President’s Pen

Our last regular meeting of the 2016-17 year will be held at the ESB on the evening of Thursday May 4th. For our meal we will once again try to have those awesome crab cakes the ESB is known to serve. At our May 4th meeting we will also be awarding prizes to the students from Harford Technical High School and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute who performed the best during the student challenge held on April 1st. Many thanks to Rob Broczowski of Mueller Associates and Sam Philipp of JMT who did another fantastic job of putting on this event. The students indicated that this was the best challenge ever. Thanks also to BKM for hosting this event. Our theme for our May meeting is Research Promotion. Bring your checkbook! Or better yet, make a donation online. Membership Promotion and Research Promotion are huge in our society and encouraging Membership and making donations to Research are two of the best ways that you can help our chapter and our professional society. At our last meeting we had a highly informative Tech Session presented by Ron Heymann of ABB on the “Application of VFDs”. Our Main Meeting topic was presented by John Fischer of SEMCO on “Applying Total Energy Recovery in Lab Environments”. Many thanks again to Advanced Thermal Solutions for sponsoring our Networking Hour at our April meeting. Our May 4th Chapter Meeting will feature a Main Meeting on “Natatorium Design and Dehumidification”. Our Tech Session is on “The Fundamentals of Psychrometrics”. Many thanks to all of the professionals at HAVTECH for sponsoring our Networking Hour this month. The ballot for the Baltimore Chapter of ASHRAE Board of Governors for the 2017-2018 year is included in this Thermogram. The deadline for voting has been extended due to the underwhelming response received thus far. Please take a moment and send me your completed ballot. On Friday June 2nd we will hold our 60th Annual Golf Outing and Banquet! This year, as in recent years, the golf event will be held at Turf Valley Country Club. I hope to see you on the links!!
