Theseus, a Greek hero. Theseus was a Greek king. He was the son of the god Poseidon, but his mortal parents were King Aegeus and Queen Arethra. He was responsible for bringing social order to the city of Athens. He was the constructor of a fortress used to protect the city. He was the first king to adore Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. Theseus was also a hero, a very important one for the people of Greece. Just like Hercules and all the other heroes, he had a very special nature: he was half a god and that helped him to do incredible deeds . When he was just a young man, he lifted a very heavy rock, in order to prove he was half divine and the legit heir of the throne. A man who wasn’t the son of a god couldn’t do such amazing thing. Under the rock, there were the king’s sword and sandals. The king left them under the rock before Theseus was born, as a test for the man who wanted to be future king of Athens. Theseus was a very strong and intelligent man, but he wasn’t proud. He was brave and kind to all the people, no matter if they were rich princes or just poor peasants . Theseus’ most amazing adventure was in the island of Crete. In that island there was an endless labyrinth . A monster called Minotaur lived there. The Minotaur was a man with the head of a bull. It was the son of the king of Crete. His father locked him inside the labyrinth and every year a person had to enter there to keep the monster quiet. The people who entered never came out. Theseus was courageous and offered himself to go in. With the help of Princess Ariadne, he could find the Minotaur and kill it. He used a string as a guide to get out of the labyrinth. Theseus was the first person to go in and out of that place alive. Theseus’ real father was King Aegeus. Theseus was a very important king of Athens.
