Open End Belting For drives not easily accessible to install endless V·belts, or for emergency use. Required length is cut off and its ends joined by a metal fastener. Available in Prime Mover cross-section for lower operating speeds.

Variable Speed For drives where variable speed control drives and mechanisms are employed. Belts' transverse rigidity gives it excellent gripping action without crosswise distortion.

KevlarCord We recommend our PowerPlus'M line, or kevlar reinforced A and Bsections which are stock Items, since steel cable Prime Mover belts are no longer available. Kevlar reinforced C and D sections are special order items. PowerPlus A's and B's, along with kevlar C's and D's, offer higher heat resistance than steel cable and minimal stretch.

V-Link An open-end belt that doesn't require metal fasteners, tor use where obstructions prevent use of endless belts. Can be quickly and easily installed without dismantling a drive. Available in Prime Mover cross-sections.

Dual Timing Timing belts with driving teeth on both sides make it possible to change the direction of one or more synchronized pulleys with only one belt, The inside and outside teeth are identical as to size and pitch.

Double V Used where a series of shafts rotating in opposite directions must be driven from a single source of power. Either side of the belt can be used as a driving surface.

Metriflex® Made to strict European tolerances and specifications to assure a highlyaccurate fit for metric drives. Sizes XPZ, XPA, XPB, SPC,

Grip-Tite HT Curvilinear Timing Grip·Tite HT belts bring the advan· tages of synchronous rubber belts to applications previously served by roller chain and gear drives. These belts do not require lubrication and, therefore, maintenance costs are minimized, and contamination from oil drip is eliminated.

Novex This lightweight, versatile poly· urethane belt has a unique design and side angle construction that allows for small sheave diameters, greater speed ratios and shorter centers.

Grip-Tite and Mini-Pitch Timing Functions like a timing chain or gear. Precision-molded teeth engage the mating axial grooves on pulleys, entering and leaving the grooves in a smooth. rolling manner with negligible friction. Highly versatile in application, load and speed range. Also available in Mini-Pitch.

Prime Mover Cogged A premium construction belt for tough applications. Cogged belts offer great flexibility and increased capacity of a drive system.

Maxipower'M Cogged This belt delivers maximum efficiency on small sheaves. Its raw edge cogged narrow wedge construction is excellent for use with high speed motors.

Maxipower'M Banded Premium Maxlpower V·belts are banded together to form a unitized belt set. Individual V's are spaced to permit it to operate in regular multiple groove 3V, 5V, 8V sheaves. This construction prevents belt whip and turnover under pulsating and shock loads. PowerPlus Maxiband'" V-Belts with kevlar reinforced cord are also available.

FHP Glasstex® ORS and PowerPlus'M For light duty service FHP offers cool, quiet operation and long service life. Because of its glass cord construction, it will not shrink or stretch. It's oil resistant and static conducting~ all at a standard price. For heavy-duty servo ice, PowerPlus belts with aramid cord are available.

Multi Ribbed More power per inch of drive width because on drives where multiple V-belts are required, you eliminate the free space between belts. Provides about three times the traction area of a flat belt of equal width, This belt is thinner, giving it better flexibility, reducing internal heating.

Maxipower'M Cogged Banded Raw edge Maxipower C09gedBanded belts deliver maximum efficiency on small sheaves. Ideal for high speed motors where banded construction prevents belt whip and turnover.

Prime Mover Banded and Cogged Banded Premium Prime Mover V-belts are banded together to form a unitized belt set. Individual V's are spaced to permit it to operate in regular multiple belt sheaves. This construction prevents belt whip and turnover under pulsating and shock loads. Cogged banded also available.

Maxipower'M A premium construction wedgetype, multiple drive belt that provides equal power transmission capacity in less space than ordinary multiple type belts. And it's oil-resistant and static conducting' at the same price. Operates at speeds up to 6500 FPM. Sizes 3V, 5V and 8V sections.

Prime Mover Premium rated heavy industrial V-belt. Oil-resistant and static' conducting. This one versatile V-belt-sized in A, B, C, D, Esections-can power virtually every drive in your plant.

