The stories are a composite of Austin's life, people he has known, questions he has asked himself, family history, myth and lore of VT. Austin grew up in Chelsea, VT and incorpo- rated some history from the family farm and also included his fa- ther's love of maple sugaring into these magical stories. He feels that the books can be read on many levels from young readers to adults . He is sure he can "hook" you from page 1 and hopes you will enjoy the adventures of a young boy growing up in Ver- mont. Lydia Cannon was the youngest of seven children. Memories of stories passed on in family gatherings during her childhood inspired Lydia to write her first book, The Prayer Garden, a romantic sus- pense about love and forgiveness. A New Jersey native, Lydia re- located to Vermont in 1966 and currently lives in Tinmouth. Before retiring, Lydia worked more than twenty-five years in Human Re- sources for Rutland Regional Medical Center and Union Carbide Plastics Company in New Jersey. William J. Powers, Jr. (Bill) was raised in Rutland and Lake Dun- more, Vermont and currently lives in Rutland. He received a B.A. from St. Michael’s College in 1967 and a M.A. from Ball State University in 1976. Bill spent 40 years associated with the Air Force, 21 years on active duty and 19 as a contractor at Hanscom Air Force Base, Massa- chusetts. He is the author of Leicester, Vermont’s Silver Lake: Beyond the Myths, published in 2000 and Tales From Gouger Hill, published in the Rutland Historical Society Quarterly in 2014. Bill is the current (2015) president of the Pittsford, Vermont Historical Society and a member of the Rutland Historical Society’s Research Committee. He a frequent presenter of his historical projects pertaining to Addison, Rut- land, and Windsor Counties. Celeste Perrino-Walker is an award-winning, internationally published Christian author and editor. She is a past editor of Listen Magazine, a drug and alcohol prevention magazine for teens, and the line editor for Insight Magazine, an inspirational magazine for teens. She writes a regu- lar column, Spice of Life, for Vibrant Life and was a contributing editor for ParentTalk. She currently has 19 published books. Melissa Forgey spent her early years in Columbus, Ohio. She at-tended college in Vermont, and after graduating decided to stay. She has a BA in fine arts and uncompleted nurses training due to her visual impairment. She has worked/advocated for the elderly for the past 32 years. She worked as a care provider in facilities, and owned/ operated a home health care business for the past 15 years. She has a deep concern for elderly and vulnerable people. Her book True Empathy addresses these concerns by telling her story in an intimate and even spiritual way.

Michelle Field is a mother and has been a hairstylist for 20 years and owns her own salon. Meeting amazing children through this career and seeing their beautiful minds and souls had led her to another passion….writing this book for all young children to lift their spirits.

Martha Molnar ‘s story begins with her childhood in communist Ro-

Jewish Center and the founder of Castleton's "Science Pub" series. "In

Vermont, much of the time, you can't tell a book by its cover," Molnar

writes. "Its people don't fit into covers, no matter how roomy, oddly

shaped, elastic."

Cathy Miglorie began writing professionally in 2002. She is the au-thor of a book, Vermont's Marble Industry, which chronicles the vi-brant history of the marble industry and its impact on cities across the nation. Previously, she wrote a weekly history column for Vermont's second largest daily newspaper, The Rutland Herald and was a fre-quent contributor to Killington, VT.'s The Mountain Times. Ms. Miglorie is a resident of Proctor. She holds a certification in technical writing from the University of Vermont, and has a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Vermont.

Ann Duncan lives in Wells, Vermont, with her husband on prop-erty that includes an outdoor sanctuary for prayer and healing. A former public relations expert and co-publisher of a weekly news-paper, she’s an experienced researcher and writer. She has penned a couple of adult thrillers involving treasure hunts and three books in a series of YA historical adventures hallmarking a magical metal detector that propels its user back through time.

Gary K. Meffe was born and raised in Rahway, NJ, where he experi-enced a solid and simple blue-collar upbringing. He received Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Zoology from Rutgers University and then mi-grated west for a Ph.D. He was a Research Professor in the fields of evolutionary ecology and conservation biology at the University of Georgia and the University of Florida. He has over 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications, is co-author of two college textbooks, and for 12 years was Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Conser-vation Biology. He is now retired in Brandon, VT, slowly but surely be-coming an old guy, and trying to figure out how and when that hap-pened.

Daniel Colton is 23 years old, born and raised in the upper Mid-west. He is currently a newspaper reporter and farmer in Rutland County.

Chuck Laramie was born in Fair Haven. He was one of eleven chil-dren. In the navy he spent four years aboard ship plying the waters of the Pacific and the South China Seas. He earned his Communica-tions/Journalism degree at Castleton State College . Writing for local newspapers, he returned to Castleton where he earned a Masters in Education. He taught English and history for sixteen years in a Resi-dential Program for Juvenile Sex Offenders. Mr. Laramie is an avid runner, hiker and a certified Scuba Diver and has enjoyed the thrill of sky-diving. Mr. Laramie is working hard on his next novel, The Hunted, and hopes to finish it by the end of the summer.

