“We adopted Patti (now Lucy)...and wanted to let you know that she’s doing great! She was a bit timid at first but puppy curiosity won out and she soon be-came very comfortable with all of us as she explored and played in her new home. She has so many new toys to play with, bones to chew on, and a comfy couch to curl up on with her new family. The kids love her and we take her with us on weekend outings. She’s been a fast learner and so sweet! Thanks for letting us make her a part of our family!” - Stephanie G.

“...We kept his name Mr. Beanz. He’s also called ‘Bean Bunny’, ‘Beanie Boo’, or ‘Mr. Freshy Pants’! He’s a joy!...He’s super playful and wants to be our old cat’s best friend...but he’d rather Beanz run away with the circus ;) He’s patient with him and everyone is learning to live together well.” - Danielle O.

Before they became loving

members of new families, they were animals in need of your help.

You believed in their future and for that, they are forever grateful. You made these happy endings

possible!

THANKS TO YOU!

“Israel (now Ahote) is doing really well with us. We can’t help but love him. He’s so sweet. The first cou-ple of weeks with us he was pretty quiet, but now he’s really starting to bond with us. He always greets us at the door with a few meows when we return from shopping or other errands. We’ll give him the best of care.” - Don C.

“...Buddy (now named Colby) is great and has adapted quickly to life with us! He is e xtremely smart and has already learned [commands] ‘si t ’, ‘down’, ‘up’, ‘on your side’, ‘paw’, ‘drop i t’, ‘come’, and is working on ‘rol l over ’. He loves snuggling and re laxing but also has moments of crazy puppy energy... .We are absolute ly in love with our new baby... .Thanks again for sending him our way and for the great work you are doing for our furry f r iends!” - Terry A.

Masks were on and hearts were open! The 340 guests at our

16th Annual Winter Ball Masquer-ade Fundraising Gala celebrated animal rescue and pet adoption in a very big way on February 16, 2019. The event featured silent and live auctions, mystery gift game, dinner, dancing, and tons of fun! By the end of the night, the funds raised to help animals in need totaled $65,600, topping the previous year’s total by 30%! The first Lighthouse Award was given to a shining light in our com-munity, Sharyn Prestejohn. The Seventh Annual Michael A. Fonzo Phenemonal Volunteer Award was given to Jessica Biker, and the first Anchor Award was given to a pillar of support in our commu- nity, Extreme Truck & Auto Repair.

FARMER IS HERE TODAY BECAUSE OF YOU

Farmer’s story began in rural Geor-gia, where he was rescued from a

rough situation. It was soon apparent that he had a severe hernia. Our rescue partners asked us if we would still be able to take him in on the next trans-port. Thanks to the support of friends like you, we were able to say yes. “Farmer deserved a second chance, even with a medical condition,” says Executive Director, Sunniva Buck.Farmer had both an umbilical and

inguinal hernia. The latter was so large that Farmer was at risk for strangula-tion of his intestine, a potentially life-threatinging medical condition.

Director of Shelter Medicine, Dr. Alex Becket, estimates that at least six feet of suture was needed to repair Farmer’s abdomen! It was a complex procedure, but Farmer did well.

Thanks to friends like you, the Veterinary Care Fund is providing vital care for homeless animals in need. We hope you’ll continue to support our mission, ensuring that animals we’ll meet tomorrow, next week, and next month, will have the support they need to thrive.

“Just about six weeks post-surgery, Farmer was adopted,” says Buck. His future is bright -- and that’s thanks to you!

Finding homes for homeless ani-mals is at the heart of our work,

and enriching their lives while they await adoption is a top priority. But what if we could not only bring joy, life experiences, and fun to the shel-ter animals -- but also to members of our Cape Ann community?

From that goal (and thanks to your support) we began to partner with local nursing homes including Gloucester Healthcare and Den-Mar Health and Rehabilitation Center.

“Many of these residents have no family left and our visit is something regular they can look forward to. It’s such a joy to see their reaction when they reach out and connect -- their faces light up,” says Kelly Galante, one of the volunteers who brings puppies (and sometimes kittens) to visit.

The program provides the animals with a change of scenery and lots of attention. The animals bring fond memories back to the residents. As Galante explains, “I love to hear them recount stories about animals they’ve loved throughout their life. I even have strict orders from several residents to wake them if they are sleeping when I come by for the visit!”

Thanks to your support, these types of community partnerships continue to thrive, helping not only the ani-mals, but also members of our community who greatly benefit from a soft tail wag or purr from a rescued animal.

Thank you for helping to create

moments like this!