PRIME MOVER COGGED BELTS

Sure-Set® Belts marked Sure-Set are produced to Sure-Set tolerances Sure-Set indicates that all belts of a given size and style are matched Contact Elgin for special matching requirements.

Packaging All AX-section, BX-section (up to 180 inches) and CX-section belts (up to 158 inches) are pre-packed in boxes of 12 each with belt size and quantity printed on the box. BX-section (over 180 inches) and CX-section (over 158 inches) belts are packaged individually.

Thermoid Prime Mover Cogged belts have a precision cogged profile base which is designed for uniform stress distribution and superior heat dissipation.

Their construction permits greater flexibility and a higher horsepower capacity for exceptional performance on small diameter sheaves using A, Band C section drives.

The aggressive, extra duty construction is specially designed to fit the sheave grooves exactly, which allows maximum wedging action.

The belts are built with tough polyester tensile members to resist fatigue and shock loads. The cord and neoprene rubber are bonded to prevent separation, and reinforcement layers on both sides of the tensile member improve cord stability. All belts are oil & heat resistant and static conducting:

MAXIPOWERTM BELTS

Thermoid has gone beyond the ordinary to produce a remarkable wedge-type, multiple drive belt-Maxipower.

The deep-V design of the Maxipower belt enables a smaller belt to carry a bigger load. It can operate at higher speeds up to 6,500 feet-per-minute.

Belt width and groove spacing are narrower and that reduces sheave face width 30% to 50%. Decreased sheave width means less shaft overhang, which places a lighter load on bearings and increases bearing life.

As belt drive systems are designed or redesigned, consider Maxipower belts. Belts that will do the job more economically and use less space.

Three cross-sections of Maxipower belts handle jobs usually requiring five sizes of classical V-belts. Maxipower belts are oil and heat resistant and static conducting:

Belt Sizes and Dimensions

Unicord® 5V and 8V belts over 112 Inches are branded Unlcord. They are produced to tighter Sure·Set tolerances, ensuring excellent matchability. The center distance variations have been reduced on Unlcord belts, producing smoother running belts

Sure-Set® Belts marked Sure·Set are produced to Sure·Set tolerances This means that all belts of a given size and style are matched. Contact Elgin for special matching requirements.

Packaging All 3V section, and 5V section belts (up to 170 inches) are pre· packed in boxes of 12 each With belt size and quantity printed on the box. All 5V section (over 170 inches) and 8V section belts are packaged Individually.

Kevlar Cord Belts 3V, 5V and 8V sedon belts are also available as special orders for difficult drives requiring extra strength. Contact Elgin for minimums Each order must state quantities per set for matching requirements.

MAXIPOWERTM COGGED BELTS Tensile members are engineered to resist fatigue and shock

loads. Cord and rubber are specially bonded to prevent separation. And reinforcement layers on both sides of the tensile member help improve cord stability.

Maxipower Cogged belts are constructed with neoprenefor excellent resistance to heat, oil, ozone, sunlight, weather and aging. All belts are static conducting:

Maxipower Cogged belts are ideal for situations where weight or sheave size is restricted. Where increased horsepower is required, Maxipower Cogged belts-used with smaller sheaves-provide higher horsepower in a given space when compared to Prime Mover.

With Maxipower Cogged belts, you can use sheaves as small as 2.2" in diameter-and achieve speed ratios up to 13.65. This lets you utilize high speed motors-which, according to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, can mean a 10% increase in energy efficiency.

The unique notched construction distributes bending stress uniformly-and also provides superior heat dissipation.

In most installations, smaller diameter sheaves can be used, permitting shorter center distances.

Maxipower Cogged belts are raw edge construction and are cut to the precise dimensions to fit the sheave groove. As a result, you get maximum wedging action and reduced chance of slippage.

PRIME MOVER BANDED BELTS

The Prime Mover Banded belt is a unitized set of premium construction belts.

A vulcanized band is utilized to form a belt set in which the individual V's are spaced to permit operation in MPTA standard groove belt sheaves.

This design prevents belt whip and turnover under pulsating and shock loads.