Karen D. Lorentz is a former English teacher turned freelance writer and author. She has written numerous articles and columns for magazines, newspapers, newsletters, business journals, and websites with stories including legal, business, ski and travel. She has written seven books, including biographies of two 20th century Vermont women and their families and several ski books amonst her other achievements. In 2006, the International Skiing History Asso-ciation (ISHA) honored Lorentz with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Ski Journalism. She is the only woman to receive this prestigious award. She has received many other awards, too numerous to list

Gary Lindorff is a poet and writer living in Middletown Springs, VT with his wife and two cats, Tulsi and Ayla. He is the author of The Blue Man, poems for the late Nuclear Age and New Wasichu, Cross-ing. Lindorff’s poetry is published on a weekly basis on the internet journal Thiscan’tbehappening. net. He is a practicing Transforma-tional Counselor with a strong Jungian background and a shamanic practitioner.

Daniel Gilman I have lived in Rutland my entire lifetime. I worked 21 years for the State of VT and was placed on medical retirement. I began writing my memoir titled “The Blue Hole” for people to read the truths in my life... My memoir begins during the summer of 1972 when I broke my neck diving into a swimming pool. This injury left me completely paralyzed from my armpits, down. I have faced several other traumas – including sex abuses and physical abuses. I currently have an art studio and gallery located in Brandon VT, in the “Compass Music and Arts Center”. Art has changed my outlook on life.

Tiffany Lee Gervais was born on January 17, 1980 in Biloxi, MS. She was an only child, which is a theme for one of Tiffany’s chil-dren’s books, There’s a Mouse in the House! in which two little girls are only children. Tiffany is also physically challenged, which her first children’s book, I’m Different…and I’m Happy! gives assurance that being different – and we all are – is exciting! Her other chil-dren’s books include, This is Me!, Knowing the Father and the Son, and an adult spiritual book, Lessons of Life From a Higher Power. She is a resident of Rutland, VT.

Edie Jordan is a resident of southern Vermont for the past six decades, has recently released her first book, a self-published, rhyming, illustrated children’s book. She has quietly been writing poetry in her renovated one-room schoolhouse for several years, is a member of the Poetry Society of Vermont and one of the winning writers in a poetry contest recently sponsored by the society. She is a former advertising sales professional who has worked for such publications as the Manchester Journal, Travelhost and Stratton Magazine. Besides writing poetry, her interests include gardening and photography. David Mook began writing poetry after the sudden death of his 8

year-old daughter Sarah, who began writing poems while in kinder-garten. Inspired by Sarah’s poems, David earned an MFA in Writing from Vermont College. His first book of poems, EACH LEAF, includes those written by Sarah, as well as an essay, "Fishing," recognized as a Notable Essay in The Best American Essays, 2000. His poems have appeared in numerous publications including Bereavement Magazine, Birchsong - Poetry Centered in Vermont, Dogwood, Ellipsis, Friends Journal, Passager, Paterson Literary Review, and several anthologies. David teaches writing at Castleton State College, and sponsors the Sarah Mook Poetry Contest open to students in grades K-12.

Bill Walters (aka Bil.) After retiring, he turned his attention to writing Christmas Letters that were in retaliation to the “over-the-top” chronicles of the lives of friends and acquaintances, and of course their beautiful children, which he would receive each year. Following some success with his letters, he found himself goaded into writing poetry . Over the years, other whacky and not so whacky ideas popped into his head, which are also included in this book. Bil lives with his wife Christine Tattersall in Grafton Vermont, along with their two kids, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

Bob Stannard is an eighth generation Vermonter who has been a Vermont columnist for almost ten years with the Bennington Banner & VT Digger. He has written two, Vermont humor books. In addi-tion to writing he is also a Blues singer and harmonica player. He has produced and released three CDs. He is a former member of the Vermont House of Representatives and a retired lobbyist and commercial real estate broker. He lives in Manchester with his wife, Alison, of 42 years. They have two children and four grandchildren; the latter of which keep him pretty busy.

Pamela Hayes Rehlen lives in Castleton with her husband John. She attended Castleton State College, graduated from Middlebury College and Boston University Law School. Her stories and articles have been published in The Berkshire Review, Salamander, Middle-bury College’s Frontiers, Vermont Life and The Burlington Free Press. She’s written Sunday Magazine cover feature stories for The Rutland Herald, a weekly column on Castleton life for the Rutland Herald Ex-press, and presently writes a monthly column for The Vermont Sam-pler. She’s published two books. Her interest is always connection to place, and she feels fortunate to be the sixth generation of her fam-ily to live in Vermont.
