that takes learning out of
the classroom and into the real world. Over ten
unforgettable days, participants sharpen their
English language skills in an innovative model
combining intensive classwork with topical
excursions and field trips. Participants reinforce
their learning with hands-on experience while
enjoying the countless perks of living in one of
the world?s most dynamic and fascinating
capital cities, New York.

Learn English. Experience Excellence. Share Your World.
Classes at the 2019 IALC Winter Institute
strengthen language proficiency and critical
thinking skills and provide first-hand exposure
to the unique participatory style of American
academia. Program participants expand
vocabulary, master grammar in context, and
build confidence using English every day, all
while experiencing what life is like as a student
at a top-level American university.

New York, New York: The City of Dreams
The 2019 IALC Wint er Inst it ut e explores t he
ar t , t echnology, societ y, and nat ural
environm ent of New York Cit y. Home to
cultures from all over the world, New York is
the ideal living laboratory to explore how to
thrive in a 21st century, multicultural urban
setting. For the 10-day duration of the program,
participants become New Yorkers, navigating
the complexity of a dynamic and diverse
society while enhancing their English
proficiency both in and out of the classroom.

Housing in Midtown Manhattan
Housing for t he 2019 IALC Wint er Inst it ut e is
not included in t u it ion. Participants must
arrange their own housing and should do so as
early as possible in order to ensure
accommodation during the winter program.
Hostels offer very basic and affordable options
for lodging. The list below includes hostels
located near Fordham at Lincoln Center. Please
note that this list is a reference only. Fordham
does not recommend or endorse any particular
service by including it here.

Dining at Fordham University
Fordham University?s dining halls serve
buffet-style meals daily, including a menu of
freshly prepared hot selections, a salad bar, hot
and cold beverages, fresh fruit, and desserts.
Meal vouchers may be purchased for breakfast,
lunch and dinner according to the meal plans
below:

PLAN A (FULL BOARD) INCLUDES 7 BREAKFAST VOUCHERS, 11 LUNCH/DINNER VOUCHERS, AND 3 GROUP MEALS.

PLAN B (HALF-BOARD) INCLUDES 7 BREAKFAST VOUCHERS, 5 LUNCH VOUCHERS, AND 3 GROUP MEALS. (PARTICIPANTS ON PLAN B MAKE PROVISIONS FOR DINNER.)

Int ensive English Classes. +18 Hours of English Instruction.
Aft ernoon / Evening Excursions. All planned activities and excursions are accompanied by IALC staff. Entrance fees are included in tuition.
Meal Plan. Meals are available through Fordham University dining halls. All meal plan options include full breakfast and 3 scheduled group meals.
Transpor t at ion. Airport pickup and transportation to and from program activities will be provided by the IALC. Each participant receives a NYC Metro (subway and bus) card.
Cer t if icat e. Participants who successfully complete the program for which they have registered will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Registration Checklist
OCTOBER 1ST, 2018: REGISTRATION OPENS

JANUARY 21ST, 2019: IALC WINTER INSTITUTE BEGINS!
NOVEMBER 16TH, 2018: REGISTRATION CLOSES.
Full tuition payment must be submitted online no later than Fr iday, Novem ber 16t h, 2018. After you submit payment, the IALC will forward you a letter confirming your placement in the program. Once you receive confirmation that your place in the program has been reserved, you must immediately begin making travel and housing arrangements.
NOVEMBER 16TH - DECEMBER 14TH, 2018: MAKE TRAVEL & HOUSING ARRANGEMENTS
All participants must have a tourist visa (B-2) allowing them to enter and reside in the United States for the full length of the program. The cost of transportation, housing, travel insurance, and visa fees are not covered by the tuition fee. Participants must arrange their own transportation to and from New York and are encouraged to book their transportation as soon as their registration is confirmed.