Belt sizes up to 120" I.C. are single cord construction which offers flexibility for operating over small diameter pulleys and short distances between pulleys at higher speeds. Belt sizes over 120" I.C. are multicord construction, suited for operation at longer distances.

They are available in B, C, and 0 cross-sections that are oil and heat resistant and static conducting:

POWERPLUSTM MAXIBAND™ BELTS

PowerPlus Maxiband belts are designed for high horsepower, high tension and severe shock load applications such as dredge pumps, hammermil/s, piledrivers, and steel billet grinders. This belt delivers as much as 50% more horsepower than ordinary belt setups.

Super tough kevlar cords with maximum internal adhesion have far more heat resistance and far less stretch than other cords. The cover is rugged, woven 2-ply, specially processed for maximum adhesion, and to protect the carcass from abrasion, heat, oil, and to prevent static buildup. A premium chloroprene rubber cushion section resists compression, heat, oil and fatigue. This keeps the belt flexing smoothly and easily as it passes over the sheaves. An oil resistant insulation section transfers the belt load to the kevlar cords. **For explanation ot static conductiVity and conditions. reter 10 Installation

GRIP-TITE HT CURVILINEAR TIMING BELTS Grip-Tite HT Curvilinear timing belts bring the advantages of synchronous rubber belts to applications previously served by roller chain and gear drives. The curvilinear profile of the tooth produces improved tooth jump resistance, power capability, and shear stress resistance.

Unlike chain and gear drives, Grip-Tite Curvilinear timing belts do not require lubrication, and therefore, maintenance costs are minimized and contamination from oil drip is eliminated.

This revolutionary belt offers extremely wide speed ranges and load capacities.

The many benefits provided by Grip-Tite Curvilinear timing belts make them suitable for a multitude of applications.

Non-standard lengths in SM, 8M and 14M curvilinear timing belts are available as well as dual-sided belts. Non-stock widths can be cut from sleeves.

Designed originally for operations involving timing and synchronization, timing belts have proved capable of transmitting power and performing other operational functions.

Grip-Tite timing belts function like timing chains or gears with great success on machines with such extremes in service requirements as electric typewriters, rugged pug mills, gasoline pumps, mud pumps, bakery machinery, lake dredges-BUT all positive and accurate in all their timing.

Loading capacities of timing belt drives range from fractional horsepower to over 600 horsepower. Their torque loads range from thousands of foot-pounds to loads in inch-ounces. They have a high horsepower-to-weight ratio.

The precision-molded teeth of Grip-Tite timing belts function like a timing chain or gears. Positive engagement with the mating axial grooves on the pulleys occurs in a smooth, rolling manner providing negligible friction.

There is no take-up or slippage. No metal-to-metal contact is present so no lubrication or oil-retaining devices are required. Reduced bearing loads are achieved because there is less friction and reduced tension requirements with Grip-Tite timing belts. There is Virtually no backlash. These efficient timing belts often outperform precision gear drives.

These belts are versatile in application. Space requirements can be greatly reduced with Grip-Tite timing belts, which permit use of small pulleys, short centers, narrow belts and high capacity.

Timing belts are made in six stock pitches. On the belt, pitch is the distance between tooth centers and is measured on the pitch line of the belt On the pulley, pitch is the distance between groove centers and is measured on the pulley's pitch Circle

The pitch line of a timing belt is located Within the cable tension member. The pitch circle of a timing belt pulley coincides with the pitch line of the belt mating with it. The pulley's pitch diameter is always greater than its face diameter.

To facilitate selection, ordering and Identification of timing belts, the designations have been standardized Each stock pitch is Identified by Its code letter-such as H or XH. This letter represents not only a particular pitch, but also the belts construction for that particular pitch, the number and diameter of the cable tension member, the thickness and type of the facing material, the rubber compounds used.

For example assuming the driver pulley and belt are capable of trans· mitting 1 horsepower; .55 hp can be transmitted from the inside teeth to pulley (A) and .45 hp can be transmitted by the outside teeth to pulley (8) for a total of 1 hp, the rated capacity of the driver pulley. Power takeoff on the backside is limited to 50% of the total catalog rating. Total belt rating is the same as for slngle, slded belts.

