Each year, YWCA Tampa Bay pauses to reflect upon its progress, challenges, and growth opportunities. Three years ago, through strategic planning efforts, we charted a path forwardto ensure an organization that was solid in its relationships, agile in its functionality, and keenin awareness of the evolving and increasing needs of women, children, and families. We aresharing our journey with an increasing number of people, we embraced a successful businessmodel that allows us to respond quickly to innovative opportunities, and we are emerging asa “go-to” organization in the areas of racial justice and women’s empowerment.

Our flexibility has allowed us to establish new programming that will allow girls and womento become empowered through financial independence, and today, we share a meaningful partnership with All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine, an organizationwith a long and distinguished history of providing high quality programming and services tochildren and families. Through our range of programming in childcare, supportive housingservices, adolescent pregnancy and parenting services, and racial and economic justice, theYWCA remains a powerful institution of service, change, and advocacy.

We are proud of our legacy that continues to move women and families to improved levels ofself-sufficiency, preparing them to compete in the modern world. On behalf of the hundredsof individuals served by our efforts each year, we wish to thank you for your endless support.

Programs

Family Village Housing and Support ServicesSince 1984, YWCA Tampa Bay has provided over 17,000 women, men, and children with emergencyshelter and transitional housing. The program allows a family unit to stay together and prevents childplacement in foster care. Child care and after-school youth development programs are provided forchildren residing in Family Village to allow parents the opportunity to focus on regaining self-sufficiency,obtaining and maintaining employment, and securing stable housing. Family Village also provides crisisintervention, case management, food, clothing, transportation assistance, referrals to mainstream resources, and other support services designed to keep homeless families together. Over the past year, Family Village Housing and Support Services served 274 individuals, 181 of which were homeless children.

Early Childhood LearningOur child development centers are corporate collaborations with the University of South Florida–St. Petersburg Campus and All Children’s Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine. These centers utilize a curriculum focused on school readiness, appreciation of diversity, cultural sensitivity, and characterdevelopment with a strong emphasis on early literacy. Over the past year, 225 children were served.

Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting ServicesSince 1981, YWCA Tampa Bay has provided comprehensive support and preventive services to pregnantand parenting youth. The focus of this program is to help pregnant and parenting teens complete theireducation and learn proper parenting skills, with a strong focus on reducing repeat pregnancies throughan evidence-based pregnancy prevention curriculum. Our program offers individual counseling, healtheducation, parenting skills, childbirth education, and labor support. Over the past year, this programserved 102 teens.

Institute for Social JusticeThe Institute’s goal is to increase awareness among the general public, public officials, communityleaders, and the business community about key social issues and to promote cooperation, collaboration,and policy changes that create a more sensitive and just society. YWCA Tampa Bay strives to eliminateracism and promote the economic empowerment of women through community partnerships for eventssuch as our Stand Against Racism, Community Conversations, and Women’s Economic Empowerment(WEE), which provides financial literacy classes and individual money management coaches to workwith women seeking to improve their economic security. WEE is a Hallmark program of the YWCA thatfocuses on women’s economic empowerment. Over the past year, the Institute for Social Justice hasserved over 700 community participants.
