Puget Sound Oldsmobile Club – October 2008 1 . Could this field at the Country Village in Bothell be the site of the 2009 Pacific Northwest Zone Show? You are looking at a grass field that can accommodate up to 75 show cars. Recently, the members of the Puget Sound Olds Club were asked in an e-mail to respond to the question, “should the Annual Zone Show be moved from Frances Anderson Center in Edmonds to the Country Village in Bothell?” Fourteen members have responded with their vote. At the chapter meeting on Oct. 5 the decision MUST be made. The PNW Events calendar which lists 2009 area events goes to press on Oct. 10 and it will need to include the Annual Zone Show date and location. If you cannot attend the October chapter meeting and plan to attend the 2009 Zone Show, would you please send your vote to the editor at [email protected] . President’s Message

Hello to everyone,

Well, fall is here. You can sure feel it in the air, but there are still a few car shows left, like LaConnor and Snohomish. At the October Chapter meeting we will take nominations for election of new officers at the November meeting. If you are interested in any board positions, please let me know in advance. We have added a new item to our meeting raffle drawing - a $50.00 gas card! You must be present to win. We also have a lot of great items for you and/or your Oldsmobile. Our members bring in a great variety of raffle items – something for everyone. I invite you to come and participate.

“BETWEENBETWEENBETWEENBETWEEN THE BUMPERSTHE BUMPERSTHE BUMPERSTHE BUMPERS”””” … By Ed Konsmo… By Ed Konsmo… By Ed Konsmo… By Ed Konsmo

Fall is here and the car shows are just about over for the year. However, there are still a few swap meets in the next few months to search for those “hard to find parts” we have all been hoping to find. Noteably, the Fall Monroe Swap Meet takes place on October 11th and 12th. No matter how many times we go to Monroe, it seems as though something always find its way home with us. We do miss seeing Howard VonPressentin in his usual stall with Olds parts for sale. The Bremerton Swap Meet on November 1st and 2nd at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds is smaller than Monroe but always seems to have the item you have been searching to find. At the Bremerton Swap Meet last year I found a 1970 collector license plate for our 442 that I had been trying to find for several years. It was another case of going to a swap meet not knowing what you might find but there it is, right in front of you. It’s like the old phrase, “I’m not sure what I am looking for but I will recognize it when I see it”.

With the nights getting cooler, it is time to plug in the heater in the shop or garage and get it organized for work that you need to do to your car for the next season of cruising and car shows. It seems like tools never find their way back to their original spot in your tool cabinet. Did you put all of the detail supplies in the same area on the shelf? Are you missing any supplies that you needed this summer but forgot to replenish? Now is a good time to take inventory and get ready for the next season of cruising. Since cruising days seem to be over your Olds will not be driven as much, if at all during the winter months. Did you change the oil and check all of the fluids before tucking it in for its time off the road? How about fuel stabilizer in the gas tank? Moisture is the enemy of fuel. Be sure to that you do not forget this step in preparing the Olds for the winter. You don’t want to be like that guy in the TV commercial who cannot get his boat motor started. What about the battery? Is the water in the cells up to the top? This is not a commercial, but the best purchase that I have ever made for my Oldsmobile’s maintenance is a Battery Tender. It completely eliminates the need to jump start your Olds after it sits all winter and is not started. Batteries will lose their charge even if they are disconnected. The Battery Tender, through a computerized circuit, charges and maintains the battery charge at the proper level. It is not a trickle charger which can overcharge the battery. They make both 6 and 12 volt models. I even use one to keep the battery in the car trailer fully charged and maintained. Since we are in an election year, I cannot resist the opportunity to step to the podium to ask a question. Have you ever held an office in the Puget Sound Olds Club? If not, and you live close enough to attend the monthly chapter meetings, how about volunteering for a position? Your contribution of a few hours a month of your time would be appreciated by everyone. You do not have to balance a budget or meet with any foreign leaders. At the chapter meeting on October 5, nominations will be held for the election of club officers at the November meeting. If you are willing to share some of your time as a chapter officer, please call Nina Rogers at 360-651-6246.

ON A SAD NOTEON A SAD NOTEON A SAD NOTEON A SAD NOTE

Ernest Grayson It is with sadness that we report the passing of our good friend and former club member, Ernest Grayson. Due to illness he had been unable to attend meetings for some time. The funeral was held in Renton on September 16, 2008. Some of our Puget Sound Club members were in attendance at the funeral and brought their Oldsmobiles. We’re sure Ernest would have been very pleased.

THE PARTING SHOT

Above is a “bird’s eye” view of the Country Village in Bothell. In the lower left of the view is the area that would be used as the show field. The grass area inside the black top drive way is the area in the photo on the cover page of this newsletter. To the left of that area is additional show parking and a tent that the Country Village keeps up year round. The buildings in the center are the shops and restaurants. The staff at the Country Village encourages events such as our car show.