DOUBLE V-BELTS Double V-belts are essentially Prime Mover Belts. Either side of the belt can be used as a driving surface. They are used on equipment where a number of shafts have to be driven in opposite directions, at the same time, by a single belt. Our Double V-belts are found on cotton gins, rock crushers, grain combines, and other machinery.

The sections are AA, BB and CC (the counterparts of Prime Mover A, Band C sections). The effective pitch circumference (P.C.) of a Double V-belt is determined in exactly the same manner as the effective outside circum· ference (D.C.) of a Prime Mover belt. Thus, the effective P.C. of a BB-97 is equal to the effective D.C. of a B-97.

NOVEXBELTS Novex belts are specially designed to run over small sheave diameters at high speed ratios. Novex belts allow use of narrow sheaves, small sheave diameters and short centers for compact drives. The special ribbed top on Novex belts provides traverse rigidity without increasing bending stresses. This keeps Novex belts running cool which means added life. Novex belt compounds have a high degree of friction which allows the use of 60° belt angle. This provides for better support of the tension member.

NOTE All Novex belt size listings are in millimeters; ie, 5m = 5mm top width; 280m = 280mm belt length. Top width and effective length (E.L.) are listed in inches for size cross reference only.

VARIABLE SPEED BELTS

For use on variable speed control drives, Thermoid Variable Speed V-belts operate at low noise levels and are vibrationfree. Available in cut edge, molded cog constructions that are oil and heat resistant. They are ideal for machine tools and other equipment where changes in speed is a requirement.

Number System The numbering system for Variable Speed V-belts is based upon the pulley groove dimensions and the pitch length of the belt. For Example 1430V315.

Top width of groove in Groove Variable Belt pitch length in closed position in angle speed 1/10-inch increments,

1/16-inch increments, Example Example 31.5:' Example 14/16~' 30°

Variable Drive Systems To change the speed of a belt-driven machine, split pulleys permit one flange of a pulley to be moved in or out, varying the pitch. This causes the variable speed V-belt to ride higher or deeper in the groove, thereby changing its speed ratio.

Three basic variable speed pulley systems, are employed which, together with our Variable Speed V-belts, form efficient and economical variable speed drives.

POWERPLUS™ BELTS PowerPlus replacement belts are specifically designed and produced to withstand the rigors of tough, frequent usage in lawn and garden equipment, home workshop equipment, hobby center power tools, as well as in severe industrial drives.

PowerPlus belts, offered in 3H, 4H and 5H cross-sections, with kevlar cord, transmit a minimum of 15% more horsepower than standard belts. They withstand severe shock load and provide generally longer life than standard duty belts. They are oil and heat resistant.

To cross a Prime Mover belt over to a PowerPlus belt, change the "A" to "4H" or "B" to "5H." For an A, add two then put a zero at the end. For a B, add three then put a zero at the end.

For example, A60 becomes 4H620 and B60 becomes 5H630.

KEVLAR CORD BELTS

Kevlar Cord V-belts are used where a customer has limited take-up on his drive and can't take advantage of our Prime Mover and Maxipower V-Belts. It is available in the same cross sections as our Prime Mover.

Size Range Cross-sections A/4H, B/5H, C, D. Size range A31/4H330 to D240K For C and 0 sections, numerals in belt size signify inside circumference (I.C) up to 210," over 210" numerals signify pitch length. For A/4H and B/5H sections, numerals signify outside circumference (O.C) in tenths of Inches.

How To Order For kevlar C and 0 sections, call Elgin Customer Service for minimums.

For kevlar A and B sections, cross them over to our stock PowerPlus belts described on page 21 and below

WARNING Because the high strength of Kevlar Cord Belts provide exceptionally high torque capacities and horsepower ratings which may exceed standard sheave capabilities, the sheaves selected must be checked for adequacy. Sheaves, bushings or other drive components could be destroyed in overload with potential personal harm and/or equipment damage. Consult the sheave manufacturer.

PowerPlus belts, offered in 3H, 4H and 5H cross-sections, with kevlar cord, transmit a minimum of 15% more horsepower than standard belts. They withstand severe shock load and provide generally longer life than standard duty belts. They are oil and heat resistant.

