Yes it’s really been that long. February 2020 was the last time the St. Joseph Island Lions Club held their monthly pancake breakfast. While it’s been a while and a lot has changed between then and now, the break- fasts seem to be back to more or less normal with some extra safety pre- cautions in place, as are required. Over 70 people attend- ed at the Hilton Beach Community Hall, with proof of vaccination being required certainly not a hin- drance to attendance. The event once again provides you a chance to “give the cook some time off” and also support the Lions Club, who invests the profits from the monthly breakfasts back into community in many different ways. RCL Br. 374 held a Veterans Dinner on September 18, 2021, hosted by The Ladies Auxiliary to RCL Br. 374. It honoured “Those who served or are serving in the Canadian Armed forces, RCMP, Reserves (minimum 2 years), CIL, British Commonwealth Nations, U.S. Armed Forces, NATO Armed Forces & U.N. Attachments”.

Approximately 55 Honourees and guests were in attendance and enjoyed the delicious meal and a time of fellowship. Of special note was a display of Lancaster drawings by local artist Ken Hanson, a retired RCAF Veteran. A separate article on Ken’s story will appear in a later release.

SKYE WALLACE BRINGS LIVE MUSIC BACK TO ST. JOSEPH ISLAND

RICHARDS LANDING – Skye Wallace and her band will bring live music back to the Old Town Hall in Richards Landing on Tuesday October 12th. This will be the first in the popular “Just Passing Through” concert series since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers have worked with Algoma Public Health on capacity limits and will be following provincial COVID precautions. Ticket sales will be limited to 50 and attendees will have to show proof of full vacci-nation, in addition to wearing masks throughout the concert.

Wallace will be back on St. Joseph Island almost two years since her last appearance, her third time to since she first played the Island’s 2019 Go North Music Festival. She and her band are on their way out west, where they will meet up with Crown Lands to kick-off a 13 date Cross Canada Tour from October to Decem-ber.

From living on BC’s west coast, to spending time at residencies from Norris Point, Newfoundland to Daw-son City, Yukon, Skye Wallace has been inspired by every corner of the country.

The Revue said, “women are making the best rock music on the planet. The list is lengthy and adding to it is Canadian rocker, Skye Wallace.” Those who have seen her live certainly agreed with that sentiment and won’t want to miss her stop as part of the Just Passing Through Concert Series at Richards Landing’s beauti-ful 120 year old Town Hall.

Richards Landing’s “Just Passing Through” Concert Series has been bringing live music to St. Joseph Island, giving touring musicians a place to play and accommodations when travelling through the Algo-ma-Sault Ste. Marie region. Dozens of bands have been part of the series since 2012, but this will be the first concert since February 2020.

Due to COVID protocols, seating is limited so people are encouraged to purchase tickets for this show in advance. Tickets are available the St. Joseph Town-ship office at 1669 Arthur Street in Richards Landing, or Moose Sweats in downtown Richards Landing. Advance tickets are $15, or (if available) at the door for $20.

Some things to remember when placing a classified:If your item is valued at $1000 or more there is a charge of $10 + hst. Items sold for profit (stuff you are making, growing or have just to sell are also subject to that fee (at our discretion). Any event that is charging a fee for profit or non-profit as well are subject to this fee. Yard/Garage sale ads are $10+ hst. Due to space limitation and fairness to everyone, PLEASE KEEP ALL CLASSIFIED TO A 50 WORD MAXIMUM, otherwise a $10 charge will apply. Please resubmit recurring ads each week. Need someone to care for your loved one?I presently work at a residence in the Sault but given the circumstances, concerned if able to for much longer. So I offer my services as a personal in-home assistant/companion.I’ve worked with the elderly for many years. I’m very good at what I do, bringing life back into these lives. Although I’m not a PSW, I’ve worked out-side of the home as a personal help to those still living on their own. If you have/know someone with loved ones needing care, I’m offering my services! I’d love to be a companion/friend. There’s still many things they can do:go for walks, play board/card games, help with a project or cook, enjoy visits over tea, etc. Perhaps they don’t want to be alone at night. I’m willing to stay overnight as well as anything that helps them feel safe and stay healthy. I’m often told how patient I am. I simply try to let love shine through me to them.
