PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
With fall officially upon us, and winter looming,most plumbing contractors are beginning to exhale and hope for aprosperous heating season.Yet there is something fundamentally different about the upcoming heating season, ascompared to heating seasons past.
To begin, home energy audits are fast becoming a marketplace demand and what better way to provide highefficiency equipment installation opportunities for your customers and your company than becoming certified toperform home energy audits? Towns and municipalities are at the early stages of providing homeowner incentives,including rebates and low interest rate financing to perform high efficiency heating/air conditioning equipmentupgrades. Coupled with federal tax credits, utility and manufacturer’s rebates, there is no better way to grow theheating/air conditioning equipment replacement division of your business. Contact the Master Plumbers Council tolearn how to obtain certification as a home energy auditor.

There is no question that our country and industry is truly facing unique and challenging times. There is so muchhappening so quickly, that it is difficult to keep informed about which legislation will affect our industry andindividual businesses and in which way. Healthcare reform, Employee Free Choice Act, Climate Change (Cap andTrade),mandatory paid sick leave, journeyman registration,mandated OSHA safety courses,etc., are only some of theissues being debated/enacted today that will affect this industry. The Master Plumbers Council is working diligentlyto participate in the processes and stay on top of these issues.The best way to strengthen our industry and betterour respective businesses is through a strong association. If you are not currently a member of the MasterPlumbers Council, get involved, have a say, join now!

DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING UPDATE:
The Department of Buildings has issued the following procedure for restoring gas that hasbeen shut down by the utility company.
1. There's a gas shut down.
2. Before going to the job, you fax in the letter inserted (on your letterhead) to DOB. Information isprovided on letter.o If this is during DOB hours, you must get a notification number (typically 4-digits) beforebeginning the work
o If this is after hours, fax the letter. Have your employees take a copy of the letter with themto the job site. (might be helpful to attach a fax confirmation if you have one). DOB willfollow up with a notification number once back in office.
3. Fix the problem
4. Call the respective utility company.
5. They come, witness the test and restoregas.
6. Y6.You follow up by filing theappropriate paperwork as stated onthe letter you sent in. For an LAA, write“Emergency” in the top portion. Wouldhelp to provide the notification numberthey gave you when you first sent in theletter.
7. Permit is issued.
8. You file an OP-98 Results only.o You need to indicate with a noteat the top or a sticky note thatthis is for the Chief or the AssistantChief to review. A clerk will fail itfor no notice.
o In Box #3, Inspection Data:provide the date that the utilitycompany witnessed the test asthe inspection date. In “MeetingLocation” provide the time theywitnessed the test.