To cross a Prime Mover belt over to a PowerPlus belt, change the "A" to "4H" or "B" to "5H" For an A, add two then put a zero at the end For a B, add three then put a zero at the end .

For example, A60 becomes 4H620 and B60 becomes 5H630

OPEN END BELTING V-LINK BELTING

Open End belting is similar to Prime Mover V-belts in cross-sectional shape, but it has a carcass of heavy, crosswoven duck in which the metal fastener can be anchored firmly. It is used on drives not easily a~ce~sible!or in~tallation of endless V-belts. Open End belting IS avaIlable In A, B, and C cross-sections.

V-belts that can be cut to any length by the user are ideal for emergency installation when a required size of endless belt is not readily available.

When a belt is needed, the required length is cut off and its ends joined with a metal fastener.

Size Range 165-foOI reels

V-link belting can be quickly and easily installed on most V-belt drives. It is used when obstructions prevent easy installation of endless belts. It should be kept in stock for emergency use. Simply measure off the required length and install in minutes.

The links produce a perfect non-slip wedging action in the pulley grooves. It is ideal for fixed center drives, and eliminates the need for tensioning devices that can create excessive strain on belts and cause premature failure. V·links are also the answer for operations that need a non·standard size for endless V-belt.

V-links require no special tools for installation, but power transmission distributors can supply an installation tool that is quite helpful, especially on larger sections of V-link belting.

The belting is prestretched to keep down adjustments,

helping to reduce maintenance costs. This belting operates vibration-free at top rated speeds and will run in either direction without jamming.

How to Measure Measure from the first end rivet to the rivet closest to the desired length. When detached, this becomes the first empty rivet hole, as shown in the sketch

ACCU·LINK BELTING Accu-Link belts are the ideal temporary replacement or permanent substitute for conventional rubber V-belts, Accu-Link V-belts provide superior strength, durability and quick, easy assembly to keep equipment up and running ~ at the same horsepower ratings as rubber belts. Constructed of urethane elastomer, reinforced with a rugged, woven polyester reinforced with a rugged, woven polyester fabric, Accu-Link belts are manufactured by a revolutionary new process which creates smooth, precise side profiles on each link. This smooth profile creates less vibration and requires lower drive tensions for increased belt life.

Designed to fit any drive application. Accu-Link V-belts are available in the most popular sizes-A, Band C sections in both 25' and 100' lengths.

Durable urethane coating

Rugged,

What's more, Accu-Link V-belts maintain precise tension, so they deliver maximum power on multiple-belt drives.

The urethane construction offers superior resistance to most common industrial solvents and chemicals, oil, water and temperature extremes, from -40°F to 240°F The belts actually dissipate heat so they run cooler than conventional belts. Suited to harsh environments, Accu-Link V-belts are ideal for the metal processing, machine tool, agriculture, packaging, coal and aggregate, pulp and paper, lumber, marine, air moving, petrochemical, conveying and food industries

Patent Pending

With Accu-Link, installation and assembly is as easy as a snap and a twist. No special tools are required to couple or uncouple each belt. They can be made to accommodate any length, which makes them ideal for emergency repairs and replacements. Once assembled, Accu-Link belts install in a fraction of the time needed for endless rubber belts, and don't require removal of outboard bearings or moving motors.

Accu-Link V-belts are manufactured in standard cross sections or to meet precise customer specifications. Standard cross sections include A %", B %" and C 7/a". In addition to 25 ft. and 100 ft. cartons, the belts are available in 5 ft. and 6 ft. lengths for minimum inventory and convenient storage.

MULTI RIBBED BELTS

Compare the uninterrupted cord strength member of the Multi Ribbed belt

Thermoid has combined the best properties of flat belts and V-belt drives to produce the remarkable Multi Ribbed belta single endless rubber belt with a series of parallel V-ribs lengthwise around the inside circumference.

No spacing is needed between sheave grooves, so drives can be narrower and smaller. There is less load on bearings. Back side idlers work more efficiently on a Multi Ribbed belt's wide surface.
