RadEye™ Family History
•First model introduced in 2002; gamma dose
rate and personnel dose (Rad Eye G); post 9/11
•Over past 13 years, have added 10+ different
models and 20+ different variants
•Core design remains same for all
models/variants (PCB, case, display, etc.)
•Through 2015: >75,000 units world-wide in
many different markets
•Simple & Rugged enough for NYPD/NYFD
means NPP HP’s should have no prob’s

Current US NPP’s using the Rad Eyes ….in some form
•TVA (3 sites): Rad Eye B20 ER: Dual
Survey + Dose Rate Instrument
•Surry/North Anna: Rad Eye G, Rad
Eye GX, and PRD: Gamma Dose
rates/uR Meter
•Turkey Point: Rad Eye PX + Rem Ball;
neutron Dose rates
•VC Summer; Rad Eye G’s for D.R.
Surveys
•Several others ……..
Duke, TVA, North Anna, VC Summer
conducting Neutron Rad Eye Testing
Exelon (LaSalle) conducted
evaluation in 2015 …generally positive!

TVA Feedback ‘User Feedback Summary’
• Some of the advantages we have seen:
• 1. One instrument will perform the job of three instruments
(DR, CR, and micro-rem).
• 2. Savings in calibration and source response check costs
• 3. Since we issue each individual their own RadEye, less
damage and breakage. The technicians are responsible for
performing and documenting their own source checks
• 4. Less safety risk, as the instruments are easier carry when
climbing ladders and moving around the site.
• 5. They can be used in Noble Gas areas without worrying
about the detector filling up with noble gas.
• There are some minor challenges: FME controls w/ filters, a
filter has been lost, & magnets out of a couple units

RadEye G & G-10 Dose Rate Meters
• General purpose gamma survey meter; RP
Supervision to have in pocket for field dose
rate verifications!
• Range up to 10 R/h
• Criticality and Area Monitor Applications
10 Proprietary & Confidential
Simple, EXEMPT, easy to use Lutetium (Lu2O3) source check
• 3.7E10 year half-life means:
no need for error-prone half-life corrections
• No need for reoccurring purchase of the
(decayed) check sources
• The adapters provide a highly reproducible
and uniform activity content: 50 Bq/g (1.3 nCi/g)
• All test adapters of the same type have the same
activity!
• Beta-type adapters provide identical surface
emission rates
γ Energy 8 keV, 54 keV, 55 keV, 63 keV, 88 keV, 202 keV, 307 keV, 401 keV
Β Energy 188 keV, 589 keV
These energies are ideally suited to simulate a mixture of Am-241, Pu-239, U-235 and heavily
shielded industrial sources (Cs-137, Ir-192, Co-60):
